- enaut, on 08/22/2008, -0/+19Really great news! Amarok 2 ist getting shape.
- TonyMurray, on 08/22/2008, -0/+17You should be able to use it comfortably at 2.0, I have been using SVN for some time.
Note: The difference between KDE 4.0 and Amarok 2.0 is KDE is a huge collection of programs/libraries and they needed to have a set release schedule to keep things moving. Amarok is one program, they set their own schedule and will release when they are ready. - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -1/+16screenshots, please
- LordBernhard, on 08/22/2008, -1/+16wow.. just tested it on windows... so far I didn't encounter ANY crashes or major annoyances :-) the interface still looks a bit ugly (the playback buttons overlap and there are still some unpolished things (e.g. the osd has an old icon), the audio filters get started multiple times (show up in the systray) and nearly all plasmoids don't show anything yet... but apart from that.. playing music works and I'm already a happy user of it :-)
What I also wonder is when the mac build will be released (if any for the beta) - inactive, on 08/23/2008, -4/+19Breaking Breaking, Read All About It!!!
Amarok 2 released, looks like a messy iTunes!
PS: I'm just tossing jokes, The Amarok team rules and I always fully support open source software. - robcollins55, on 08/23/2008, -0/+12Just had reply to kde bug 169638, suggestion re-quoted: "Have you deleted your ~/.kde4/share/apps/amarok/collection.db before your rescan? unfortunately our DB schema changed between alpha and beta and requires a new collection."
I did this and deleted also collection_scan.files and collection_scan.log in the same folder. "rescanned collection" in amarok and problem went away! amarok 2 now returned to my favourite music player ever!! well done amarok dev team on an absolutely outstanding release. - shar0213, on 08/23/2008, -1/+12Amarok is awesome, and it's even *more* awesome because you can control it remotely using your (soon-to-be-released) Google Android phone. (Take that, Apple iTunes remote!)

Here's the GPL'ed Android app that works with the Amarok 1.4 series. Can't wait to start working with 2.0 stable when it comes out. - 16777216, on 08/22/2008, -0/+9The playback buttons are supposed to overlap slightly.
- APer3Caper, on 08/23/2008, -0/+8DigitusAnonymus has multiple personality disorder.
- YmerejO42, on 08/23/2008, -0/+7How did you test it on Windows? I downloaded the KDE-on-Windows installer, but every server I checked had Amarok 1.90, not Amarok 2 beta. I'd love to try it out on Windows!
- sjmulder, on 08/23/2008, -0/+7There didn't seem to be any 2.0 screens up yet, but from those that are available it seems this program is verry cluttered. This seems to be a given with pretty much any KDE app.
- skinnyskittles, on 08/23/2008, -1/+8you should probably click the link and read
- BesideYouInTime, on 08/23/2008, -0/+6That's the beta...I have no idea why it's listed as Amarok 1.90.
- Strash, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6Just wait for the 2.0 release !
- aldableep3, on 08/23/2008, -1/+6commence the burying..
- YmerejO42, on 08/23/2008, -0/+5OK, thanks, downloading it now.
- Nekiruhs, on 08/24/2008, -0/+5Uh, done. Use the KDE4 windows installer and select to install the Amarok 1.9 package, thats the beta.
- ommadawn, on 08/22/2008, -1/+6Amarok 2 should be great in the end, but it takes so long and users are so anxious that more people bash it than support it, I think.
- durand101, on 08/24/2008, -0/+4What an idiot.
- sjmulder, on 08/23/2008, -0/+4A music application, no, it's a public testing version, name of this version, no idea.
- reldruh, on 08/23/2008, -1/+4Maybe those are old? I used the alphas and there was a lot of room for improvement. This beta has improved a lot, looks very different, very clean. Here's a screenshot of the beta. The other screenshots there are from older versions.
- inactive, on 08/23/2008, -0/+3They never have screenshots when they talk about this mysterious program.
- mrBitch, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3wow, the screenshot of the beta looks great...
