- rockforever, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23The thing I like about google is that all i NEED to do is enter a few keywords and hit enter.
- fishbert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think putting a plus sign before each word would fix that.
- humpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8That aren't very nice sir.
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Tracking searches, or look at statistics to make the searchengine even more effective?
Besides, I thought Google was kinda forced into meeting some censoring in china, or otherwise eliminate their usage there..? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Google Search string for Ebooks

-inurl:htm -inurl:html -inurl:php -inurl:asp -inurl:doc -inurl:pdf -inurl:shtml -inurl:txt (“index of”|"last modified"|"parent of") mp3 -ringtone -lyric -playlist “Beetles" - freff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'd like to search for a better layout for that article. We're not all stuck in the days of dialup and as far as I know, the tubes are not yet full, so they can feel free to put more 10 lines of text and one google tip up at a time per page.
- ionut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4here it is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatles - miaow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2google should make it easier for people to find how to use search better. the link should be on the search page itself.
- wrnj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow, thats some of the most useless article ive ever seen here...
- Spanktacular, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Did you really just write "I aren't?" Holy *****, I think that's one of the dumbest ***** things I've ever seen...
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5One thing that annoys me is that sometimes google assumes that I aren't really looking for some of the words in my search query, when actually I am trying to perform a more precise search.. It might display sites that includes only 2 of my words before sites that display all 3.
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Those ten tips are supposed to be more efficient than just typing in what you were looking for and hitting enter? Sheesh, tip number one alone made my head hurt.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, smarter ways of searching hey
how about
ebooks:
ebook linux
or
filetype:pdf linux (or whatever file type you are after - Rojer64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is just advertisement. Just ignore it. At the point you reach "the more the better" you know it's just someone writing about a subject he hardly knows.
- vidal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Search Hacker can be used to find variety of file formats like wav, mp3, doc, cvs, wma, mpg, xls, zip, mid, mpeg, pdf, rar, avi, mov, txt and torrents. I tried Search Hacker and it works, but some results return errors. Can’t blame Search Hacker for that, just skip and try another result. http://www.searchhacker.com
Search Hacker has a sister site called Cam Hacker which can be used for searching unprotected live webcams. Search Hacker deservers to be in your bookmarks, however, if you are a hard working sucker, then you can try searching the hard way.
http://www.camhacker.com - Li0nel1234, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How does anyone who's used Google on somewhat of a regular basis not know most of these tips? They're all common sense and I guess I could tell my dad this and maybe he'd be a better google'r but I think this article was useless.
- nomad9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stupidly obvious yes.
- Ensorceled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The article is out of date in some respects -- Google is using common words now -- for instance contrast the results for "ode" with "ode to a".
He also missed the most important tip about key words -- many keywords are great but they should be orthogonal concepts that match your topic rather than synonyms. - theholycow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The first "tip" is what people already do. They type in what they're looking for.
Just don't do what my mother does. She types in "web site for foobar" instead of just "foobar". I've explained to her that a web search engine only returns web sites. She also calls 411 and asks for the "phone number for foobar"...
Anyway, if you want to try some different search terms because the ones you're looking for aren't working, try to think of what's likely to be on the page with your desired results. For example, if you want to find instructions on how to cover a keyboard in glitter as a lame christmas present for your niece but "glitter keyboard" returns nothing, maybe "glitter mouse" will do the job...or maybe "barbie computer". - dgh1973, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I don't live in china and everyone and their brother probably tracks my info and mouse clicks on-line these days. It's safe to assume that you have no privacy on the web no matter who you use service-wise. If you want privacy then you need to use things like TOR and pgp, that's the bottom line.
Save the tinfoil hat crap for someone who cares tink. - trib4lmaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the synonym search (~word). That one's new to me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1good info for noobs. digg+++
- adikt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Domestiques
Don't type right away. Wait 30 seconds after the moronic thoughts enter your brain before using the keyboard. - Pentadact, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is the stupidest thing I've read in over four-hundred years. "Click the Search button to perform the search."
- strangehold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This website would be useful to me if I was brand-spanking new to the interweb. But seeing how Digg users are fairly used to Google and how to search, I'm going to bury it.
Besides, how do you get to be a "Google expert" anyways? - teamster02, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Isn't a search supposed to be EASY ??? Why should I have to read through 10 PAGES to learn how to be more effective. (like I woild remember all of that anyway). The search engine should be doing all the work, not me.
- javip, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2lol.. i understand why u posted this twice despite being dugg down..
but in case you're wondering, the reason is that the cheat sheet has nothing to do with this topic - smellyhamper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This had to have been a "gamed" digg. These tips are retard level.
- Tanath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Or adding -keyword for the words you don't want.
- lisuebie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I am constantly using google, and I am very lazy about it. I found several tips of use- the tilde for synonyms, a nice list of search operators to stick in my google notebook for reference, the easy specific fact search (man, I could have used that about a thousand times up to now), and the specialized search list (again for my notebook).
So I found the article useful. - smithco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1The Beetles! I love those guys. Here's a link of them for all you to enjoy, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iVokp_tpDo
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+20Tip Number 11: Use a search engine that doesn't track your searches or censor information for the People's Republic Of China:

Tiananmen Square image search results: Google for America:

(b) Buried for being petulant
(c) Buried for not knowing that Customize Google exists - Domestiques, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1so you are chinese then? google censoring info in china has effected you how?
