- str3ama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23I've used Joost and I'm a little disappointed, it's only video on demand and they don't plan on ever actually streaming live channels unfortunately. However, it's great to see that some major stations are putting up their shows for everyone to watch (it means more ad $$$ for them anyways). But Joost is essentially p2p streaming of videos - you watch the clip as it downloads through a peer to peer connection, and you have to wait for them to add more videos before you can watch anything new (it's not live tv). In terms of uniqueness, this has somewhat already existed through TVUPlayer and even Democracy player (which has torrent support), also sites like Peekvid (http://www.peekvid.com) and TV-Links (http://www.tv-links.co,uk) closely resemble video on demand (not p2p, but depend on hosts like youtube/dailymotion), and then there's the live tv (need broadband connection) through FreeTube (http://www.freetube.us.tc) or CNN's pipeline (http://www.cnn.com/pipeline/) or TVUPlayer(http://www.tvunetworks.com/) which are closer to IPTV.
Also don't EVER buy Joost invites, it's going to be public in a few months and you're wasting your money. If you must have one now try http://www.joostswap.com or http://www.joost.uni.cc or the joost invitation project (http://www.digg.com/software/Joost_invitation_project_a_digg_community_effort) - they're all free, and are a much safer way to get an invite then paying some scammer. - RationalAntaxia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I've been using Joost. It is pretty damn slick and cool, but the content isn't all that exciting. They just have a list of episodes available for you to watch and you have no choice of whether you would like to go get new ones or not. So in that aspect, it kinda sucks. It's definitely a slick app though that you can waste some time with.
- FoxFaction, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7This guy says that his wired connection to the internet works much faster and better than his wireless. He says this as if wireless is the bottleneck of his connection to Joost. I really doubt that to be the case, as most wireless networks run at 54 Mbits/sec and his internet probably runs at 1/8th that speed. Even if he had a really good internet connection and a really poor network connection, his wireless network connection should more than handle it.
I have Joost and I don't particularly like it. I don't want TV on-demand, I just want TV that plays. That's the point of TV, is that you can just stare at it and not have to worry about finding good shows or skimming through all the different episodes to find one that looks interesting. Once there's more content maybe my view will change, who knows. - bstolzberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i'm surprised at the amount of people who are willing to give out their email addresses like that. herro! internet not safe! you will all certainly get more spam now.
quality is what customers want. that's what i think is key to joosts longevity. without quality video it will be a fancy youtube player. perhaps it's a product ahead of it's time.
when are all of the seinfeld episodes going to be on there is what i really want to know.
(you can buy an invite on ebay for $10-$20 if you're a sucker) - tymme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Wow, I feel like I'm reading a thread for free movies off alt.sex.binaries.erotica 10 years ago...
- jragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The content issue will improve, but never to the extent that you'll want.
New episode of Entourage? Sopranos? Heros? Lost? The Office? Daily Show? No, because they're actually worth money.
MTV's Laguna Beach and Beauty and the Geek? Yes. - robertgoodwin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I just got hooked up last night myself. The National Geographic channel is definitely the most compelling content at the moment, at least for me. I would like to see some Sci-Fi on there, and maybe some stuff from Discovery or the History Channel. But, hey, it's just in beta. I'm sure the content will be fleshed out down the road.
Sorry, I don't have any invites yet. - Satertek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This digg makes for good downvote practice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ misshapes
So I share a little blame. How come the installer didn't do any basic environment checking before running the installer? I still say it's piss-poor programming. - MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've also been using Joost for a while, and it seems the biggest drawbacks are the poor resolution (about TiVo medium res) and the lack of good content. The content issue will improve, but I don't see how they'd up the resolution issues and still maintain the seamless streaming throughput.
- gunnard, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Joost doesn't have the content that people want yet, I don't want to watch Laguna Beach, or National Geographic Doc's all day long....
www.dontwatchme.com lists Shoutcast streams of TV shows that I want to watch. Also it has nifty links to torrents (best thing since Tivo)/ - damonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty dissapointed with it too. Mainly because the video is low quality and it stutters as it has to rebuffer itself every 20 seconds - even on my Comcast cable connection. Its a nice first effort but they have a long way to go.
- outhouseinput, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's exactly right. If cable channels up the ante like ABC, Fox, CBS, and NBC have by serving full episodes as quickly after their release as possible, then Joost will have something going for it. However, due to the nature of a program as something of an experiment, I don't see that happening anytime soon. Especially considering that most quality programs worth watching on the computer come on very few channels. MTV is not my idea of episodes that I have to catch up on every week. I mean seriously, your mom is not that important to my everyday life. Hiro Nakamura, however, makes TV awesome.
- belfastbiker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wouldn't work for me, saying something about a proxy problem, without offering any way or fixing or configuring it - just wouldn't load. Lame.
Hey Joost, all my other ***** weird-ass download/streaming software works! - fmc6338, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2great not only can I get 100 channels of ***** on cable, now I can watch it on the net.
- bobbknight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There is no freedom with Joost, and the programming lacks programs of interest, I would get more out of reruns on G4.
- daoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I love this article. I've added to: http://www.thesecrets.biz/story.php?title=Screenshot-Tour-Watch-TV-over-internet-with-Joost

