- scuzzman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+79Because, I believe, it's a far superior browser. YMMV.
- Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -3/+54Haha, wow, now I know a troll when I see one, but I'll bite.
I use Opera for several reasons:
1) I live and die by mouse gestures, which firefox doesn't have, and the plug-in doesn't rub me the right way. Also, when I was honestly trying to like firefox, it was the only thing that constantly crashed it in Suse 9.3. No gestures, no firefox.
2) Tabbing behaves better in opera. I just could never configure the kind of behavior I wanted in firefox.
3) Integrated mail. I get mail constantly, and nothing is easier than seeing a little notice in the system tray and clicking the side of the screen to get your mail. No load times, no nothing.
4) Trash can for retrieving closed tabs. I've used that more than enough.
5) Stability. And If Opera happens to crash (Which is does every now and again) I'm up and running again in less than 3 seconds with sessions.
6) Fun and exciting community. Even though opera is closed source, there is still a great community surrounding this browser. I personally feel it's even more tightly knit than the firefox community.
7) No plugins necessary. Opera does have extensibility built in for the modders out there, but I while many people use plugins as a selling point for firefox, I hate them. I've had to install Opera more than once on more than one machine, and I can't imagine instead installing firefox and then 50 plugins to get the same functionality multiple times. Not to mention once I have been able to get the kind of functionality I want, my browser was unstable and felt like Frankenstein's monster. Opera is just so streamlined; it can feel as functional or simple as you see fit, and that's just what I'm looking for in a browser.
I browsed with Opera even when it wasn't free; I felt it was worth every cent. Now, it's free, and I think everyone should give it a try at least once instead of dismissing it as an insignificant player in the browser race. - Jacob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+53Lots of reasons, don't make ignorant comments.
- 8^)Jung, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25This is by far my favorite web browser. It is the only one I know that truely follows W3C standards. It is faster than Firefox even though it has more features (which would make you think it is slower, but it isn't). Plus it isn't a resource hog. It even has a built in Bit Torrent client that works just like regular downloads so people who have no clue what it is can start using it.
Opera Mini beats the hell out of any web browser for your phone, smart phone, etc. Try that out too. - moxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22I thought this was already posted...I just switched over from firefox a couple days ago...I have been enjoying Opera...I like some of the features like the voice...good browser...
- Tochi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Dugg this for Mouse gestures... and the fact that I can move through picture links and galleries with simple forward and back buttons and mouse gestures. Makes surfing pr0n one handed very very easy.
- Somniis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Opera is far superior (in my opinion) to Firefox. No offense to FF, of course. :) It is a good browser.. just not to my tastes.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I've been recently testing Opera as my main browser and I'm liking what I see. It's a well-designed browser.
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I second the praise for Opera Mini. When the Blackberry browser can't display a website, OM can. And the back button works nearly instantaneously.
Still, I'm no big fan of Opera's featuritis. - Aurarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I love opera, I switched because firefox kept crashing way more than my liking..
- madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11there is 486 skins to chose from:

And if you can't find one you like, just make your own:
http://my.opera.com/community/dev/skin/ - KillerJ59J, on 10/12/2007, -8/+17Opera isn't bad, fanboy. I use Firefox, but I don't think it is Jesus. I've never tried Safari, but I think I would definently(sp) use Opera over Safari. Opera is quite fast and everything is built-in. Firefox(is supposed to be) minimalistic and customizable where Opera is a bit bloated, but it is still very customizable while also being lightning fast. The only thing Firefox has over Opera is being open source and extensions. Extensions, ftw.
Edit, I'm talking to sruffelman, not any of you others. :) I also use Firefox. - bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I've been using 9.1 for a few days now and the linux flash9 stability issues seem to be fixed.
- Tochi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Dugg this for Opera's Mouse gestures, very well done. That and the fact that I can move through picture galleries simply using fwd/back buttons or mouse gestures. Makes surfing pr0n while one handed very very easy...
- mxcl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10On Linux, Firefox is soooo slow. I use Firefox on Windows, Opera at home on Linux. Konqueror is mostly fast, but for instance, switching tabs has too much of a pause, back/forward is slow.
I'm talking UI speed, not rendering speed here.
Incidently, I blame GTK for Firefox on Linux being slow. The GTK people need to catch up with Qt for speed. - madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The one two days ago was the final:
http://digg.com/software/Opera_9_10_Final
The press release is from today. - terjet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Because it's a much better browser? Fast, all navigation can be done from keyboard, built-in ad blocking....
- moxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I was actually planning to use it as my second browser after this release, but then after using it and messing around with the options I liked it better. I like it design wise as well, the Firefox 2 default and all the skins that came with are nothing special...All in all, both are good choices from my experiance, but for myself Opera is perfect...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Are your keys so sticky that you managed to write the same comment twice?
- Ruffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Love opera, been using it since version 5
Tabbed functionality is better. even tho I done use it (turn it completely off)
Gestures work better. I've tried every gesture ext in firefox. they're all twitchy.
Popup blocker is fantastic and quickly modified/disabled
Quick zoom via gui or +/- key is a godsend. Especially at 1920x1200. Zoom entire pages, images, videos on the fly
Extremely customizable gui
Fast rendering, Real fast, Firefox is fast, Opera is on a whole different level.
Fast Javascript usage
No freaking memory leaks. I can open up 50 windows/tabs and leave them open all day without worrying about it running dog slow.
Smaller installer, All these features in a < 4MB File.
The website specific content blocker is easy to use and fast. Notice no banner ads in the pic below?:)
The site caching is great. Why reload a site you've already been to. Makes navigating foward and back between pages really fast.
Sessions are a godsend. They work exactly how they should. Something kills opera? You're back to all youre open sites instantly. Want to save a bunch of sites for later? It's 3 Clicks away
Heres a picture of my Opera setup

Notice I use a bar to place links/folder. You cant read the links because its not maximized. on a 24" Widescreen you can read them all.

