"This feature is currently only enabled for a limited number of users. We're working on making it more available soon. Look for it in the 'Accounts' tab in Settings."
My account, is apparently not one of them.
edit: ...although, this is a really amazing new addition!! Web based pop3 email client?!! I am Very excited!! - tormod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+54As soon as this feature is activated on my account, I won't need to log in to half a dozen web interfaces each time I check my mail on public computers.
Keep up the good work, Gmail Team :-) - psilanthropist, on 10/12/2007, -12/+60I dont get it. How is this a new feature. I have 5 gmail accounts and 2 yahoo mail accounts and I've synced them all to a single gmail account.
Just check in the forwarding and POP tab of settings. both yahoo and gmail can forward all mail to another id. and using the accounts tab, you can make it look as if the id which the mail was sent to is the replying id instead of the central one.
EDIT: i guess its usefull for people with ids that dont support forwarding. - forcedfx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@rompom - You can do this already. Set your other 2 Gmail accounts to forward your mail to your main account.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15HTFU Google, i've wanted this for ages!
- timxpx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11i think i just read 55 of the same comment over and over again.
- TonyCubed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Gmail is in Beta for a reason, and new features being added all the time is one of them. Why should it really matter? We get a great web based email client, it's free, and we get new features for free too!
- samd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Oh my god! It is NOT automatic email forwarding. And it is NOT gmail for your domain. And it is NOT send email as. These have all been around for a while.
This NEW feature allows you to aggregrate email from other accounts within Gmail. So for instance your work email, or your uni email could all go in there. This means Gmail offers Outlook Express/Apple Mail style functionality. - ldavid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11maybe this is why gmail is still in beta? lol...just an excuse..but i don't really care if it is in beta...I have a gmail account that I can use so it doesn't really worry me..
- psilanthropist, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15@rompom7:
do you ever read the comment above before posting ? - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10For anyone who has this feature:
Does G-Mail keep each account's mail seperate, or does all the mail from your other accounts get dumped into your main mailbox? I'd gladly use it if each account had its own inbox, but I don't want to throw all of my other mail into my g-mail mailbox. - Ensnared, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8No. In fact, it's exactly the opposite ;)
- holdemcharts, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is so great. I only have a 10 MB GoDaddy Free account which is constantly filling up. This way I can get them sucked directly into my 2.8 GB Gmail account.
I love GMAIL!!! - ubuwalker31, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8This feature allows you to manage all of your mail from gmail's web interface. So you can READ YOUR MAIL FROM GMAIL!!!! If you use the "send mail as" feature, you still have to check your other mail account. Now, you can use both features instead of using other accounts. Thats why people are excited. And your dugg down for podcast spamming.

"I dont get it. How is this a new feature. I have 5 gmail accounts and 2 yahoo mail accounts and I've synced them all to a single gmail account."
I don't know about you, but for my yahoo id, all forwarding is disabled. It says they are premium features(read paid).
"
POP & Forwarding
Upgrade to Mail Plus so you can:
* download your Yahoo! Mail in an email client, such as Outlook
* forward your Yahoo! Mail to a different address
"
Based on this, I am guessing even if the new feature does come to my Gmail account(I don't have it yet), I cannot use the feature? - JeremyBanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm not going to be using this for reciving email for other accounts (as other have said, forwarding works fine), but rather for importing old messages from old accounst I don't use anymore. I've got hundreds of old messages sitting in my old account that I don't want to get rid of, and this could solve that problem.
- F399SF, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Jesus CHRIST get a clue already, people!
- ccannell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I don't think you understand what this feature is. Did you read the article. The feature is for checking mail from other accounts. What you've shown in your picture is the standard send as feature. This new feature allows you to check mail from other accounts directly (you don't have to forward your mail from those accounts to gmail).
- boxc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5google spam filtering on my crappy legacy accounts .. pleease
- danirvin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5OK so how do I become one of the chosen to have this
feature? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I think the problem is that while the from field can be customized in the header of the email it will still say it is coming from gmail, which shows up on PC outlook clients prominently.
- rocke86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Great idea, now you will be able to get home and work email in the same place. No outlook or other clients required and no having to sign into multiple websites, just do everything in GMail from anywhere!
- samd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This is a new feature! You havent had it for about a year! It is to get mail from OTHER accounts within your gmail account. It is not the same as the POP3 for your own Gmail account (i.e. for using a desktop client or whatever) and it is not the same as automatic forwarding (which moves mail away from your Gmail account).
- forcedfx, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9You need to go back and read the article. GMail does not do this currently.
- grubesteak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Awesome. Now I can get spam from other accounts in my gmail account as well. Woo hoo!
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6There's a difference between forwarding e-mail from an account to Gmail and receiving it directly. Basically, this means that you don't even NEED to setup e-mail forwarding to get e-mail to your gmail address.
