- spritom, on 06/17/2008, -6/+120The thing's not even a day old and there's already Power Users?
- saWgurr, on 06/17/2008, -5/+60once again, lifehacker beats everyone to it. you guys are awesome....
- netneutrality, on 06/17/2008, -1/+51Digg and Gmail are *SO MUCH* faster in Firefox 3. After upgrading, there's just one thing I really miss -- the equivalent of the "Go" button. In FF2 it's a green arrow at the end of the address bar. I use that instead of Reload because it saves re-requesting all the stylesheets and scripts and images and stuff, so it's quicker.
But it's not there any more. Any known way to restore it? - TheKeithD, on 06/18/2008, -4/+37The true power users used the betas and RCs.
- bennovw, on 06/17/2008, -4/+36Wow, great article! I was unaware of the spell checking in One-line Input Fields tweak!
- KaivenTor, on 06/17/2008, -5/+27Dugg for finding the about:robot easter egg.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+17No.
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -5/+19I like ff3 much better than the massive memory leak that is ff2.
Built in gmail client FTW. - centran, on 06/17/2008, -0/+13I didn't like it at first until I realized how powerful it is.
It does a search for the text you enter throughout the entire url(not just auto completion from the beginning) and the web page title. It searches from your history as well as from your bookmarks. So if you found an interesting article about dogs or whatever but forgot the url then you could just type dog hoping it was in the title of the page or url.
On top of that when you bookmark sites you can now add tags to them and it will search the tags as well as everything else. - chaos7, on 06/18/2008, -0/+13it's about:robots
- Firespray1138, on 06/17/2008, -1/+14Kind of off subject but is there even a "Go" button anymore next to the address bar? Only buttons I have is the bookmark button, and the dropdown for the address bar.
- chaos7, on 06/18/2008, -1/+13the arrow is in the address bar instead.. but it's only there while you type in the bar and as the page is loading... then it goes away. it's a little blue arrow.
- NRay7882, on 06/17/2008, -1/+13The GMail hack is awesome. Just what I needed.
- doublsh0t, on 06/17/2008, -6/+17No matter how "great" they make the bookmarks feature, I seriously doubt I'll ever use it. It's just not something I find very useful =/
- DeathJux, on 06/18/2008, -1/+12lol
- backslashdigg, on 06/17/2008, -0/+8look up about 4 comments:
To stop annoying bookmark drop-down menu from URL bar:
1. Enter "about:config" into the address bar and hit Enter (no quotation marks).
2. Press the "I''ll be carefull. I promise!" button.
3. Enter "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults" in the Filter field (no quotation marks).
4. Change it from 12 results to 0 (or whatever number you want). - defaria, on 06/18/2008, -1/+8Some people have been using the betas for months....
- inactive, on 06/17/2008, -2/+9Basically, Firefox 3 notices how much the website sucks (tables.. tsk, tsk) and lets the user make it better by letting them rearrange it.
- ZedoMann, on 06/17/2008, -1/+8There is not a go button on the Address Bar until you start typing something in. If you watch when you type something in, the Bookmark Star Button changes to become the go button. Don't worry, you still have your precious Go button.
- megamod, on 06/17/2008, -3/+10I love the "less awesome bar" and the tweak to have less items in the AwesomeBar...after all I don't want to be using my laptop in front of my friends and have it find all my pr0n just because it was on the website title
- kansai22, on 06/17/2008, -1/+7Can someone please tell me how to stop the URL bar from displaying sites that start with the letters when I start typing?
Sometimes you don't want everyone looking at the sites that you have visited or that you have bookmarked. - 471776, on 06/17/2008, -0/+6Love the Hitchhikers references:
"Robots are Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun To Be With!"
Then press "Try Again" - 4321234, on 06/18/2008, -1/+7Wasn't funny the first time.
- IllBeBack, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5***** THE IE..er..AA!!!
- cbodall, on 06/18/2008, -0/+5are you an idiot?
