Dugg. - BossKey, on 06/11/2009, -24/+207I liked the Onion's comparison better
http://www.theonion.com/content/infograph/os_x_sno ... - t3rmv3locity, on 06/12/2009, -16/+19929$ for Snow Leopard if you have Leopard? I'm definitely upgrading...
- boozedrinker, on 06/12/2009, -8/+161Before you fanboys want to go into a ***** "which OS is better" tirade and 500 comment discussion, let me tell you that the only thing you need to remember is the last sentence of this article:
"........whatever one you pick, you definitely won't go wrong upgrading your OS this fall."
Now shut the ***** up and upgrade your *****. - Demos27, on 06/12/2009, -5/+147I'm waiting for the Mac vs. Windows debates, and then the occasional Linux user will say something and no one will pay attention.
- bbardlbradd, on 06/12/2009, -12/+116Recap:
Windows 7 is a ***** better than Vista, Snow Leopard though is somewhat better... and we don't really know what it's like yet.
Yours Truly, Gizmodo - piginawig, on 06/12/2009, -2/+83I think this is going to be a great year for anyone with a computer. As for the OS's, they are both great and I use them both.
- runeasgar, on 06/12/2009, -21/+90Except my update will only cost $29. How much will Windows 7 run? At least I don't have to pirate my operating system due to exorbitant pricing :)
- mostie, on 06/11/2009, -53/+119I want a mac. Stupid work and our stupid software.
- loneraver, on 06/12/2009, -12/+52it's the fiiiiiiianl countdown, *cue awesome synth solo*
- Charlie1er, on 06/12/2009, -13/+53I like it! A noticable speed upgrade at 30$ for my mac is cool. I will buy it for sure!
- MeltingIce, on 06/12/2009, -5/+45Its so cheap its almost like... why the hell wouldn't you upgrade? That costs less than most games these days.
- mrsteveman1, on 06/12/2009, -0/+36They can try, and that's what i expect for my money.
- MacEnvy, on 06/12/2009, -1/+36We may have a problem here, since I was under the impression that Apple designers couldn't possibly ingest any more drugs.
- cawpin, on 06/12/2009, -2/+36Yep, I'm definitely getting 10.6. However, Windows 7 is one kick ass OS as well.
- dagooh, on 06/12/2009, -2/+34What if you have a regular domestic cat, how much?
- wesl56, on 06/12/2009, -6/+36virtualbox - open source
- Elranzer, on 06/12/2009, -3/+31"That costs less than most games these days."
And we all know Mac users aren't spending their money on THOSE. - ethana2, on 06/12/2009, -3/+31I love my Ubuntu Dell more than I love my eMac G4 running Tiger, and I love my girlfriend more than both of them combined. My 9.10 alpha 2 torrent is at 95%, and my ratio is probably like 5 already! Ubuntu is really most of what I use bittorent for-- on my own internet connection that I pay for myself. The vast majority of my music is either paid for or CC licensed, legal either way.
Now let's argue about whether or not I exist. - Awezing, on 06/12/2009, -2/+30Reply button, thanks.
- MacEnvy, on 06/12/2009, -2/+26Pretty sure it was last year.
- MacEnvy, on 06/12/2009, -2/+26Hey, Red Hat 5 has the best implementation of YUM I've ever seen, and it's clearly superior for everything from building high performance crunching clusters to outfitting a 6 year old laptop.
/s? - runeasgar, on 06/12/2009, -7/+31VMWare works wonders.
- eadnams, on 06/12/2009, -3/+26Agreed, they both improve where they were required to.
Windows 7 is a larger leap, but from Vista, there was a lot more to 'fix'.
Snow Leopard is one of the largest changes to OSX ever, it's just mostly under the hood, so its not as sexy. - eadnams, on 06/12/2009, -17/+40I wouldn't call one of the largest architecture changes to OSX ever a service pack... besides, what would you call windows 7? It's still vista under the hood... I use both, and like both, but that's just a dumb thing to say.
buried for fail. - GeneralCoolman, on 06/12/2009, -14/+36Windows users ditching Vista for SL = Many
Windows users ditching Vista for W7 = Many
Mac users ditching? Psh, real fanboys don't ditch out on something. - whatit, on 06/12/2009, -4/+26There may be many viruses targeting Windows, but most of us don't ever catch any. It takes a retard to catch viruses consistently.
