- saury316, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20IT SUPPORTS iSIGHT!!! YAYYYYYYY!!!!
- ultima301, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Honestly, Parallels has been the best $50 I've ever invested in Mac software. It was great back when it first came out, and even now the team is constantly improving and updating the software. Coherence mode is just amazing for integrating the two operating systems. Keep up the good work guys!
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12**This is from the Parallels support forum on how to install the iSight drivers**
The easiest way to get iSight drivers is:
1. Download and install latest Apple Boot Camp from http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
2. Browse to Macintosh HD->Applications->Utilities
3. Right-click the "Boot Camp Assistant" and select "Show Package Contents".
4. Go to Contents->Resources and click the DiskImage.dmg to mount it.
5. Find the "Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" and copy inside your VM.
6. Run the file. In a short while, all necessary drivers will be installed. Reboot and enjoy iSight - DigitalN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6does it support Vista?
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you'll die waiting
- mindsnare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Just downloaded and installed it. The Boot camp partition option is now usable and works great. I now have my full boot camp setup as my VM, and when I want more grunt I boot directly into windows, it's just perfect.
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5yes! now we need some graphic support for games!
- tolbs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I just downloaded the new release candidate yesterday and let me say that this is the most solid and significant release i've experienced. I am blown away with each release.
Improvements/New Features that make this update worth it
- Coherence Mode is a lot more streamlined. The switch from Windowed mode to Coherence is quick, nearly instant, with a neat little sliding door effect. Programs like my Vnc Viewer, Command Prompt, PuTTy, and my Work VPN Client, no longer show portions of the Windows desktop when minimized (something that annoyed me to no end).
- Each Windows application now individually appears in your dock. You can also keep that item in the dock so you can open your windows apps without accessing it via shortcut/start menu. You barely notice that you are running Windows at times (which I truely appreicate). I now use the Windows Version of Firefox as my primary browser on my Mac. That is truely odd.
- If parallels isn't open, you can click on the application in your dock and it will boot your VM. If you have auto-login enabled it will load your application when Windows finally boots in the background, nice touch.
- Improved Memory Utilization. Not sure why, but I am not getting as many Virtual Memory warnings as I was previously. I'm not sure why this is, but i'm not complaining about it.
- Previously, I could not access my Windows VM because Parallel's complained that it was in use, despite the fact that it wasn't. This is no longer happening, so I can appreciate that. - digginghacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Doesn't support vista installed on BootCamp yet, darn. Maybe next time, which for parallels will probably be in like seventeen seconds.
- tradingbrowsers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3best software for mac since sidenote
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Can anyone think of a way to like blast a Parallels image to a bootcamp partition rather than having to reinstall the OS (windows)?"
I don't think it's possible yet. My main problem is that boot camp is unable to repartition my drive. I don't want to have to redo my whole machine so I'm stuck without the boot camp option unless I can find a better non destructive partitioner. - Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kernel panics are fun though. ;) Actually, they still scare me. I don't like it when my mac crashes.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does this feature work properly with/for Vista?
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2flechdonkey, Yes!
/me asks a question
Can anyone think of a way to like blast a Parallels image to a bootcamp partition rather than having to reinstall the OS (windows)? - tsdguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, Vista runs fine except for the lack of 3D acceleration so no Aero special effects (big deal). Unfortunately, the "full USB suport" is not full. More devices are supports but some are still not depending on the type. Right now my Logitech IO2 pen (USB) still doesn't work - we've been complaining for a number of months. It's unfortunate since it's worked perfectly with VMWare Fusion initial beta version.
- digginghacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2tizz66: Does this feature work properly with/for Vista?
no.
you still can't open a bootcamp partition running vista with parallels
:-( - cbergeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. Parallels and the company behind them have it right. I paid for the product a long time ago, and they are continuously improving it. I helped them by buying it when they were small, and they haven't forgot about me now that they are [becoming] a big company.
