- havaslash, on 02/19/2008, -0/+8really impressive
- ventro, on 02/20/2008, -1/+8Man the comments section just blows away digg.
- Gabberwok, on 02/19/2008, -2/+9Definitely prettier than Digg... no political news yet though.
- Lutremi, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5Honestly, this is a brilliantly done website that will no doubt attract some users in the near future.However...having only news feeds decide what goes to the site takes away the community feeling that Digg has; as in, obviously there's going to be nothing like an interesting photo or list or any of the other obscure and interesting things that get front paged everyday here over there. Which CAN be a good thing, if your looking purely into news...or you could use a combination of both. I dunno. What I do know is that whoever made the site deserves some kind of award.
- estvir, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5This site is the most impressed I have been by one in a long time. This is how you launch a site, well thought out, incredibly polished, etc.. but it's really weird using the site, I constantly want to up/down vote the news stories and comments, stupid Reddit/Digg have ruined me.
- slsanity, on 02/20/2008, -0/+5Give the About section a read:

Interesting how it pulls together popularity from around the internet, rather than users voting. So instead of groups of friends on Digg determining what hits the front page the internet's news feeds does. - theangrybaby, on 02/20/2008, -0/+4For a couple minutes I was actually looking for the upvote/downvote thingy, then I learned that it was all automated by some "electric brain" (thats how they describe it), which basically ruined it for me. The reason I come to digg/reddit/slashdot is because they each have a community that thrives in different ways, and thats why you see different stories on each site. It just doesn't seem to have that with this site.
However...
That site looks AMAZING, and Digg could definitely copy a few things from them ;) - ventro, on 02/20/2008, -0/+4I hope they don't do that. Everyone has politics news. The tougher stuff to find is the non politics news.
- miketighe, on 02/20/2008, -0/+4First non-digg social voting site which has me excited. Very slick, it will be interesting to see how it holds up in the ring ;)
- ventro, on 02/20/2008, -0/+4I think the sites can coexist together. They serve different purposes.
- traphik, on 02/20/2008, -0/+3Saw the site design and instantly thought of injectiondesigns, the same guy who did that youtube player redesign on digg a while back.
- 3magine, on 02/20/2008, -0/+3not only that but it seems that the stories that make the front page are for the most part submitted by the elite "few". It also seems that the comment system has been ruined by the voting system, and the comments instead of being just comments, are becoming a contest of who can come up with the wittier one to gain more votes.
- estvir, on 02/20/2008, -0/+3You say that like it's a bad thing.
- FBMGriever, on 02/20/2008, -0/+3First and foremost, I love that design. Very hot. Great usage of AJAX as well. More importantly, I like how the whole buoyancy thing works. It's something new rather than how every site is essentially a Digg clone.
It should be fun to see where this goes. - ssapphires, on 02/20/2008, -0/+3Buoyancy Rating ftw!
- estvir, on 02/20/2008, -0/+2I think that's a pro, not a con.
- seanthebond, on 02/20/2008, -0/+2This looks really good. Despite being on Digg for a couple of years now, its really starting to fail me. I find myself going into the upcoming stories and digging through there to find good news, only to have it not make the front page. Plus I'm going to various blogs now to find BIG gaming and tech news that doesn't make it on the front page of Digg.
Maybe its the new algorithm, but lately, Digg has been failing me. - quomen, on 02/20/2008, -0/+2I miss the tech news of old.. Sigh RIP DIGG.
- estvir, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1He's the founder of the site.

http://www.newspond.com/about/creators/ - asuraci, on 02/20/2008, -1/+2Eh.... I disagree.
1. All collapsed by default.
2. Clicking one replaces the original comment, rather than simply showing it. This is especially bad when the original comment's location is farther up on the page.
3. See 2.
It's nice looking and all, woo AJAX and superfluous effects, but it's actually managed to be less usable than Digg's comment system.
That being said, it's great that they have such a good design (sans usability anyway), and their infinite nesting (I'm assuming) is pretty neato as well. - katiereardon, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1Nice site...watch out Digg!
- colonelbuckshot, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1It's very pretty and polished, but I'm sticking with Digg until they grow, improve their comments system and some other things
- 3magine, on 02/21/2008, -0/+1It's a bad thing, because it doesn't constitute a normal conversation anymore, but a race to the number of diggs. Everyone tries to outwit everyone and the comments become oversaturated with fake personification of thought as opposed to real conversation.
- Timdegreat, on 02/20/2008, -1/+2Ya, a politics section would help.
- inactive, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1If Newspond's comment system wasn't a broken piece of *****, I wouldn't be here using Digg's.
- bluegene, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1Pretty != efficient. Let's wait and see.
- MikeonTV, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1Do I need javascript turned on?
- Lutremi, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1How is that a bad thing? The comments themselves are like a subset of entertainment. This is actually why I go to Digg more than anything, to hear the input of other people and of course, humor relating to the subject. Memes, etc.
- phile50, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1Beautiful site with a great tech implementation
- crazydiode, on 02/20/2008, -0/+1no need to watch out IMO. Digg's content is user generated Newspond's is Not.
- johanm, on 02/19/2008, -2/+2not bad, no Scientology section though.
- florsignol, on 02/25/2008, -0/+0Yes, BECAUSE it's all based on AJAX. (remember the J stands for JavaScript)
- quomen, on 02/20/2008, -1/+1So you're first defending digg's comment system, then bashing it? I see..
- jamesjimmy, on 02/19/2008, -3/+3I want that software... Wow...
- Lazza72, on 02/23/2008, -0/+0Newspond just recently added a RSS feed: feed://www.newspond.com/rss/main.xml, although it is only for the front page.
According to a blog post: http://www.newspond.com/blog/, there will be more.
I actually think that the Newspond interface is nicer than RSS. - hecatomber, on 02/20/2008, -0/+0nice, but there is no RSS feed yet.
- Lazza72, on 02/22/2008, -0/+0No, it's all based on AJAX, I believe.
- Lazza72, on 02/22/2008, -0/+0What I love about it (for now) is that there is no ads!
- asuraci, on 02/20/2008, -2/+1Thanks for destroying my comment edit time after I refreshed, Digg! (And thanks for destroying my comment when I put a heart smiley thing. Might be FF3 though. Trying this again...)
Regardless, it gets my digg for pushing the envelope quite a bit. It's the new kid on the block, and it's the only one that seems to still be alive (a new digg comments system would have been nice a few months ago, y'know [yes I know it's coming :)]). Hopefully they'll fix their comments system, though. - bluedig, on 02/20/2008, -5/+2Newspond,
This type of spam might work on other site but not on Digg. Your design looks good, but there no "extraordinaire" about the content.
