- GoKings, on 06/18/2009, -58/+451I don't know what everyone is bitching about. They are just trying to market their product. What's wrong with that? If Google or Mozilla did this everyone would be talking about how cool it is. Instead, everyone is calling Microsoft desperate and retarded. Let's put it this way. Microsoft still owns 90% of the computer market. They are in no way "desperate." Also, $10,000 is chump-change to advertise a product. Even if they got people to download it JUST to do this game, that's $10,000 well spent. Seems like a pretty smart strategy to me.
Sorry I interrupted your Microsoft hate-fest, carry on now. - TheMAZZTer, on 06/17/2009, -13/+273Much better than the website that insulted my browser choices.
- mhollerb, on 06/18/2009, -13/+156i don't get it.
- Nboy514, on 06/18/2009, -2/+124You have to zoom in, and you'll see a Firefox crop circle.
- Strenoth, on 06/18/2009, -14/+116Well, to show how effective MS's campaign is... <.< I hadn't even heard of it.
- noccy80, on 06/17/2009, -25/+110Haha, brilliant! The entire 10 grand campaign is just retarded. It's not surprising that Microsoft have to offer $10,000 AUD for people to switch browsers tho.
- JoeHague, on 06/18/2009, -1/+72Microsoft is having some contest online. There is a bunch of rigmarole involving IE8, Australia, a bunch of porn stars who got AIDS on the job, 16 year old kids and twitter and $10k. I think the idea is for people to switch to IE8.
So someone clever set up this web site and if you click and zoom enough you can find a link in the San Fernando valley to download FireFox.
Come to think of it I don't get it either/ - 4321234, on 06/18/2009, -6/+68We had a nice hate fest going until you shills showed up.
- sleuce, on 06/18/2009, -6/+55This doesn't look like my ex-wife's chest, it looks like a map.
- KF6BBL, on 06/18/2009, -3/+51So just a couple hundred feet to the south, WTF? Is that like a drug deal gone bad? Cars, an airplane, and a dozen bodies? Maybe the 10 grand is in columbian gold.
- UselessPwn, on 06/18/2009, -2/+32I live 12 miles away from there.....should I go check it out?
- woofers07, on 06/18/2009, -1/+30Except that's definitely the Willamette Valley in Oregon, not that that makes anymore sense or anything.
- Llanowar, on 06/18/2009, -0/+29...
That must be the worst browser comparison ever. - JohnnyKdiggs, on 06/18/2009, -7/+35I hereby call the future winner of this competition (and he's probably here on Digg) to donate the $10,000 to the Mozilla Foundation.
http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/donate.html
That is all. - baramunchies, on 06/18/2009, -2/+30because this came up today as well.
http://digg.com/d1u7Az - Shmebber, on 06/18/2009, -2/+23They're so MEAN about my usage of Firefox... "Get rid of it or get lost!" I mean c'mon, that's just cruel.
- copperp, on 06/18/2009, -3/+24now you have. seems like it worked.
- fenghiskhan, on 06/18/2009, -4/+24First thought:
There was money ... IN the banana stand!!! - BeaverBoy, on 06/18/2009, -0/+19dugg for rigmarole
- clarious, on 06/18/2009, -6/+25Agree, it is the most retarded marketing campaign by MS, ever.
- dafragsta, on 06/18/2009, -0/+18Hmmm.... the Mozilla foundation or hookers and blow... decisions, decisions...
- Xpletive, on 06/18/2009, -2/+20love how the site doesn't work on IE8
- billjimbob, on 06/18/2009, -6/+23I haven't heard of it until now. Assuming I'm not alone, all these people digging this to the front page to laugh at Microsoft probably just made that $10,000 worth it for MS.
- 007isbond1, on 06/18/2009, -2/+18the whole 'we will donate 8 meals to starving america if you download out browser' got me to get the new IE... but i dont think i have installed it yet.. so win win there.
- hardeep1singh, on 06/18/2009, -0/+16They said the same thing about my Opera browser. So MEAN. (roflmao)
Its a browser, you can keep 10 on your PC, its not like they're making fun of your Car or Bike or your financial status. - GrilliamG, on 06/18/2009, -10/+25Precisely.
- hadak, on 06/18/2009, -0/+15(Zoom in)
- bail3yz, on 06/18/2009, -0/+15Seems legit to me.. not biased at all.....
- Bill Gates - srg13, on 06/18/2009, -2/+16It's funny how they use the term 'Microsoft's best ever browser' to describe IE - because technically it's true. Saying that it is the 'best browser' or even a good browser would just be plain incorrect.
- CoreyTamas, on 06/18/2009, -4/+17The cherry on the top is the "I just cracked Photoshop this week" use of the bevel filter on the text. When I first saw it, I wasn't sure if it was a spoof because I thought there was no way Microsoft would let something that shoddy through their QA. And then I remembered Vista...
- inactive, on 06/18/2009, -1/+13wait what? when I zoom in there is a firefox logo...
- seanmc303, on 06/18/2009, -2/+13Caught on? This just strikes me as desperate and pathetic. It is not saying "use our browser because it really kicks ass." It is saying IE8 can't offer you anything better or different than the competition so the only thing we can do is bribe you to use it. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm starting to feel sorry for Microsoft.
- diggforworld, on 06/18/2009, -0/+11Google + Mozilla = Godzilla .
- baines, on 06/18/2009, -1/+12Brilliantly retarded.
- ddgromit, on 06/18/2009, -4/+15Hint: They've hidden the money in an ActiveX control.
- AxsToro, on 06/18/2009, -0/+11Nah, i'm already on my way. Only 2,464 miles to go. :)
- 0tis, on 06/18/2009, -1/+11Consider the fact that the majority of computer users run Windows, which comes with IE as default. Therefore, those who are not using IE have made an informed decision to go and download another browser.
This isn't making people aware of a great product they've never used, it's an attempt to bribe people to use a product they have most likely already decided is too ***** for their computer. Are people really going to stick with it once someone wins the $10, 000? - dhess, on 06/18/2009, -0/+10Actually, Antarctica leads the world in alternative browser adoption... with 100%
http://digg.com/software/Firefox_Has_Got_a_100_Mar ... - wilc8650, on 06/18/2009, -2/+12LOL @ the shenanigans going on south of the Firefox logo.
Bravo, Google, bravo. - Torque05, on 06/18/2009, -0/+9How is this not more commented on.
- 300bigboys, on 06/18/2009, -1/+10I think it just means Oregon is awesome.
- seanmc303, on 06/18/2009, -1/+9WTF?! Their comparison chart seems a just little bias and oh so wrong. Microsoft must really be having problems.
- ghatid, on 06/18/2009, -0/+8Because Pirates used to bury things in Australia. Ask Somalians, they probably still do.
- jamwil87, on 06/18/2009, -0/+8No, but you should probably go see if all those people south of it are ok.
- Xpletive, on 06/18/2009, -2/+10you're so cool
- LETHARGICpirate, on 06/18/2009, -2/+10There's a magical button on the right side of his comment that puts your comment right under his (no need for "@TheMAZZTer") . It's called "reply"
- capstinence, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7Mozilla and Google don't constantly over-promise and under-deliver on products.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 06/18/2009, -1/+8@clarious I agree. It seems they just fail at hiring a good PR firm... weird.
- LegomanArt, on 06/18/2009, -0/+7This is dumb.
- AxsToro, on 06/18/2009, -1/+8*****, I would download IE8 if someone offered $5.. Hell, i'd even do it for a Can of coke. >__>