It's nice to see Corporate America realizing the value of it's customers. I'm sure it's paying them more than dividends in return.
Corporate 1o1: Treat the people that give you money well, and you will reap the rewards (perhaps not immediately; but ultimately) - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah, Parallels is an outstanding program. I had some problems with the previous beta (one kernel panic and one sudden exit) so I hope this one is more stable.
- digginghacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3...you're retarded
- metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Could someone be a lamb and post a direct download to "Install Macintosh Drivers for Windows XP.exe" for those of us who don't want to bother with the Boot Camp download / installation?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The only kernel panics I have had in my year of Mac use have been from Parallels. I give the Parallels guys a lot of slack due to their almost breathtaking pace of development of this program.
- joel8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if this might work - use a program like ghost to back up the complete VM and then use ghost to reimage a boot camp partition.
- thbt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it work for XP for Bootcamp FAT partitions yet?
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even in the most recent beta, Parallels has been the easiest Windows installation I've ever had. You enter your Windows serial number in a Parallels dialog, insert the Windows CD, and it does an unattended installtion of Windows with no more questions asked.

How about the GParted LiveCD? (http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php)
Not only is it user-friendly enough to impress this Mac guy, it worked a treat for me on my Linux/Windows box, which has a seriously crazy partitioning scheme (NTFS system partition, Linux boot partition, a logical volume containing a swap partition and two ext3 partitions, plus a final, separate FAT16 partition.) I needed to resize and rearrange, and it handled it all flawlessly. That, and the price is hard to beat. - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Help me out here - I'm currently running XP on my MacBook with Boot Camp. Does this mean I can install Parallels to run Windows without reinstalling XP or any of my Windows apps?
- metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nevermind, the drivers file is 130 megs :)
- PointeBlank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Download here: http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/beta_testing/
- bigkm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've noticed with vpc that it made my ibook kernel panic every time i used a vm, so then i got some new ram and never had the problem again
- selkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I get this as well, funnily enough when i upgraded the tools and rebooted I didn't see it, but now I see it everytime I'm booting till about the loading screen. It doesn't stop anything, just looks a little annoying.
- cawpin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rice - I would suggest just ghosting the partition and then write it to the bootcamp partition. It is two steps but still a lot faster than reinstalling.
- chrism1128, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think I may actually get a mac book now. It's pretty impressive to be able to tell mac and windows fanboys both to shut up.
The fact is that they are both very useful systems (in their areas of strength) and the ability to be able to use all of the strengths of both at the same time is pretty cool. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.parallels.com/products/desktop/beta_testing/
- cbergeron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How well does that pen thingy work? I thought about getting one (about 3 years ago), but i've been waiting to see how the consumer market responds to them.
Does it do everything that the marketing hype said it would do back in 2003?
I'm seriously considering buying one (honestly). - Raz4Life, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wouldn't hold my breath...
- niemandanderes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0come on. does parallals really deny downloading the beta for europeans? i can't download the beat anymore. it works when using a proxy in the US. that's really annoying for me as i bought a copy of parallels. you are always f*$%$%ed when you buy proprietary software...
- jtsquared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is it normal for the "parallels tools initializing" message to stay onscreen for about a minute when you are booting the VM from a Boot Camp partition?
jT - markjanet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I keep having to go back to v3036. Everytime I tried updating to the later releases, I could not install Parallels Tools and either the video or the resolution changing did not work. Sometimes the thing would just black screen and I could not reboot. Good thing I copied my VM to a dummy location before trying the new versions so I could then revert to v3036.
- Anim8me2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Never mind... I was being so clever doinga google search that I never saw the front page!
DOH! - Anim8me2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Anyone have a direct link ot the download?
I have searched the Parallels site and just can't seem to find it.
Thanks - tsdguy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Yes, Vista runs fine except for the lack of 3D acceleration so no Aero special effects (big deal). Unfortunately, the "full USB suport" is not full.
