- Eyeooga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Do I really have to backup my data once a year?? That seems like an awfully lot...
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm sorry, I have far more important things to do than clean my computer up.
...like refreshing Digg every three minutes. - diggapleeeze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4On a mac, in finder, click view>view options. Then you can have all desktop icons automatically snapped to a grid and you can choose font size for the labels.
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"Tidy your desktop, leaving only devices"
Why even that? After clearing out my desktop there is nothing left. It is pretty messy at the moment, GNOME does a terrible job at organising stuff when I save it to the desktop, it tends to put them in fairly random places. - garrettnb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3oh man, i really hope this kbandy is joking.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@ ahill7: I would have mentioned that it was based on OS X, but figured that the same things apply to any OS.
- diggboredmerlin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Some good ideas in there. Although, i think he could have added cleaning up the bookmarks folder and system tray.
- mattknow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just cleared my inbox today,
It's a really good idea
(I think the email clearing is called Email Bankruptcy (as named by Leo Laporte and Others)). - spisska, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Yeah, it's for Mac. Because if it were for MS Windows, it would also have to include:
Perform full AV scan;
Perform full Spyware/Adware scan;
Remove (or at least try to remove) unused applications;
Delete temporary files and internet cache;
Go back and manually delete all temp files and internet cache files that automated tools refuse to delete;
Perform full disc defragmentation;
Backup and repair/optimize registry;
And reboot a couple more times just to be sure. - ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Good writeup for OS X users, some of the things apply to Windows or Linux, but i agree with jimmj43 that the article description could have mentioned something to that effect.
- diggdong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is next in my priorities to "practice drinking" for new years.
- koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not just for Mac users... it's about cleaning up your system, regardless of what OS you're using. Instead of iTunes playlists, think WinAmp playlists or whatever.
- jimmj43, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's for Mac users. Would it be out of the question to include that little trifle in the intro?
- Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This guy Neil also consistently posts crap on every single Digg article of mine - along with others such as Phill Ryu and anything to do with MyDreamApp or MacHeist..If you hate it all so much, then stop wasting your time commenting.
- sixty6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't know why, but last week I actually took time apart to clear out all the spare stuff I had on my desktop. Guess it must have been a natural habit for most desktop users
- zzap, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7Awesome!
- ktwoart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If that's the case, you might try building a fresh Virtual Machine this year and keep it around as a pristine environment.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Where do I go to clean out my iTunes playlist in Solaris?
- scotsman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know where this guy got his HD icon and backdrop from? i love both of them:

S - pjdoland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The HD icon is Statoo.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There's a few posts along the lines of:
"OMG I just spent a gazillion dollars on a new digital camera and now I need to justify my purchase, so here's a photo of a post"
I almost forgot about your blatant image ripping from Flickr too... - tmv32, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Good article
- indraneel24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2yo neil, digg doesn't control what links you click on. the mydreamapp stuff is in production. and just cause he has nice things as a teenager doesn't mean you should pick on him. piss off.
- kbandy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Every New Year's Eve, I reformat and reinstall my Windows desktop. I find that this does a great job of cleaning my system :-)
- thepeted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This blogger clearly needs to get out more! Sadly this appeals to my OCD side though..
- grawil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Am I the only one wondering how ~500 people could find this 'software' news? It all seems pretty obvious.
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol @ telling me what to do with my computer because it's a new year..
- Kratos76, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Put it in the mac section dude.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I wouldn't post replies like that if people stopped submitting rubbish like this to digg. It's in the news category and all you really seem to ever post is those ridiculous lists of really, really obvious things. This is not news and I will bury each and every article like it, whether it is written by you or anyone else.
As for MacHeist, I buried all of that because it was ADVERTISING - no two ways about it. You can wrap up software in any way you like but as soon as someone posts an article about how to BUY the thing then that's when it gets the lovely thumbs down for spam from me.
Oh, by the way, where are those winning applications from "My Dream App"? - Technopundit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Man, you gotta find a girl.
- Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hah, I wrote this post at around 11PM last night, so I couldn't go out ;-) I spent the day shooting images so that also kept me busy in the post production department.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2This guy is a mong. He constantly posts articles littered with spelling and grammar errors about how we should "clean up" our digital and physical lives.
You really do have to be an idiot not to have thought of any of this stuff. In fact, it should be something you're doing constantly, not just when some kid with a blog tells you to. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at internal-db.s1027.gridserver.com. This could mean your host's database server is down."
Lame. - chapium, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Definately a weakness. Windows does a better job of keeping icons aligned and keeping filenames at a clean size.
- Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1All my posts are obvious list posts? I suggest you take a look at my blog (not just the stories you find via Digg) and see it's not all obvious material.
- arjayl642, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0*Insert Windows defense here*
*Insert Mac rebuttal here* - swiki, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2what is a dock?
- Eyeooga, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4he has a mac osx system, so no system tray or bookmarks folder. The guy's not a total idiot, that's why he doesn't use windoze
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Haha...cleaning your computer for New Years... So lame.