Granted, it's on the legal fringe, but I love it. :) - hmunkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I need an invite please. Thanks!
Huntermunkey@gmail.com - kjcdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Joost is pretty sweet. Probably the best show on their is "The Conentioners," by Bite TV.
- OAKsider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OAKside24 [/|at|] gmail [/]dot[] com
- quadvods, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The gui is a bit slow even on my 2ghz intel macbook.. content isnt great, but may fill some moments of boredom somewhere!
- TargetDog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Joost is slick but I like TVU better.
- JarekB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All gone
- daborg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Indeed. Wake me up when I can watch Scrubs on it. Until then... *yawn*
- yardApe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's a great idea, but it runs kinda herky-jerky on my 2 year old computer. The content is so-so, but I'm betting that'll change in the next few months. It's well worth a try if you like to be on the cutting edge of new apps. Oh, and you need at least 500 mg. of RAM to get decent results.
- Daniel591992, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ahhh what happened to digg???!
- SaintFatMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Ignore my email, not sure why i sent it. Consider the invite sent.

"To run Joost 0.9.2 for Mac OS X, you need an Intel-based Mac running OS X 10.4 or later, as well as a broadband internet connection. For more details on specific requirements, see the system requirements page."
Maybe you should do a little reading before hitting the download button? - raynor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Much appreciated if anyone could spare an invite and pass it my way. Thanks in advance!

- silver_dragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1might as well add my name to the list of people looking for an invite.
thanks.
adaml52@gmail.com - jasoncps, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing beats a slingbox mixed with home cable/satellite and a dvr. You get every channel u could ever want, plus all your recordings anywhere in the world. You are paying for your home cable anyways, and the content on there destroys everything else. If you want TV on your computer, there is only one way to go.
- Florian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yay Gustavo!
- radam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'd like an invite too, should any be available floating out there.

There are more TV channels than Joost have and all of them are online, not just episodes. - Panthro83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The best thing about joost is it runs instantly - and I'm using a 4year old thinkpad over 11g wifi.
It has a variety of channels/programs that whilst not 'must watch tv', can happily kill time and it also has a good selection of music videos (Bjork, Prodigy, Tiesto...)
It's definitely going to be interesting to see how many large broadcasters sign up and release content for it. - Synthia, on 11/17/2007, -0/+0Another free way to watch TV is TVonline. No download, install or invites needed. Just visit it : http://www.tvonline.2ya.com

and then they make you pay to sign up, or are cluttered with ads. I think that is ridiculous... so ive
done my research and have found a couple of really decent sites. The first one Id like to draw your
attention to is (viewmy.tv) This site has almost 1300 channels from around the globe and counting. it is
free to register and they dont ask for stupid details, just your username and email address. It actually
streams live channels so you dont have to download any and they have a pretty easy way of finding the
channel you want. You can search through genre, country, region or name of the channel. oh and there are
no ads either. Check this one out. With over 1300 channels from hundreds of countries, loads of features
like channel rating, user recommendations, live chat, profile pages and much much more. -
