- nmanguy, on 10/19/2008, -10/+66I'm still going to use Firefox.
- cjnkns, on 10/19/2008, -3/+37Linux version please!
- LifeIsARhythm, on 10/19/2008, -6/+32they need to fix flash. youtube crashes chrome 75% of the time.
- Tippx, on 10/19/2008, -3/+27I hope i live to see the day Chrome comes out of beta
- crushfan, on 10/19/2008, -11/+29Firefox is on its way to become an OS, with all those add-ons and stuff.. Even Firefox's fresh install feels bloated to me after using Chrome since the day it was released. Chrome reminded what's important about web browsing to most of the people and it's not going hardcore on customization. It's just my opinion though, I've always been a man of a few add-ons in the days I was using Firefox.
- thecosmicpope, on 10/19/2008, -1/+18It is a Google Product. Hell, Google Earth is still beta.
- bennyshoham, on 10/19/2008, -4/+19Guys, Chrome has new versions all the time, but it's not auto-updating. (I know, it's stupid).
Get the latest version. they fixed tons of bugs. - analreceiver, on 10/19/2008, -3/+17If/when Chrome gets Adblock Plus then I might consider it a contender.
- dimizzz, on 10/19/2008, -2/+14I tried Chrome, and liked it. The reason I won't use it though is exactly the lack of add-ons. Once you start using gestures, you can't go back.
- PGPirate, on 10/19/2008, -4/+14It will take alot for me to move to Chrome.
- plunkettt, on 10/19/2008, -0/+10Yeah, cause you know, IETab is everything everyone ever wanted for their non-PCs.
- domness, on 10/19/2008, -0/+10Hey! Google is still in Beta! Never mind any of their releases.
- Zakalwe2, on 10/19/2008, -8/+17Chrome is great until you try to watch video. Then it crashes, and not just that tab, but the whole browser. Firefox 3.1 beta is very quick and no video issues. Chrome is a beautiful browser, but it's too buggy.
- scarwars, on 10/19/2008, -0/+9The day it comes out of beta is the day they'll rename it to Google Rust
- Lorddias, on 10/19/2008, -4/+13The crappy flash plugin is the only reason I don't use this. If/when chrome actually works with flash, then I'll get it.
- bennyshoham, on 10/19/2008, -1/+10Hello, Digg has a Tech/Software section, It's not all elections and funny videos...
- counterplex, on 10/19/2008, -0/+7The hosts file might be easy enough to modify but Adblock Plus gives you auto-updating filters and a higher-level operation where you don't have to worry about the implementation.
- FBMGriever, on 10/19/2008, -2/+8All Chrome needs is AdBlock and Firebug for me and I'm set. I love Firefox just as much as the next guy but I really do enjoy the simplicity of Chrome.
- MrRobotoSki, on 10/20/2008, -0/+5If they can get going with some add-on's I would consider the switch just because of how much faster Chrome is compared to Firefox.
- AirRaven, on 10/19/2008, -3/+7Really?
I've only ever seen a video crash it once, and even then- all it took was reopening the tab in question to fix the problem.
It didn't even freeze- let alone take down the rest of the browser along with it.
I've been using it as my main browser since release, and it's crashed on me a grand total of once. It loads in a heartbeat, does just about everything it's possible to do faster than Firefox, and its web app functionality's second to none.
It'd take a lot to get me to switch back to the creaking mess that's Firefox on Windows. No matter what people may say, XUL's a half-assed basis for Windows programs. The menus fail spectacularly under Windowblinds, for starters. (Niche complaint, I'll concede. But even so. =) - papalock, on 10/20/2008, -1/+5I don't use Windows, therefore I don't use Chrome!
Sorry Google, but without a Linux/OSX port I don't know what Chrome is - LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/20/2008, -0/+3Actually, it isn't as robust at handling flash you want (youtube) vs. flash you don't (adspam). So now, it's not just as good.
- AMSRay, on 10/19/2008, -3/+6Not until they have IETab and synchronized bookmarks between PC's. They also should have the ability go back to a normal default iGoogle home page if you like that better than the folders view. It's still way too basic and lacking in features for it to be my main browser. I play with it some because of the raw speed, but I think Firefox will catch up to them in speed with the next release.
- cgoff, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2I've been running Chrome since the beta appeared and have yet to see Youtube or any flash player crash.
- counterplex, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Definitely worth a whirl. What does that do on e.g. youtube tho where you're actually interested in some of the embedded content? And "click again to show everything" isn't the answer because the purpose of adblocking is to be selective - not an all or nothing approach.