- dustin32, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3Screens or it didn't happen.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 08/24/2008, -0/+3windows port please :( It's the main thing I miss in a windows environment.
- Hydrogen, on 08/24/2008, -1/+3The .msi installer is going to install just the same things...
- durand101, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2You need to delete the amarok2 settings folder. That worked for me.
- HorseloverFat8, on 08/25/2008, -0/+2Follow the instructions on the Amarok 2 page which clearly tells you because of a new database system in this release, you need to delete your old collection.db file in order for this to work.
- tcpip4lyfe, on 08/24/2008, -1/+3I don't like installing a bunch of crap on my computer just for one application. I'll just wait for a .msi package. Untill then, foobar will work fine.
- jasmus, on 08/23/2008, -2/+4Take that, technology that's existed for ages!
I remember doing this from my Sony Erricson T68i to my PC with bluetooth, controling itunes, winamp and loads of other stuff. - HorseloverFat8, on 08/25/2008, -0/+2WinAmp can't do all this, or more. Unless the more you're referring to is ***** AOL ads. Also, you're a douche.
- dirtyforker, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Dunno what distro you use but this is a beta and no distro is going to have it in their main repositories. Read the article. You can download it from there.
- RoboDonut, on 08/23/2008, -0/+2"lack thereof of Nvidia support"
WHAT. - Ellipsys, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Can anyone confirm if it can interface/transfer/sync with the "hated" iDevices, like an iPhone 3G or iPod Touch? I heard that the Amarok team worked some wizardry into a hack for the previous version, and that it might come standard on 2.0?
- durand101, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Oops...didnt see your next comment...You should just reply in thread.
- sx66gns, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2Hell yea!
- rowlodge, on 08/24/2008, -0/+2used to have a mac now i'll try this, just curious.
- xkorbin, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Am I the only one here who has played PlanetSide? (if you have, there is relevance)
- klitzbtc, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Is there an echo in here? of of of of of......
- shawnanigans, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1Any screens?
- moocow1452, on 08/23/2008, -0/+1Synaptic has nothing on Nerrivik or Amarok 1.9, help?
- durand101, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1I use a wiimote.
- inactive, on 04/28/2009, -0/+1Amamrok looks totally cool to me. Mike

http://www.squidoo.com/regcuresoftwarereview - aeschynanthus, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1I use Amarok 1.4 on Linux but I tested the beta on Windows using the win-kde installer. Installation worked fine.
Some notes:
1. Playback isn't gapless for FLAC, at least not when the files are on an external USB hdd with ext3 filesystem (using ext2fsd in Windows. That's a non-standard setup if anything.).
2. I'm not getting any sound with mp3s. Did I forget a component from the installer? Ogg works. -- Wait, it was a 320kbps mp3 that didn't play. 192kbps works as does VBR. That 320kbps file works if I skip a second and then let it play.
3. Selecting directories for the collection, the checkmark often isn't shown.
4. Automatical fetching of album covers is annoying and gets things wrong sometimes.
5. Submitting to Last.fm works.
The appearance of the beta is something I really don't like at this point even considering its unfinished state. At the very minimun, want to have a different colour in the OSD.
Then there's the playlist. It's completely unusable at this point for me. I've decided that I can't use a player with playlist without columns. - abbathdoom, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1Screens or GTFO
- YodaJones, on 08/24/2008, -0/+1I love Amarok and it is great. I use int on Gnome and so there are a few cosmetic issues and quirks. I think the Amarok guys have done a great job although it was written for Gnome instead of KDE. I especially like the MagnaTune integration. Very noble.
In the mean time I have also begun to use Songbird and it's latest release was pretty huge also. Songbird has a Last.fm plugin that is pretty cool. - Killerah, on 08/27/2008, -0/+1Looks great minus the ugly overlapping buttons (seriously, why?).
- DriversPlaza, on 01/20/2009, -0/+1i later on got more stuff related to it over here - http://www.techlookz.com/application-downloads/
- ronocdh, on 11/02/2008, -0/+1They're bigger. I like that. They're shinier. That's waaaaay more 2.0.
