- Brennan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22I cant wait until my entire os uses AJAX! Buzzwords!
- mcclelland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21AJAXPress will soon be releasing a new version which will downgrade gracefully by redirecting noscript users and old browsers to a strictly PHP based version of the blog.
- florin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+26Besides "duplicate story", "bad link", "spam", "ok, this is lame", etc., we need a new problem category:
yet another AJAX link - jkaiser, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18How many times can the word "AJAX" be used in a single post?
- south, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Yeah, because last time I installed Random Access Memory and a new Central Processing Unit, my Basic Input Output System just wouldn't Power On Self Test. My goodness was I Pissed Off! My Personal Computer just wouldn't boot. I checked the Frequently Asked Questions on the World Wide Web but couldn't find an answer. In the end, I just decided to get a Return Merchandise Authorization from the Original Equipment Manufacturer. And you know what? I sure am glad that I didn't have to throw around any silly acronyms in the process!
- indeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I didn't spend too much time on the demo, but it's my impression that there are a lot of places where they're using AJAX (at least initially) just for the sake of using AJAX. For example, if you hit "Manage" in the admin area, you have to suffer an additional wait as the "Latest 15 Posts" and "Latest 15 Comments" are loaded via an AJAX transaction. Why not just send these with the initial page? I could understand using AJAX to refresh these lists when searching/filtering/sorting, but on the initial load? Completely unnecessary. A similar problem exists when editing an article. The "category" select box is loaded via AJAX for no apparent reason other than because they can. In this case, there doesn't even seem to be another input that could have the potential to trigger the category select to change. Maybe they have some base framework that just makes it "easier" for them to force everything through AJAX, but I think the site suffers for it. Maybe it's something they'll fix as they work on their graceful degradation problems...
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16"Yet another AJAX site which does not degrade gracefully when javascript is disabled."
like digg? - Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15I don't think you all get it, those of you who are dissing this project. I usually hate AJAX projects minus a select few (Meebo for one).
This is the best idea since sliced bread. Imagine it, a world with all blogs in AJAX. People won't be able to link to their blogs when posting to Digg! Outstanding! - arcticblue, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Is everyone who makes a blogging system going to get it advertised on Digg? Or is it only buzzword compliant ones? This has got to be around the 3rd "new *buzzword* powered blogging engine" I've seen this week.
I applaud the efforts made though. I'm actually working on one for my site too (I don't like using other people's code. I want to understand how it works). I'd like to know any suggestions that others may have for designing one. - p3ngu1n, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10this is just AJAX for AJAX's sake. AJAX has it's place; and it's not here.
- geekologist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Check out http://digg.com . They use AJAX!!! Isn't that great!!! Check out http://spam.com too. They use AJAX, but it still looks ugly.
Come on. It's just AJAX. I know it's cool, but really... who cares? - WiBu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9WordPress on AJAX powered steroids?
- JAPIO, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9This sure looks neat. And transferring from wordpress is done by just a simple click.
- a1programmer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I don't really like the idea that the "AJAX" is part of the domain name, or part of the site name for that matter. Who really cares that you make it known to your users that you're using ajax? They're more than likely just going to care that it's cool, and it works... Are all of our future ajax apps going to be called AJAXthis, and AJAXthat? I seriously doubt it...
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I understand what you mean. Toyota should name their next car "Power Windows Car". But they won't because power windows are only a small part of a cars overall technology. Just like the use of AJAX in this blogging system is only a small part in it's overall functionality.
It's mildly retarded to use the term AJAX in the name of your product. - sintaks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Buzzwords indeed.
AJAX should be used where it directly benefits usability and ease of development... not just because it's pretty (no refresh) and popular (Buzz buzz! Ajax-Buzz!). - mcclelland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7That would be due to what they call the "Digg Effect." and the small webserver buckling under the high traffic. Try it out on your own server and see how fast it is.
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+5so if you a receiving high traffic to your blog this means that for each user your site is going to continue to check for updates automatically - seems like a great waste of CPU and bandwidth
- Nagash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+51 Doesnt Degrade gracefully.
a. No Javascript No worky
2. Not Search engine friendly.
a No one can find your blog!
3. Cant Link to stories.
a. If they did find it by chance, How do you link back to stories!!!
Hmmm Hey I want a blog that does all that!!!!!!!!!!! - Greg-J, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's not a marketing term. It's an acronym.
- zukeft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Not yet; it's being worked on and am pretty sure it'll be implemented in the next release: http://www.logahead.com/forums/comments.php?DiscussionID=48&page=1#Item_0
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4All you need now is a Rectabular Excursion bracket and an Ambihelical Hexnut.
