    eg: digg.com/mysite.com (would give you a shorturl even if it was non-submitted)

  • str3ama, on 04/02/2009, -0/+1you're right - technically this could be used for spam and porn, and I'm sure they'll gain wind of it and start using it for this very purpose...since digg urls will lend a bit of credibility.

    It'll be interesting to see how digg plays gatekeeper in what they allow and restrict. I'm sure TinyURL is inundated with spammers.

    The page itself is what was wonky... it has some odd loading going on. I loaded it up without the DiggBar and got the "jumpiness" you might be describing.

And did it EVER occur to you guys to tell the browser to actually cache some stuff (e.g., user icons) properly? It doesn't matter how many times one has seen a page before -- Firefox always rerequests all the stupid user icons and scripts. What a total waste of bandwidth.

  • cran, on 04/03/2009, -15/+11The bar is cool, but the shortened URLs are NOT. The short URL hosting the bar is fine, but when I share links with friends, the bar should be using the ORIGINAL URL, not the shortened Digg URL.

Malware made easy, hide the links, track the views, simple. I think Yahoo had a hole like this previously but they patched it because that's exactly what people were doing, using Yahoo's redirection for malware.

    I can just see some story on techcrunch about how digg is trying to take on tinyurl, when in reality they're not even close.
