- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+47Well, they claim right on the page, that it's not an April Fool's joke. God, I hate this day. Weeding through the stories on Digg, is like trying to weed through all of the spam in my email.
- marshall007, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27they have an absolutely beautiful, simple web page design.
- MikeKnoop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Why did they name is tapeFAILURE? That doesn't quite instill confidence in the service!
-Mike - chickenlol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This is a fairly common precaution, it at least gives some protection against being sued/billed by someone that submits an idea that you've already thought up.
- flap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7woo errors on singing up for beta.
I hope they saw me do that... - leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The worst part about april fools is that people come up with gag ideas that aren't that far fetched.
Like last year someone introduced wireless electricity as a sort of joke; but that's just stupid as a joke because both Tesla and Edison thought all electricity should be delivered wirelessly.
My favorite NPR example they mentioned a product, the dog bark translator. Thing is, at the time it was actually being developed and released soon after. Whether it was a great device or not, it was being developed and their joke was stupid. - Scyth3, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Big brother's watching you....
Oh, and having "failure" apart of your name isn't the wisest choice you'd think. - ayavilevich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yep, nice design, but the concept is not new. ClickTale has been doing something like this for over a year now. See the announcement from 264 days ago: http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Webmasters_Can_Watch_What_Visitors_Do_with_AJAX-based_Service

I remember trying the service out back when it only allowed you to record your own browsing sessions and send them to others. (Eg. Give someone a walkthrough or tour of a site.) - wotcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Damn, Duggmirror didn't manage to get a snapshot of it.
- endtwist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Temporary mirror: http://tapefailure.unwieldy.net/ (until it goes down as well.)
- civperc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is GOLD for e-commerce sites, wewt!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone have a screenshot of the page? Google Cache has the page before it was opened. I want to see what's so beautiful about the design.
- Squashhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, this is a pretty sweet program! I can't wait for this site to get back up so I can try it on my site. Anyone who's looking to better their business, this can help to know exactly where people are bailing.
- unsolicited, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1While working for Divine Inc in 2004 I have developed a similar tool for our QA team to test CMS products.
It is called CapRep (Capture Replay).
It was a good tool to reproduce production errors in our engineering labs.
Nevertheless, TapeFailure looks good. - DiggingDeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they're using it on their own site
"lets see what these nubs do with mysql errors all over the page!" - optophobia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1who else got an invite ?
- bonexaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it also let you watch your site get slower and slower as more Digg users visit it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks vaguely similar to www.reinvigorate.net (also beta). I wish either one would accept me for beta testing...

That's exactly what I seen from Google's cache. I thought that something had changed. Well, thanks for posting the screenshot anyway! - MrSunshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Weren't tools like this announced some years ago, but due to implementation into Spyware and privacy issues, internet users got upset?
- maseone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1they should have called it sql_Failure, hehehe jk.
- ewcost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow this is a really nice service. Has anyone got a login?
- kskatzke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Considering the number of MySQL errors I got and the amateurish coding that this revealed when I tried to add my name to the list, I'm not sure I'd trust this service with my data.
- AussieJake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been using Click Density the past few weeks, it's the closest I've found to reproducing what a visitor does on the site. Any others?
- jimcarrey363, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Great, now porn sites can watch what I'm doing....
;-) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm diggin the idea, but I still like Mint better and it doesn't have monthly fees.
- Andy92, on 01/15/2009, -1/+1Wow, i am so signing up for this!
Great story!
:) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0By the way, they've been around for a while already. See Ajaxian from one year ago: http://ajaxian.com/archives/tapefailurecom-a-history-recording-tool
- maskott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Looks like a pretty straight ripoff of ClickTale...
- Gioware, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yay, MySQL Errors are all over...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks brilliant. Beautiful page design too.
- gwinerreniwg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1My company uses something called "TeaLeaf" that is an actual release (not in Beta), and does the same thing. I suspect TeaLeaf is much more expensive though: ( http://www.tealeaf.com/ ). Anyone care to comment on Pros/Cons of either product? (Prob not - I suppose we'd rather read about "how cool" and "April Fools").
- SonOfLilit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Indeed, exactly what ClickTale does, except that the latter is up and running.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6this is pretty cool. I wanted to sign up for their beta but their MySQL server seems to be down.
For anyone that hasn't tried crazyegg, check it out: http://www.crazyegg.com - they track user's mouse clicks
also http://www.google.com/analytics has a site overlay feature that tracks a million different things including clicks and exit rates - elitork, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Video review of the TapeFailure

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I like how this site is receiving a lot of diggs even after being down.
- eonblue, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1TapeFailure.com seems to be a pretty apt name for a site who got the digg effect.
Looks like an april fools joke to me though. - Ai3d, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't create a new thread (errno 12); if you are not out of available memory, yo

***** retards. - Soldierboi, on 05/09/2008, -11/+2Well don't expect any credit for suggestions you may have for improvement:
"Please note that any suggestions sent to that address become the sole property of Tapefailure, and you release all rights to the idea and anything associated with it." - donatj, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1My guess, this is a late april fools joke
