- philbutler, on 05/04/2009, -1/+19A superb idea for little kids who cannot yet read. A graphical interface and a walled garden approach to safety. I like it.

- fldigger, on 05/04/2009, -1/+13That is so cool . I want one lol.
- Maxamegalon2000, on 05/05/2009, -1/+12Gender? So there are certain sites boys should be allowed to visit but not girls, and vice versa?
- MikalYungHistri, on 05/05/2009, -0/+10You could also check out the Derek Zoolander Center. Its for kids who can't read good AND want to do other stuff good too.
- Maynza, on 05/05/2009, -0/+7I think this is actually a scheme nambla cooked up to index all the worlds children.
- crazlunatic, on 05/04/2009, -4/+11firefox is not that hard to learn :P
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -1/+8I approve. I grew up using Internet Explorer and I'm pretty sure I halved the lifespans of at least 3 of my family's computers.
- MMarquit, on 05/04/2009, -2/+7I'm not sure how I feel about this. My son is doing fine on FF...But it still looks like a fun place for kids who can't read.
- nicipillemer, on 05/05/2009, -1/+6Hi All,
I would first just like to thank you for your feedback and support. We at KIDO'Z really welcome your input.
There are just a couple of things about KIDO'Z that I would like to mention that I think you will find interesting.
KIDO'Z is a tool/platform that each parent can adjust according to his/her and his/her kids' needs. This is what's key.
Basically parents can decide exactly what content their kid can watch and surf from the internet. The whole idea is that parents can upload whatever websites and videos that they like into KIDO'Z, and can also decide which KIDO'Z content their kids can and cannot see.
We wanted parents to have the option of how involved they want to be with KIDO'Z - parents can be very interactive with KIDO'Z by adding new content, blocking public content, allowing only content that they approve etc or else they can safely let their kids have fun with KIDO'Z on their own.
The personalization variables such as gender or age, etc simply mean that the child will see content that is most relevant to him/her. And, this is the parent's choice if and how he/she wants to customize content.
We aren't trying to wall a garden - just to provide a great, fun, interactive tool that is also completely safe.
We hope that you enjoy KIDO'Z and continue giving us feedback.
All the best
Nici, KIDO'Z - jshhmr, on 05/05/2009, -1/+6I have the KIDZUI add on for Firefox. It's very cool it it keeps her from crap she doesn't need to see.
- mdaize, on 05/05/2009, -3/+7Why aren't kids out playing sports and socializing haha... They shouldn't be introduced to video games till at least age 12
- medlakeguy, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3lol
- quidpro, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Not the mascot. Just some image.
- DeusNova, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3I remember when I first used the world wide web in 95 on Netscape I think, I was only six...kids today have it easy!
- Genecalypse, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3howd that work out for ya
- linagee, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3"Just turn on your webcam so we can establish your avatar..."
- wrek, on 05/05/2009, -0/+3Actually, yes. It does prevent the 10 year old from doing anything else. If you install the Kidzui program itself, you can open the Locked Kidzui program and it prevents the kid from getting out of it completely. There's no way for the child to open any other program or install any software.
I have Kidzui locked installed and in the startup folder on a PC in my house. The kids can turn on this PC anytime they want and Kidzui will open and they click on their "character" and are free to browse anything they like. - Atomic1fire, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Either way its a decent rendering engine
(air is powered by webkit I think) - dsmx, on 05/05/2009, -1/+3I'm sure someone could come up with a extension for FF that does exactly the same thing.
- philbutler, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2I think Dean just took a pic of himself and put it there LMAO
- ultrafez, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2I spent too much time inside on the PC when I was young, and not enough time outside... and now look where it's got me - on Digg. 'Nuff said.
- philbutler, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Actually I tried to get the CEO of Flock to do it 7 months ago, and I tired to get Jimmy Wales to use the same function for Search Wikia so that kids would have a tool. Alas, Flock did not have time, Search Wikia is now dead, and KIDO'Z came up with the simplest and in the end most refined platform.
IE is experimenting with child safe stuff, as is FF likely to be doing. My problem is I just don't understand why they don't do it with all their massive funds. Maybe they don't care about kids only the target demographic here and elsewhere. - caltheos, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Less protecting my son then protecting my computer from my son. Give him the keyboard and the mouse and 15 minutes later he has reconfigured things even I had never seen before.
