- mtcow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18We should have a sub-category under Technology on digg called "TechCrunch".
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The voice is perfectly fine and easy to understand. The guy has an accent, but he's still very clear. What's the problem?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9For all the newbs
Ajax = javascript, html, browser dependent.
Flash = Actionscript/Mxml, browser independent.
Windows Presentation Foundation (wpf) = C#/Xaml, microsoft dependent (but can export to flash)
Apollo = new API that lets you access the OS through flash. Think of a flash application being able to run on windows, linux, or mac just like a regular app. Installer, File IO, network, drag and drop, the works, think (what java should have been) - Takuro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Ok, why do we need a Digg submission which points to some useless blog entry about something that was already on the front page yesterday? And whats more, yesterday's Digg submission pointed directly to the site, bypassing this sort of stuff.
Just go to http://www.iscrybe.com . No need to promote a blog. - sorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@ 1021
Nah, i'm not waiting for Google to adapt ANYTHING. I'm waiting for them to buy Scrybe -- hell, i'm almost suprised they did not do it already! - Yarnage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Remember, Flex is compiled into an SWF so to the browser and us, it's just a normal flash movie.
- xswag, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I can't wait to test that.
- DanaG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"And unline all the other calendar software out there, they remembered that paper exists! "
OT, but that feature reminded me of PocketMod ( http://www.pocketmod.com/ ), a clever little pocket organizer. Check it out, you might find it useful.
It's ok, digg me down if you want to. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Its not javascript, its flex
- Takteek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow this looks really amazing. And unline all the other calendar software out there, they remembered that paper exists! Very cool.
- Quavistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Offline is like when you are commuting to work on the bus, right?
- Tyrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Offline? Huh? What's that?
- pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm very much looking forward to this. With that said... correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the third front page story on the same video in the past day or two. Marked as dupe.
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i cant wait either, will be so helpfull from a design and dev standpoint!
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Waiting for Google, and all of the other big players to copy the interesting features in Scribe into their offerrings in 5..4..3..2...1..
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10way to be racist.
- Dizzy149, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thanks I was getting a few of those mixed up :)
- abyssknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm very sick of the TechCrunch plugs. An article about an article about a program that hasn't been released but hit the homepage 3 times before this article, genius. No, stop, just ... stop.
- synae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3edit: sorrow beat me to it ;-]
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I have trouble with is faulty NIC's or iffy wireless links. This, so far, is the one thing I don't like about Google's office products so far. If I do something while the net connection is down, I can't keep that work.
- stevenbao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This definitely sets the bar way up high for these kinds of applications. Few (if any) current apps are better than Scrybe.
- PhrosTT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Things like this make me realize how much I suck at JavaScript.
- wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Deus Ex music makes me think it's the work of Daedalus, trying to organise us puny humans.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Headline should read:
Scrybe Could Set New Standard For Hype
Okay, okay. It does look hot, no doubt about it. And the potential is huge. But dang, let's not get wet until we get a look at the beta. It's vaporware until then. - stisaac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3One caveat with scrybe is that you need macromedia flash to run it. This should be fine unless you're using linux, however.
- vaalaskala, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2biggest probleem for me is offline usage of online tools :) and the next big thing is sync with mobile. Let see how it works out
- samadam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Aye, and one for newscientist.com too!
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think this might be a duplicate story, but whatever. Not like Digg is going to implode. Either way, this is a really cool application. The whole calender context thing reminds me of the Digg SWARM.
- reiggin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm interested in new web calendar apps right now and I hope that this Scrybe can do at least one thing that WebCalendar can't. That being, the ability for anonymous (non-registered) users to subscribe to email alerts for re-occuring events.
Basically, I'm trying to set up a section of a website where local folks can submit events they're hosting and others can then subscribe to those events and receive email reminders of the events. From what I've seen, WebCalendar can't do this. I hope Scrybe can fill this gap. Or if someone knows another server-side app that can, let me know. :) - reiggin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Edit: You fixed your typo. Good job.
- Quavistar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe digg will get a clue from Scrybe and implement some groundbreaking functionality. Ever found yourself rushing to be among the top five to comment on a hot digg? A lot of us will never be first to comment on a digg let alone break 100 diggs on a submitted topic. What if this very comment you are reading rotated to the #1 comment position, then to the # 2, etc, etc. Get a clue digg!
- phogasmic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't wait to get my hands on this. Hopefully they create a easy way to sync with my smart phone that is the last piece of the organizing holy grail to me.
- deusx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"The ONLY different between AJAX being used on IE and it being used in every other browser is the way ther XmlObject is created. That's it. It's part of the JavaScript specification and is standardized."
What specification or standard? Give me an RFC or a W3C URL. Safari, unless it's been fixed and I haven't noticed, can't do anything but GET and POST requests under HTTP. No PUT or DELETE. Other browsers have this issue too. Originally, XmlHTTPRequest was an IE enhancement, which other browsers picked up ad hoc. There are standardization efforts under way now, retroactively. And if it were a part of a standard, why is the XmlHTTPRequest object instantiated in completely different ways between IE, Firefox, etc..?
Hell, just read the Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XMLHttpRequest#History_and_support
As for Apollo, try looking it up:
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Apollo:developerfaq
"Apollo is the code name for a cross-operating system runtime being developed by Adobe that allows developers to leverage their existing web development skills (Flash, Flex, HTML, JavaScript, Ajax) to build and deploy Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) to the desktop." - bertram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow - now the tech crunch spam is just submitting dupes. it's so tough - mark as lame? mark as spam? mark as dupe? it's tech crunch, i'm marking spam...which is par for the course.
- MSTK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree-- they should have pulled off another Keyhole.
- cowenowner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Scrybe looks good, but let's see how the final app really runs. There could be problems with speed and syncing these potentially massive personal databases across computers. If the data is stored on servers, who is going to host it? The clipping and search portion of Scrybe has already been done beautifully by the free app EverNote. Hopefully EverNote will take a hint and also add some of the calendaring functions in Scrybe.
- madcap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hoping flash's performance on linux (aka not the best) doesn't hurt the usability of the app for me, As im really looking forward to trying it.

Burried. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7We all know that -real- americans don't have accents. Like the founding fathers said, "real americans are born in america."
:/ - stuffhappens, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks interesting.
Worth checking out Zimbra for comparison:

What? I dont get it...
Oh, wait, maybe he meant "Views". - jdonner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No thanks, I care about my privacy.

EDIT - Nevermind, just realized that this is useful for people that travel with notebooks. :P - Takuro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2http://digg.com/design/Amazing_online_organizer
There's the Digg submission I was talking about. Marked this one as a duplicate. Come on people, it's been less than 24 hours since that article's submission. - naffets, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I registered purely to bury what UltimaNut said, so racist its unbelievable.
On Topic: Awesome looking app, i'll use it
Edit:
Quote = No disrespect to anyone but they should have chosen a better spokesperson. Being in the tech industry all I could think of hearing his voice was "outsourced". Turned me off instantly. / End quote - hokkos, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Apollo not AJAX, now I understand !
