- WillPate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Answered this on TechCrunch, but some of the same questions came up here:
Flickr functionality is still in the Photobucket edition browser, but not exposed by default. It doesn’t make sense to confuse Photobucket users when they try out Flock; but we’re not turning off Flickr support in the Photobucket edition either.
Flock has an open API for photo services, because we can’t develop support for every service ourselves. Extension developers will find themselves welcome. :)
Cheers,
Will Pate
Community Ambassador, Flock - DrGamez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Whenever it sees you browsing myspace it puts in a custom CSS declaration.
body: none; - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5So you're aware: Flock is not modified firefox.
Its merely based on the same engine. - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Umm, has anyone reading this even tried the normal Flock? This is basically Flock, but with no Flickr support. ???
Why not just download the regular Flock, and have both? - exipolar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5What's the big deal, flock can do this already with either Photobucket or flickr photostreams
- darthmdh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Photobucket are simply giving *their* users a web browser with added functionality (over IE) to assist using *their* site.
One could assume in the future other unwanted functionality could be stripped out; and users that want the whole schemozzle are welcome to download the original Flock.
This, I believe, was one of the original goals of Netscape opening their browser code almost a decade ago. Third-party vendors - in this case, Photobucket - could use that code to provide some specific functionality for their needs (with Netscape providing the kitchen sink) - Scatropolis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Ok, so it's a modified version of a modified firefox?
- enderu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Or better yet, strip the CSS from anything under the myspace.com domain.
- cope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2its both... it fileshares and hosts..
- slugicide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I've browsed Photobucket with Flock. There's so much garbage it hardly seems worthwhile. It's kind of like the results you get on the last couple pages of a Google Image search. That being said, I hope Flock integrates more services soon. And is Photobucket photosharing or photo hosting?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You seriously think TechCrunch is gonna run out of bandwidth?
- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3They're creating a browser with tight integration with flickr and bookmarking services among other cool things and you think it's a crap business model? Since when is building a better product a bad business model?
I assume you've come up with something better yourself? - hdofu, on 06/15/2008, -0/+0If thats true... why then can it run firefox extensions? Not every app with the gecko engine can do that.
- nonchallant0819, on 03/28/2008, -0/+0This is a great story... found this one through http://www.google.com

- MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Yeah, this was a mistake. It didn't load for me at first.

Photobucket is both. - Visceral, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Flock is a real gem. If by gem you mean turd that has no real business model or purpose other than to share your special blog thoughts or pictures. Because, you know, you're special, use words like web 2.0 and everyone wants to know about you.
- Hashim, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7I would love to see a version of Flock that makes MySpace browsing easier. It should auto-subscribe to the MySpace blog feed of everyone on my friend list, include a wysiwyg editor to design my custom overlay, prefetch from the photos page eveytime I land on someone's profile, and include a "always off" switch so I am not surprised by someone's music on their page.
