- diggsocks, on 07/04/2009, -9/+37Oh no! Not BING!
- vault, on 07/04/2009, -2/+24You'd think Microsoft would host Bing Travel in their own datacenter, not this one.
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/04/2009, -6/+20so if we nuke seattle we cud take down the internet?
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+12Good thing they weren't hosting torrents.
- RiotHeart, on 07/04/2009, -0/+12Just BING travel :)
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+13I think the world will survive without motherjones.com
- a3r0, on 07/04/2009, -0/+7Not when the datacentre actually hosting the site catches on fire
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -1/+8Well the location is a very safe bet. Its not that far from MS campus in Redmond and the building is fairly brand new, probably 6 years old. Compared to the dozens of decades old data center locations closer to the heart of dt Seattle.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5Google made the first move against Microsoft. The other sites hit were merely collateral damage. The Search War has begun. Which side will you take?
- TrevorBradley, on 07/04/2009, -1/+6I know this won't affect most digg users, but geocaching.com was down for a couple of days, just before the long weekend.
- rebelcommander, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5A good chunk of it! There's another big carrier hotel (big internet exchange) downtown in the Westin Building!
- Tarmogoyf, on 07/04/2009, -0/+5Google just has to rub it in, don't they?
- Artology, on 07/04/2009, -2/+6Kill it with fire!
- demonthises, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4One egg, one basket
- yocouchdigga, on 07/04/2009, -0/+4authorize.net went back up earlier today, can't speak for the others.
- maxvette, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3Dozens of people were affected by this outage
- BTime, on 07/05/2009, -0/+3and Twitter
- orb9220, on 07/04/2009, -0/+3I saw the Google jet landing here at Portland on a stopoverto its designation to Seattle on Thurs. evening.
What looked like Google personnel where seen buying Fireworks at a fireworks stand.
Coincidence? Or a Google Black OP? Only you can decide.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2Why don't you go find out. "do no evil" is their motto and yet they suppress info at the behest of the chinese government.
- damonic, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3There is a huge data center in the Fisher Plaza building. Got a tour when I applied for a job there. Interesting place. Hope they get back online soon.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2So this is the beginning of the First Corporate War? Sounds like Cyberpunk has just begun to take hold; I wonder where I can get a full body conversion
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Actually, I was.. BING Travel is awesome. It's like Orbitz, except it doesn't take 75 minutes to run a qery.
http://www.bing.com/travel/ - BTime, on 07/05/2009, -0/+2Let's ask Mr. Owl..
- getoffmybridge, on 07/04/2009, -4/+6never will
- Azsen, on 07/04/2009, -0/+2Looks like they didn't design with Disaster Recovery in mind.
- HeDiggMe, on 07/04/2009, -1/+3Really? Yall havent seen those commercials everywhere?
- afwjam, on 07/04/2009, -2/+3The real tragedy is that geocaching.com went down.
- ninzo09, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1damn americans, with their y'all and ***** like that
- ZeroCubed, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1was this why All Recipes.com was down? I tried all day yesterday to get in for a dessert recipe for tonight. Had to settle with sugar cookies.
- inactive, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Fairly brand new?
- JordanTW90, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Step 1: Record not so substantial event
Step 2: Hire writer to create crisis
Step 3: Submit to cheap press release firm
Step 4: ?????
...PROFIT! - inactive, on 07/04/2009, -0/+1Yep, but at the end of the line, you have servers....unless those companies have their servers in multiple locations across the country, when you have a problem inside your datacenter, you are down for the count.
Ideally, if you have the capacity, you host your servers off-site, but have on-site fail-over....
I can see many disaster recovery plans being re-written in the next few weeks.....interesting article! - Atomic1fire, on 07/05/2009, -0/+1Depends on the location genious,
Some of us call drinking fountains bubblers, some of us use the phrase yall (I don't but its a farther south term) and there are probably plenty of other differences in language, its called dialect, get used to it. - inactive, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1I think its 5-6 years old. A mere infant compared to surrounding buildings, that were built for the 1962 world fair. Other buildings closer to the DT area, are just as old, if not older.
- Faasnat, on 07/04/2009, -1/+2That would be the reason. BTW, there are other recipe sites...
- mcrules, on 07/04/2009, -2/+2I would only believe a conspiracy like this *IF* bing was better than google, but it's not :-)
- zer0mass, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1"unless those companies have their servers in multiple locations across the country"
Many do, you would think Microsoft would be one of them especially with their new baby. - plague, on 07/04/2009, -5/+5Bejeweled Blitz on Facebook was down too because of this. I had some bad withdrawal.
- zer0mass, on 07/06/2009, -0/+0Fair enough, but they also have been year after year donating to the Freenet Project which would allow those same people to poke through the great firewall of China to an unfiltered nearly untraceable network.
freenetproject.org
"Google's Open Source team has donated US$18,000 to the Freenet Project to support the ongoing development of the Freenet software (thanks again Google!).
Their last donation funded the db4o project, which has now been merged into Freenet, greatly improving performance for large download queues while reducing memory usage, amongst other benefits." - mcrules, on 07/04/2009, -1/+1Not enough!
- thebigredcat, on 07/04/2009, -2/+2And Dotster. . . some services were down.
- Feldon, on 07/04/2009, -3/+2Steve just put 8 billion in to Bing just to see it go up in flames. lol
- ninzo09, on 07/04/2009, -2/+1I thought June 28 was all caps day
- tits0Rgtfo, on 07/04/2009, -1/+0How much cred did GPR(Google Public Relations) slip you for that comment? I'll stick to my shadow connections. They tend to shoot straighter.
- appleberry, on 07/04/2009, -1/+0That's what happens when you don't have a firewall...
- AndrewDB, on 07/04/2009, -6/+5I guess you could say they've been binged.
- TheAeneid, on 07/05/2009, -1/+0Google ninjas at work.
- inactive, on 07/04/2009, -3/+2HOW DARE YOU INSULT GOOGLE HERE ON DIGG, WE DIGGERS WILL NOT STAND FOR IT! NOT ONE DAY CAN PASS WITHOUT US SUCKING GOOGLE'S CORPORATE *****
- popfrogs2, on 07/04/2009, -9/+7What's the point in yet another me-too product from Microsoft? Google already has search covered for 99% of us.
- HeDiggMe, on 07/04/2009, -7/+5Fire, fireworks, fire safety, only you can prevent forest fires, spit hot fire, We didn't start the fire...