- carlosos, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2The HOSTS file you will find probably on any OS that supports TCP/IP (the protocol used on the Internet). That file was used before DNS server existed.
- KineticShampoo, on 10/19/2008, -0/+2Truth be told when Chrome has bookmark syncing between different computers I'll switch 100%.
Give me what I want Chrome! I'll love you long time. - UKsHaDoW, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2I like how this proves that its not just apple fanboys that say arrogent things. Look in the mirror.
- inactive, on 10/19/2008, -3/+5I hope your face gets stabbed with an acid fork
- soBoredinNJ, on 10/19/2008, -1/+3Why not just use privoxy (privoxy.org) for blocking ads?
I stumbled across it amongst other arguments of chrome not supporting plugins/adblock. I've been using it for a few weeks now and I think it works great. The best part of it is that it works globally across all browsers with no additional setup other than pointing your browser to a local proxy.
After rereading my post, I realize it sounds like I'm only advertising privoxy which is not true. I'm just tired of reading complaints about lack of AdBlock support when there are other methods available. - halofr34k, on 10/19/2008, -3/+5there's this thing, it's called the HOSTS file(for windows at least), all you have to do is modify it to block the ad sites.
Just go to google type in "host file", and click on I'm feeling lucky. - ronaldmonster, on 10/20/2008, -4/+6Somethings Chrome needs to do if it wants to get people to convert.
1. A damn Linux port, I don't use Linux alot but I know that it's awkward to abandon a platform they are trying so hard to push into the market.
2. Live bookmarks, it's the only reason I keep Firefox around.
3. Plug-ins. Do I need to say more? - Atomic1fire, on 10/20/2008, -1/+3Privoxy is like a ultra adblocker, since it blocks ads on all the browsers (as far as I know)
- RipleyIsDead, on 10/20/2008, -0/+2Adblock also allows you to quickly unblock ads, which I've had to do periodically to get a site to work properly.
- counterplex, on 10/19/2008, -3/+5The bloat you feel might have to do with the speed difference apparent between Chrome and Firefox. Have you tried the 3.1 beta? I'll try it out in a VM tomorrow but I've heard it's got the speed department covered.
Don't knock the plentiful plugins available for Firefox though since they're the source of a lot of Firefox's power and popularity. - Technoviking, on 10/20/2008, -1/+2Great, so when can I have it?
- Giever, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1Chrome felt noticeably slower to me than my Firefox.
I tried them back and forth on some sites I'd never gone to on either browser and Firefox loaded way faster each time (rendered faster too).
I don't see this blazingly fast speediness most people are talking about. Chrome is so bleh to me, it's slower than Firefox for me and has a small fraction of the handy things I use on Firefox (yay addons). - Lorddias, on 10/19/2008, -3/+4You can use Proxify.. does the same exact thing.
- AirRaven, on 10/19/2008, -0/+1http://www.opera.com/ ?
- drgmdp, on 10/20/2008, -1/+2i bet they can't live with that
- gilbert2048, on 10/19/2008, -2/+3either a linux version or a sandbox per tab for firefox...
- NyteStarNyne, on 10/19/2008, -1/+2diggberry
- DeathfireD, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1obviously it would kill youtube's videos..
If you want selective ad blocking you could add a list of regex's to the userscript and block elements based on that. - longbow486, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1I just cannot get sound to work in chrome, but maybe because its running on 64bit Vista
other then that I haven't had one problem with Chrome, runs fast and smooth. the Download manager could use some work though - ptFoe, on 10/20/2008, -2/+3they don't give a F, stick to Firefox
- grifforama, on 10/20/2008, -5/+6MAC PLEASE
- jnahc, on 10/21/2008, -0/+1Sounds great! I've been missing my scripts ever since I started using Chrome
- Atomic1fire, on 10/20/2008, -0/+1http://lifehacker.com/5046529/how-to-block-ads-in- ...
here is a guide for blocking ads in chrome with privoxy/
Not trying to advertise privoxy, Just suggesting a fix that works (Im not sure if the adblocking covers all the browsers, but it should considering the browser you use probably could be setup to work with privoxy, which means even adblocker for IE) - JackpotCity, on 10/20/2008, -2/+3This browser still has a long way to go before I ditch FireFox. There are just certain tools that I cannot live without and Chrome does not have them.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 10/20/2008, -1/+2You bought into Clique Marketing...this is just one of the prices you paid.