Also, another really cool feature (i don't know if it's new or not) is that I can now send mail AS OTHER E-MAIL ACCOUNTS. All the power of Gmail for all my e-mail accounts is pretty darn spiffy. - aggybong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The amount of people who can't tell the difference between "Send Mail As..." which has been there forever and "Get mail from other accounts..." which is brand new is quite staggering. It's not the same, guys!
Yes, some pop accounts have automatic forwarding, but my national ISP doesn't, so this is indeed a great feature. It will be even greater if they support other web based e-mail places without e-mail forwarding (I'm totally looking at you, Hotmail). - xosseh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4What you used was probably called "automatic forwarding" - and not GMail's automatic forwarding, but you other accounts' automatic forwarding.
- RyanSK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just logged in, looks like I have it. I, too, have wanted this for quite some time, and it already appears to be pretty handy!
I've got a bunch of different email addresses, and try to keep them separate. I use Outlook Express for one of em; now I can ditch it for Gmail. - raharu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5mmm, what I do is to forward all my mail to gmail, so I get all there. Besides, gmail has an option to send mail as another account, and by default, if you receive a mail from one external account, and you reply it; the From: label is set to that external account...
I mean, I don't see any differences between what I'm doing now and what they are offering. :P - aresef, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have forwarding on my school email, so this doesn't really matter to me. Cool new feature though.
- hcetrepus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Always someone in every crowd whos been there, done that and pissed further than anyone else. My curiosity arises due to their need to tell the world about it
- hotpepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3About time. I've been waiting for this for 2.5 years! Yay!
- traherom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@masamunecyrus
I don't know for sure, but I'll bet that they all come in to the same inbox. However, you could set up a filter for each "To" address and label them appropriately (and even have them bypass the inbox if you want), which would accomplish what you want. - timjbart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have added a separate pop3 email address to gmail, but how do I make it to get all the mail from my mail server? Where do I input my server address and username/password?
- mikejeffs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Many people are missing the point. The advantage of this new feature is that you can RETRIEVE email from non gmail sources. This is in addition to other gmail accounts, changing the "From" field etc.
- hitkaiser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It works,
ive synecd my uni's IMAP4 email into my gmail ,works like a charm - pvdnyc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2OK, here is my problem: I have 2 gmail accounts - my main account (the address of which identifies me by name): let's call it "main@gmail.com," and a second account (which does not identify me by name) call it "second@gmail.com." I also have an email at work (me@work.com).
Here's what I did: I sent an email from me@work.com to second@gmail.com. It showed up in main@gmail.com account [that's great!!]. Then, I replied to me@work from within my main@gmail.com account, but "from" second@gmail.com.
Here is the problem: when I check the reply from second@gmail.com in my work inbox, the from line reads, "from main@gmail.com on behalf of second@gmail.com."
This sucks. when I send an email from my second@gmail.com account through my main@gmail.com account, I don't want the recipient to know about my main@gmail.com address. I only want them to think that it came from my second@gmail.com address and know nothing about my main@gmail.com address (or that it even exists).
Is there a way to set it the way I want it?
I hope that I am missing something and that all you whizzes can set me straight...
HELP! please! - timjbart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeh thanks, I don't have 'Get mail from other accounts' option.
Ignore me - ctomasi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Since when does including a reference to something constitute spamming? Geez!
Everything you said ubuwalker31, about getting all your accounts consolidated to the web interface is already there. That's what I was talking about. No client, no special software. I've got five separate (gmail and non-gmail) accounts all pulled to one central place and I can send, forward, or reply to a message and have the header indicate that it's already there.
from reading the help file, they made it a little simpler (some may argue that fact). - Jerode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Remember that some free accounts still require you to log in a certain amount of times to keep it activated.
Keep up the good work Gmail. - shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Will Gmail's spam filter work for my new incoming mail? Because every other non-Gmail account I have is loaded to the brim with ***** every day.
- Vryz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Peoples,
THIS IS DIFFERENT THEN CHANGING THE FROM ADDRESS.
If you do that, in many email clients, it will show a message like 'this message may not be from who it says' and if they receiver looks at the full headers they will see your original email address, NOT just the 'from' address you set. If you actually use the original POP server to send the message, these problems go away. - jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The difference is you can now get gmail to retrieve your years of old email from your other email accounts. They obviously didn't want to roll this out when gmail started because it people like me would be instantly filling up their 1 gig of storage (and legitimately too :P)
- JuyLe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Good idea, I won't use it, but really great innovation nonetheless. I'm happy to be a gmail user !
- aggybong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think you are confused. This is definitely a new feature, and is NOT the same as "Send mail as.." which has been there for quite a while.
- Cowtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Awesome! I've been waiting for this for a long time. Now I can convert all those stubborn users of hotmail and isp emails that they never want to leave. Just more proof that Google is taking over the world..... hopefully
