- daveisfera, on 05/27/2009, -2/+93How about they add multi-person video conferencing?
- bmatherlyjr, on 05/27/2009, -10/+85Now if they would just stop treating Linux like a step child, I'd be happy.
- thefourcast, on 05/27/2009, -3/+52Skype is quickly becoming the go to medium for internet communication.
- LoudMusic, on 05/27/2009, -0/+40What about conference video chat?
- arunforce, on 05/27/2009, -7/+29But Linux is a step child!
- djAnakin, on 05/27/2009, -0/+18Who gives a ***** about screen sharing. How about conference calls... ie, cam with multiple people at once. It's all I've wanted since I first started using it. Maybe I need to find a new app.
- arunforce, on 05/27/2009, -0/+18No, but Google does. =]
http://www.google.com/voice - Wargala, on 05/27/2009, -0/+14Free? No. But you CAN get on their program that allows you to call land lines for one flat rate, I think it's about 2 bucks a month.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 05/27/2009, -0/+14Only $2.95 a month though and you can anywhere in the US and Canada with unlimited minutes!
- arjunprabhu, on 05/27/2009, -1/+13no
- Raider007, on 05/27/2009, -1/+12did you even read the damn thing? it's even in the description, the mac version has been out since January...
- Mizzike, on 05/27/2009, -2/+12...and a red-headed step child at that!
- king_aaronj, on 05/27/2009, -0/+10If we just sat and appreciated everything, companies wouldn't know what features consumers want. Also, take your stfu attitude and improve it or nobody will ever listen to you.
- RutgerB, on 05/27/2009, -0/+9When will SkypeIn come to the Netherlands!
- mandarin, on 05/27/2009, -0/+8Uh oh.... better stop watching porn while using skype..
- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -0/+7Reading is fundamental.
- DulcetTone, on 05/28/2009, -2/+8Neanderthals don't understand VOIP, silly.
- mathcreative, on 05/27/2009, -0/+6I wonder if they could make the software open source, and just sell the service.
- MindTrigger, on 05/27/2009, -0/+6I really liked Skype. I used ICQ since practically day one and it's just become garbage. Skype has a lot of great features. I love that you can edit your most recent IM. :)
- damnshoes, on 05/27/2009, -2/+7Does Skype still offer free phone calls to landlines? or am I too late? :/
- darkNiGHTS, on 05/27/2009, -1/+6I'm personally a fan of Google Video Chat, but this is pretty cool. It will probably make me use Skype more, especially for the tech illiterate friends.
- Squipo, on 05/27/2009, -0/+5Wonderful. When all I want is PTT.
Damnit. - 818digg, on 05/27/2009, -0/+5It's interesting to see Skype evolve. Maybe one day they will actually live up to their billion dollar purchase price.
For those commenting about multi-party and push to talk along with application sharing, the application i know of that does it is iVisit. http://www.ivisit.com/ - skate3214, on 05/28/2009, -0/+5Oh really? TightVNC, UltraVNC.....BOTH FREE
- gepetos, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4iChat had that option since the beginning. I'm surprised Skype just added this on (not bashing).
- Delita, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3Ovoo can do up to 3. Skype, as the better software, needs to follow suit...
- rnawky, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3News flash, GotoMyPC didn't come up with desktop sharing.
If anything, it's just a remote desktop protocol, which can be achieved with VNC, Windows Remote Desktop, Adobe has something for it now, and the list goes on.
The only thing it does is let you access your PC from anywhere by tunneling your connection through port 80 so you can use it where places block almost every port.
It's a pretty big rip off IMO. I think you can setup VNC to run off port 80 so to me, it's a complete waste of your money. - pooper0, on 05/27/2009, -0/+3dugg for ranga comment
- seenxu, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3great feature! but when it will be ready for linux?
- gitboxgreg, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3we're still on version 2.0.0.72 :(
- gavintlgold, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3I'm a little confused--does this allow the other user to move your mouse, or is it just a display?
- rnawky, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3Yes please.
- zzzBrett, on 05/27/2009, -0/+3You still need some kind of phone line with google voice, though. It just connects the call for you.
- masterc, on 05/28/2009, -1/+4I don't know if I had some kind of beta or something, but Skype for Mac has had screen sharing for a while now.
- tk0680, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Have they re-added the "Send Contacts" feature? That was genius and they inexplicably took it away with Skype 4.0 (which is HORRIBLE compared to previous versions, kthx).
- gordigor, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2I hate skype. Where's the 64 bit version api?
- PopcornDave, on 05/27/2009, -1/+3Phone sex orgy?
- karlw, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2As soon as they don't need 30 plus builds to support every linux distro, then they could focus on screen sharing.
- zdiggler, on 05/27/2009, -3/+5just video chat with out using voice be nice too.
- FIip, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2TokBox does video conferencing.
- damnshoes, on 05/27/2009, -0/+2:/
thanks - KrayzieKyd, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2just use stickam
- ajsmth, on 05/28/2009, -1/+3But can it play Crysis?
- sirclown82, on 05/28/2009, -1/+3So is this a free rip-off of GotoMyPC or whatever it is called?
- Edgers, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Anyone find this ironic it shares the front page with the recent cracked.com article on inventions that were meant to change the world?
- dasbacon, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2ADD SPELL CHECK!
- MMaster23, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Well .. Skype isn't really a medium. Voip is, email is, wirting poo in your browser over HTTP is.
Skype is just voip .. but on a closed platform. It isn't a medium. - KrayzieKyd, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2let me sign up for google voice real quick.... oh wait....
- tbob19, on 05/28/2009, -0/+2Okay now they just need to bring back the 3.x interface and it will be great again.