-Ryan - veracon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Lame. No really, take a mediocre blogging system, add some JavaScript and you've got hype.
- gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Just like when flash first came on the scene - everyone was trying to use it for anything and everything, its useful but its already clear that its being misused and used just because its new
- zukeft, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6From the looks of the "demo," I prefer Logahead so far.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why not use a mature blogging system like WordPress with an AJAX equipped theme? Do we really need an entirely new blogging application just to have some nifty JavaScript features?
This is quite possibly the worse use for AJAX that I've seen. Read my comment above, about the stupidity of using the term AJAX in your product's name. - Salmonax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Seems kind of slow and wonky (in part, no doubt, because it's being dugg), but I'm sure we'll be seeing more and more AJAX in blogging software whether these guys do it or not.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Exactly, you can mod it if you want to, no need to turn the entire system into AJAX
- piznut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This is totally pointless. I mean really. AJAX has some great uses that make a lot of sense.
This is not one of them. - aThing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4/me middle clicks link, goes elsewhere.
Oh look! The tab is done loading.
/me goes to tab.
WTF?! Loading still? - jmazzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3So, it seems like search engines wont be able to crawl your content correctly then.
- KillerJ59J, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4aeiri:
The link changes in your address bar when you click the links so that you can link or directly come back to the page. At *least* check the site out before putting your two cents in.. - cybernetic798, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Ways to get on digg:
Mention AJAX, Web 2.0, blog, podcast, CSS, and the like - indeh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Or maybe you're an intelligent gadget-loving guy whose hot new mobile device's browser has a bad/broken javascript implementation...
I don't know, on every site I've ever worked on, adding javascript IS the extra dev effort. You start with a good (x)html page (with solid server-side scripting, if needed), and the javascript gets added to it to serve whatever purpose you have envisioned for it. - Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Looks awfully like Wordpress, but compared seems bloated and working slower (though propably partially because of the digg effect) with a decrease in functionality and flexibility. Why would I want all that AJAX in my blog? Some things look cool, but nothing more, just some widgets.
- dpknc84, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9demo here:
http://www.ajaxpress.org/demo
demo admin (u:demo/p:demo):
http://www.ajaxpress.org/demo/admin - iobuffa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I was looking at Logahead too as my next engine. Does Logahead have support for blocking comment spam? This seems to be my most important feature.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Kinda buggy. Submitted story and all the text was misaligned. Good concept though.
- Cine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Am using Safari, and it isn't working for me. No content shows up.
No digg. - zatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2now that the site is experiencing the digg effect, notice the biggest flaw of fully ajax powered sites? they simply dont load the content
- Bogtha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's pretty ignorant. Misusing Javascript in this way means that random things break for everybody, not just people with Javascript disabled. Browser features such as opening articles in new tabs stop working. The person responsible for this is in dire need of learning how to use Javascript properly.
- noelsusman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wow....Congratulations
You said AJAX five times, threw in a couple blogs, and even PHP and MySQL. Hell, you even put admin in there. If that's not a sure way to get to the front page then I don't know what is.
Honestly, it doesn't really look like anything useful. Just because it is AJAX doesn't mean it is good and useful. It just means it has a chance to look cool and advanced. - mcclelland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The server is having trouble due to the unusually high load of traffic it has received recently. Sorry!
- dragazis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3logahead
- rYno, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4this is one of those instances where too much ajax can be a bad thing.
Not interested - I'll mod my wordpress for "NEEDED" ajax workings. - ermau, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What's with using the default WordPress theme without giving credit? Automatic shun for that, not to mention all the other nonsense that's been mentioned. Sorry, this looks like a joke to me more then a usefull piece of software.
- edmicman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's wrong with Wordpress? They already have incorporated some async xml stuff to make usability better, and it's rock solid.
- FZero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Like many AJAX, this one breaks the back button. It's not difficult to fix that, but most Web2.0 apps seem to overlook it.
- iobuffa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Have you tested Camino 1.0?
- aptiva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You know, when things get raped as much as ajax does in "AJAXPress" (come on... that has to be the worst name they could possibly come up with, buzzword rape and stealing from another name in *one* name)
People grow tired of them, sometimes they even start an anti "hype" get over it.
I for one love ajax, but I think buzzword rape like the name of this blogging system are so stupid it just makes me want to rip out somebody's kidney
feel free to digg this post down into a deep hole -

What is Digg?
The Digg Toolbar for Firefox lets you Digg, submit content, and keep track of Digg even when you're not on the Digg site. Download the official