- medlakeguy, on 05/05/2009, -1/+3meh, people should stop trying to over protect their kids
- pamil, on 05/05/2009, -0/+2Why don't you come up with it? In the meanwhile, I'll use just this for my son. :) When the next good thing comes, I'll just migrate.
- m0rph, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Being that AIR's browser engine is WebKit based, this "browser for kids" will render pages better than most versions of IE.
- happyMensch, on 05/14/2009, -0/+1@wrek. That's awesome.
- happyMensch, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1I don't quite get it. What prevents your 10 year old from installing a different browser and doing whatever the heck he wants?
- GenerousLinus, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1The browser could simply prevent you from downloading executable files. Keep them on their own user account and have that be the only browser installed. I don't know about this firefox add-on, but I'm sure there's some sort of password feature so you can't turn of the extension.
- Dalif, on 05/05/2009, -1/+2srsly?
- damien1989, on 05/06/2009, -0/+1feel free to post it yourself then!
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -1/+2Just tell them to go outside in play in traffic. It will do them much more good than sitting at the computer reading the wikipedia entry on life the universe and everything.
- philbutler, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1Dalif, the give a ***** aspect flows much more deep than categorizing a platform in this way. Sure, some parents would use a black widow spider to babysit, but if there are parents who want to introduce kids to technology, particularly the Internet at a young age, then the right tool might be KIDO'Z.
I looked at this, and it is a very nice and simple interface. I should know, I have beta tested over 2000 or these things in the last 3 years. Kidzui, in contrast, is a very refined product too, but far too complex for very small kids and not designed for International audience.
As for reading and playing outside, I am with you 200 percent. But if and when little kids are introduced to the Web, it should be well thought out I know you agree. As for handing them FF or IE and yelling Yeeeehaaaaaaa! I think any parent who has half a brain might consider another alternative. Just my thoughts.
Always,
Phil - caltheos, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1Just got my computer back from my two year old son. He approves
- philbutler, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1Actually I think it means content like Malibu Barbie etc might be suggested for girls and vice versa ..okay a bad example, but that is what gender specific means.
- semperfidoordi, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1Omg I haven't seen this in YEARS!
- misterhektik, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1I remember having to figure out how to get out of the Packard Bell Navigator interface to access the internet.
http://toastytech.com/guis/pbnav35software.png - uberduger, on 05/05/2009, -1/+2Does anyone else find that thumbnail really, REALLY creepy? I wouldn't feel happy with my kids using a browser with that creepy mascot...
*Shudder* - quidpro, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1I don't get the "kids who can't read" part...once you're in and click through to a site it isn't as though the site's text disappears...my kids seem to like it.
- quidpro, on 05/05/2009, -0/+1It pretty much serves up all the sites I want my kids going to at this point, in a nice friendly frame. Chill the hell out.
- cated, on 05/09/2009, -0/+0Agree with others that this is a good starting point for kids to explore the Internet when younger.
- Dalif, on 05/05/2009, -1/+1Seems like a lot of people think kids are morons who need their every thought shaped and formed for them, so they don't have to even try, themselves. I mean, why not just let a kid go at the interweb at a normal browser, and participate in it, as an activity. Surely finding sites or apps online that are worth spending time on, with your kid, can't be that hard?
This is just another way for parents to not give a ***** while they are lulled into thinking their kid is merrily playing rose garden, while he's secretly learning how to produce and distribute midget pr0n.
Spend some time with your ***** kids, instead of relying on crap like this. Outside, inside, reading a book or whatever. Computers don't have to be big scary things that will ruin your kid's life unless it glazes their little eyeballs with fluffy pink cotton balls and happy green vegetable patches. - wrek, on 05/05/2009, -1/+1I much prefer Kidzui. Good luck though!
- Maynza, on 05/05/2009, -1/+1Haha yeah, progress is for quitters.
- inactive, on 05/05/2009, -2/+1"KIDO’Z is a Kid’s Web Environment that allows children to safely surf websites, watch videos and play games in an easy-to-use, protected environment."
FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
rage... /lose - inactive, on 05/05/2009, -1/+0I was introduced to video games from my brothers at like... age 4! (starting with Pokemon ofc ;>)
And now I'm smarter than 95% of the kids in my grade without even being a nerd
i mean seriously wtf lol
kids these days are a bit dumb don't you agree? - alittlestock, on 05/05/2009, -8/+0Your penis?
- linagee, on 05/05/2009, -11/+1Funny usage of pedobear, but inappropriate caption. A better caption would be, "I know which browser I'm going to use!" or "I have a new favorite web browser!"