- MacEnvy, on 06/12/2009, -17/+39Not nearly as bad as $199 for essentially Vista SP-3.
(I know that that isn't true, but it's at least as true as 10.6 being a SP for 10.5). - Gndoab, on 06/12/2009, -5/+27I'm using win7 as we speak, and I like it. It is what Vista *should* have been from the get go. it's faster, more responsive (same thing? kind of, I guess), the taskbar has been redone, and the audio settings are much easier to deal with (I have a SB! Live external card. one of the 5 people in the world that probably have one. setting up on on win7 is so, so much easier that I almost wanted to call up microsoft and thank them for making their OS easy to use for once!). Have yet to experience a crash, although I don't game on my computer (at least not current games, so take that for what it's worth)
I don't really use macs that often, so I don't have much to compare to (I use ubuntu though, and almost anything is more of a pleasure to work with when dealing with hardware issues than linux), but I do like the result of MS in a ***** over how crappy vista was. they seem to turn out better products when their ass is on the line. - ariez84, on 06/12/2009, -33/+54In the past 5 years, Windows is actually cheaper to own than OSX. Oh and you also have to pay a premium on hardware. Forgot about that one eh fanboy?
- eadnams, on 06/12/2009, -6/+26then stick with leopard. problem solved.
- bradleyland, on 06/12/2009, -1/+21Is that a metric *****, or imperial?
- likeyehokwhatev, on 06/12/2009, -0/+20I AM UPGRADING MY *****!!!!
- Gndoab, on 06/12/2009, -2/+21I thought that was next year? ;D
- runeasgar, on 06/12/2009, -4/+22Yeah, why not just stick with Leopard?
Also.. what do you mean "just bought" + "around 2006"? Does not compute. - scruffles, on 06/12/2009, -1/+18Do you really want to restart your machine just to test a web site in IE?
- alpha88, on 06/12/2009, -0/+17Hah! A linux user with a girlfriend. I see what you did there.
- Gloony, on 06/12/2009, -2/+19Has anyone tried correlating the Apple Tax margin with the street price and availability of cocaine, LSD and ecstasy?
- jwdav, on 06/12/2009, -5/+22Make that 9 years - which is how long it took MS to release an OS worth buying after XP. So yeah, buying XP in 2001 and not upgrading for 9 years is definitely the more cost effective way to go.
- inactive, on 06/12/2009, -5/+21Apparently, only $50.
- beachtrader, on 06/12/2009, -8/+24>>Windows 7 - Can run on any PC you buy.
Isn't that what they said about Vista??? - stickypenguin, on 06/12/2009, -0/+15how did you draw that conclusion from this article?
- andrewbash, on 06/12/2009, -0/+15I don't think anybody was planning on shelling out any money to upgrade...
- bradleyland, on 06/12/2009, -0/+13I'm going with both. Yay for virtualization!
- CoreyTamas, on 06/12/2009, -4/+17I wish I'd seen that before wasting my time on the Gizmodo article. The onion says it all.
- sleepwalkers, on 06/12/2009, -1/+14Who gives a damn? If it works, I'd rather that both OS X and Win7 adopt things from each other.
- Zippo, on 06/12/2009, -3/+16Yeah, Apple really hit the pricing square on the nail for this one.
With Windows 7 being what Vista SHOULD have been, perhaps they should give all current Vista users 7 for $29. An "I'm sorry, let's still be friends" discount. - moo2u2, on 06/12/2009, -0/+13Dammit now I'm going to have The Final Countdown in my head for the rest of the day
- sandipc, on 06/12/2009, -6/+19considering snow leopard is intel-only and how long ago leopard came out, there shouldn't be too many intel tiger users out there anymore, I would think
