- idunno, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My Apple senses when I am about to leave and begins to shut down immediately. This saves me time which I can spend admiring my Steve Jobs photo collection.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had a guy call me for help one time, said his pc wouldn't turn on, so he brought it to me, and dropped it off, when I got home, I plugged it up, booted up and ran with no problem, he comes to pick it up, and I said "yeah boots up fine" so he goes over to it, turns it on and it doesn't boot up, I said, what did you do, he said I did what I always do to boot up my pc I reached around the back and flipped the switch on the power supply..... I said do you turn your pc off that way too? he said Yep.... So I smacked him a few times, and taught him about the magic button on the front of the pc .... and all was good. So you could just hit that little switch on the back of the power supply, guaranteed superfast shut down!!!
- JonRick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Pull the plug out of the wall? lol :p j/k
- LeeVal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thanks
- Calculon64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just what I was looking for..Great timing
- Menoats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ya good info but honestly who cares? Just click start > shutdown. Walkaway. I don't care how long it takes turning off I'm walking away.
- datter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never shut mine off.
- MightyGoldenBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There would probably have been a lot of other more detail rich resources for the same info and without the shameless self promotion, but +digg anyway because it's good info.
- drwtsn32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No digg. Clearing the pagefile is off by default. And killing services prematurely can be dangerous. Many services legitimately take longer than 100 - 400 milliseconds to shut down. Yeah, killing them early would be faster but it's not very safe at all.
- behemothaur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wankers! +digg - good tips thanks.

People who duel boot into linux. - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, they can also use swords, or fisticuffs if they want.

Is that when 2 people who want to use the computer at the same time, take 10 paces, turn and fire guns at each other? :) - ^^^^, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1> My Apple senses when I am about to leave and begins to shut down immediately.

Funny :P - andreizilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just press the button, close the lid, walk away.
Tell me how to make it boot up faster (I know there are articles on it, but tell me that instead) - CaptainCalculus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I leave my computer on for about a week or two at a time and then restart it on a schedule. If you are using and Windows OS, Windows is reknown for its horrible use of memory. Even I have been privy to the once in a blue moon memory dump blue screen of reincarnation (a close cousin to the Blue Screen of Death). Anyway, to make a long story short, YOU MUST RESTART IT ANYWHERE FROM ONCE A DAY TO ONCE A WEEK...
I am going to stay away from this, because I truly don't give a ***** about my shutdown times... Nice try though and still DUGG... - racerxyz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0here's what I use, I create a shortcut or batch file with this command:
shutdown -f -t 0 \%computername%
-f = force shutdown
-t = wait 0 seconds.
-r = reboot - yukevster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 "just hit that little switch on the back of the power supply, guaranteed superfast shut down!!!"
Thanks for the tip 'motionb' - I tried it and works fine. Anyone else tried this tip? - asshopo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"No digg. Clearing the pagefile is off by default. Exactly my thoughts when I read it. Imagine doing this to any type of production server.. a database server? Kill MSSQL in 400ms? Right, and you will spend about 3 days booting and letting MSSQL recover it's data. - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I really don't trust REGEDIT mods, especially (no offense) when they're on a personal blog/website. I wouldn't do this. =/
- hotdiggity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Close Services Quicker" is staggeringly bad advice. DON'T do that to any computer in a work environment (i.e., business, hospital, whatever). Good grief.

- jmccorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It goes to the logoff splash screen faster, but it still hangs there for a minute. :( or :) ?
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know what memory dump of reincarnation you're talking about, but my Inspiron 9300 has been on since I moved into my dorm in August. It's doing just fine. Unfortunately I'm gonna have to restart it to install Matlab pretty soon.
- Namco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man, this wouldn't even be good enough to make Amber's Windows Tips on Call for Help. No Digg!
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wow, people shut off their computers? when the hell do you do all that downloading and divx encoding?