- Noctem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Loving it. I don't think the changelog is nearly long enough, but Phishing detection is definitely a 'good thing' (TM). I keep up with the weekly beta builds. I've never looked back.
- JimmyD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ever since Opera had thier key codes to celebrate their aniversary a couple years ago, I've used this browser and have never gone back. This is the best browser on the market right now!
- LabThug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5At first I had to think about this. Opera gives me auto-update notices. Ever since upgrading to 9, the dialog said "9.10" instead of "9.1", "9.20" instead of "9.2" I thought this was old news. Anyway, I'm glad to see it's legit!
Go Opera, may the fat lady never sing for you :-) - atloose, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You are correct, this was posted several days ago. However, that story was premature as the 9.10 release wasn't availiable for download
- kazem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Opera is ridiculously fast for previously used websites...and this is very useful when doing research on a topic online since you keep going back to sites repeatedly. I like the "feel" of its interface over FF. And mouse gestures make me happy. But firefox works better with google's sites...so I end up using FF usually since I use google maps, gmail, and calendar far too much.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I love it for the SVG.
Firefox is still my primary browser because of extensions.
Opera rules for support of open standards
Opera is big on mobiles, and Nintendo DS and Wii - barktwiggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3According to the changelog for 9.1: Multiple stability issues solved, including crashes on Gmail and Google Maps.
I've tried out the gmail and gmaps and so far I haven't experienced any of the major issues I used to. There are a few minor things, but they're graphical and not browser crashing. - Raian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I may start working on a theme as a pet project-- ive gone through at least 100 of these themes and still haven't found one that blows me away--- they are mostly derivative, and mostly look like crap.
- EvilBaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's the only thing that upsets me about Opera. Some pages just don't support it for some odd reason. I was under the impression that Opera follows web standards. Too bad major web pages don't follow those same standards. Oh well, I just pop up FF on the few small occasions where Opera Fails me. Doesn't happen very often at all.
- Ravenlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Good news! Now can they please, please, PLEASE get Nintendo to release their embedded Wii version already? I was expecting to be able to browse the web with Opera from my couch before the New Year!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3opera is my browser of choice just becuase it has little features here and there which on there own arnt much but its adds so much to the browser overall.
i have a few browsers (opera, firefox,ie,netscape, flock[even thoigh it runs of ff]) to test sites when webdesigning and i find opera does render the pages better than other browers mainly becuase of its standerds support, though firefox's is improving slowly. - SvnX, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I use Opera has my 2ndary browser (not IE...). I do a lot or programming in Joomla and since Firefox 2, certain components won't work in the backend. I've found that Opera, with is W2C, let's me work with components that Firefox/IE won't.
So, Opera moves up as my 2nd browser over IE yet behind Firefox. - madeingermany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/910/

http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/info/?id=4934 - warriorscot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Because its better in allot of ways, it gets constant excellent reviews showing it to be better in ALLOT of ways, allot of firefox features people take for granted and use extensions to get are originally opera features, its very customisable you can alter it to suit your needs to a much greater degree without allot of knowledge. So the question is why are you using only firefox, and ignorant enough to think its the best above any others.
- LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, it wasn't officially released until today. Two days ago it was just put up so it gets to all the FTP mirrors.
- MadOgre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What is upgraded from 9.02?
- senfo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow. You guys are completely behind the times. I just got the notice to upgrade to Opera 90.2! ;-)

- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't mind the ignorance, not many people on digg differentiate between honest questions vs. ignorant comments. Yours was a question. Not a comment. There is no such thing as an ignorant question. And yes, because I say so.
- spacebar14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does it have HTML support for email now?
- Raider007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3wasn't this on the front page like 2 days ago?

- Fjinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good news! That annoyed me so much I had to use Firefox to view Flash content.
- potifar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, not yet. It will, though. When It's Ready™
- FLarsen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Receiving HTML formatted mail? Yes it does.
Sending HTML formatted mail? Not sure, didn't work with 9.02. Anyway, the mail client is excellent if you don't need to send that kind of mail. - darkdaedra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This is actually the 3rd time this story has showed up on the front page. Two days ago it made it to the front page, but it was not yet available for download. Yesterday it hit the front page when it was made available. Finally, this one makes it, although this one does link to the press release, which is *slightly* different.
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NFK! OMFG. The Flash Ads can stop - just use FlashBlocker - on a per site basis - for almost every browser (doesn't work in Mozilla).