- junkstore, on 06/18/2008, -1/+5I wish that there was some way of disabling the algorithm that the "AwesomeBar" uses so that it would be like Firefox 2. Even with about:config changed and Oldbar installed it still uses the same algorithm for suggesting URLs.
Still, Firefox 3.0 is still an improvement overall. - Wilson, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4Locationbar2 has an "Always show the go button" option, among other location bar enhancements:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/401 ... - tomato3017, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4Am I missing something? Wasn't there suppose to be a Private Browsing Feature? Makes it alot more secure when paying by credit card online.
- HueytheFreeman, on 06/18/2008, -0/+4That's what I initially thought, then I started using it and it was so handy! I'm not consistent using it, but it's definitely a great feature to have.
- bosssmiley, on 06/18/2008, -1/+5...using a trained butterfly and atmospheric lensing to modify the source code bit-by-bit on the disc platen. /xkcd.com
- TPHigginbotham, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3It's actually quicker just to click a "Go" button than to have to click inside the address bar and press Enter/Return. Of course, you *could* use the keyboard shortcut for placing focus in the address bar, but that's still an extra step.
Another reason I find for missing the "Go" button is when I want to refresh a page with a form on it without resubmitting the form. - digitaldivinci, on 06/17/2008, -0/+3You are a clever one but reported anyway.
- megamod, on 06/17/2008, -3/+6I love the "less awesome bar" and the tweak to have less items in the AwesomeBar...after all I don't want to be using my laptop in front of my friends and have it find all my pr0n just because it was on the website title
- Jammerdelray, on 06/17/2008, -1/+4Learned things I never would have if not for this article, Lifehacker rocks
- 4321234, on 06/18/2008, -1/+4one more.
- 4321234, on 06/18/2008, -1/+4I like you can resize text and it remembers it for each site. And the google searchbox stays whatever size you drag it to. I hadn't noticed those little improvements. Nice touches.
- backslashdigg, on 06/17/2008, -1/+4WTF?
- Jektal, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3That's not the same at all.. The go button was great because you could click it instead of Refresh to do a full request of the page. Sucks if you have to start typing for it to appear.
- Napiertt, on 06/18/2008, -0/+3It was hijacked by Iphone propaganda last week. Any "tech event" is goign to draw a disproportionate response for a few days before things settle down.
- wedges, on 06/17/2008, -1/+4i just want to know how to get rid of favicons entirely! i made them stop showing up, but i can't make the ones i already got disappear!
- ripter, on 06/17/2008, -1/+3Yes, if you type something in the address bar a little green arrow appears, that is the go button.
- Neiby, on 06/18/2008, -2/+4I hate the AwesomeBar. I think it sucks big green donkey weenies. I dugg the article for mentioning the Oldbar extension. I like FF 3.0, for sure, but the AwesomeBar is annoying as hell. Now I'm going to have to freaking delete my history all the time just to clear out all the ***** that that ***** bar remembers. FF 3.0 is a good step forward in a lot of ways, but the AwfulBar has got to go.
- Fergy, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2True powers users have been running Firefox 3 since alpha 1
- Fergy, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Do you think they don't know you watch porn?
- kevyn, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Foxmarks FTW
- davidgro, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2'seen things you people wouldn't believe' is from Blade Runner.
'Klaatu barada nikto' is from The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
(Army of Darkness's quote is "Klaatu Verada N-*cough*") - chaos7, on 06/18/2008, -2/+4pretty good article... but some stuff is lame..like saying you don't need downthemall! anymore. it's still very useful even with FF3.
- MicroStat08, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2Based on aesthetics Firefox kicks Opera's ass, because Opera looks like ass. Also, every time I use Opera it is much slower than Firefox. But I guess anything is better than IE....
- Greg2k, on 06/18/2008, -0/+2You must be the only person on the Internet who uses FX instead of FF, so FYI UR FTL
