- leileilol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54Hi I created OpenArena and no one dugg my story when I released :(
Thanks though! Remember that this is an unfinished project that I like to release often because I'm not overhypy and shy. - seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -5/+38I dont think the author of this article emphasized the word 'Free' enough, so heres a little more:
This game is free. Free is what the game is. Did i mention its free? - pixelguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32I think we just fragged their server.
- TH3W1R3D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+311 word: Awesome.
- kitchensj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Ubuntu .deb available here http://www.getdeb.net/release.php?id=244
- IcedKirby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15If anyone wants to know how to change models in the game. Go to the "player" menu in the settings, then move the mouse under the model, a button should appear, click it.
Enjoy :) - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16nah, it's always been about the fragging. :-)
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16
1 word: Awesome.
Yes, thank id for releasing the source. Probably the most friendly gaming company in the business. Not greedy like Valve, who exploit modders like crackwhores.
Let this be a lesson to all game companies. - cypherpunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9openarena is a good idea. i just wish cheapalert would hold back a bit on injecting his creepy capcom character obsessions into every single quake project he touches.
- IcedKirby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8All right! Somebody make a Digg server!
- wounded625, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7sorry, the torrents i posted didn't work
heres working ones
isohunt: http://isohunt.com/download/16119628/OpenArena - gamemaster357, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8mirrors
http://mods.moddb.com/5727/openarena/downloads/ - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8PLaying on my MacBook.
Works great. dl the Linux tarball and then drop the ioquake3 app from the Mac download right into the OpenArena directory from the Linux build.
Execute the app from there.
frag it up! - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8*waves sawn-off*
I'm hijacking this thread, biatches!
Download links, offsite for bandwidth savings:

http://files.moddb.com/5276/download-openarena-060-linux-release/
Mac seems to be still in development, they've got some engine-only links (no game content) on their DL page. You figure it out yourself. - mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cross-platform > Warsow
OpenArena works on Macs. And we've had enough links to warsow in this thread already, dontcha think? - kimjustin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5to play full res on Macbook (or any other wide screen) go to folder /Users/*username*/Library/Application Support/OpenArena/baseoa/
find and edit q3config.cfg to
seta r_customheight "800"
seta r_customwidth "1280"
seta r_mode "-1" - tgiles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I found the location for the Mac OSX binaries:
http://openarena.ws/rel/060/oa060j1.zip
It was located in this forum message:

Enjoy!
tom - foobarra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5An Awesome Hour Wasted a-Fraggin!
- leileilol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They can!
- last337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Awesome!! I guess I can quit my job and join a clan again :)
- gnalakalaciath5, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11crap, sorry, digg me down as well.
- leileilol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5There are servers. Make sure you set your ingame server browser to "Internet".
http://dpmaster.deathmask.net/?game=openarena - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4cheapalert? you must have missed it, he's leileilol nowadays
yeah, i agree the art direction needs some work, but this is a helluva lot better than openquartz - bzImage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Mac binaries mirror
http://www.sharebig.com/d/stmwqpqik/08VA9d44572FAF706/oa060j1.zip.htm - codyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Urban Terror 3.7 loads fine under OpenArena... problem is joining UT servers in that they still use the real Quake3 and it wants a CD key even though OpenArena doesn't make you have one... also no punkbuster doubles the trouble....
Anyone wanna start an Urban Terror Open Arena Server :-) ? - r121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Might not work as-is, but it's open source, so it would only take a few modifications.
- gnalakalaciath5, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10you don't have to do the "slashdotte-" cut off thing anymore; digg is bigger than /. now
*runs and hides also* - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It uses the engine from http://ioquake3.org/ - if you have the original Quake 3 game - you can play it on your Mac. The graphics are very smooth (Mini 1.42 GHz).
This one here is also worth a look (free, not using the ID engine, it's the Cube 2 engine): http://sauerbraten.org/ - LeopoldStotch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Did i mention its stand alone as well : )
- IcedKirby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There probably is a way. Check out the settings menu.
- codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now I wish mods like Urban Terror could run on this...
- TimeDoctor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't forget the engine it is based on, http://www.ioquake3.org/
- tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2don't digg him down, i'm an idiot too and it took me a while. im sure there are others
- tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1linked page works for me...
http://openarena.ws/?about
but the home page doesnt (just logo)
http://openarena.ws/? - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that would be way useful...
- wounded625, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7im replying to this one so its seen.
since the servers seem to be kind of bad, heres the torrent on
isohunt: http://isohunt.com/download/16119548/OpenArena
piratebay: http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3586144
this is legally redistributable, so its not bad :-) - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there was a download on the openarena site (which is now down) for the Mac that included the binary for Mac. the disc image i downloaded was called oa060j1.dmg. it can be found here:
http://openarena.ws/rel/060/oa060j1.zip
when that was dropped into the Linux engine and executed it worked.
i even played a few games online. - chapium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There are some beautiful maps and models that were user created which look even better than what id produced. Most will probably work well.
- TimDub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, i like "diggattack." sorry, i think it needs that extra "a" in there to roll off the tongue properly.
as an alternative, may I suggest "DuggSlashFarked?" that would satisfy everybody. - DiZASTiX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just played a few rounds of deathmatch, works great under ubuntu. most people in there were from digg. whos "loldigg" cuz I almost took your second place! haha
- PcChip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Downloaded it, installed it, set it up, and joined a server and was kicking ass all within 5 minutes. Definately a digg, and everyone owes id software a big thanks for releasing the engine!
- dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1worked for me but the site loaded REAL slow.
- leileilol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yeah this was a very annoying and overlooked bug that was frequently reported since 0.4.1, it will be fixed in the next version
(it's actually fixed in the svn right now) - TimRogers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is what I call a fast paced game!
- dan2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1haha that was me, I had a nice low ping. Good stuff.
- renegadeafk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2pretty good but multiplayer doesn't seem to work, or there's actually no servers.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No there isnt from what i know. In settings you can change the resolution of the game to smaller, but it only adds blackbars around the gameplay. I cant even minimize it with the windows key...
- slackerbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wonder if this will run on the Xbox port. The game itself works but most mods don't appear to, given the machines limited amount of memory.
- tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1word. good find.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is there a way to open the game in a window?
