- fyre2012, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33one word: Goldeneye!
- KidVicious, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34I do. What do I do with it, you ask? Play 40 dollar game after 40 dollar game downloaded free from interweb, then follow that up with watching my tv shows and playing Super Mario World, then some Contra, and Sonic.
- anthony1124, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23kudo's! hopefully one day i will be found sitting in the stalls at work playing ocarina of time.
- ZekeSulastin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21You mean apostrOphes, right? It'd be a shame to use a misspelled apostrophe ...
/spelling nazi ;) - cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19keep in mind this is just a proof-of-concept release...
from the readme:
* There is no savegame support.
* There is no audio support.
* Not all the N64 controls can be used.
* Large roms (i.e. over 8MB) cannot be loaded.
* Many roms won't boot.
* Many roms have serious graphical glitches.
* Many roms have random lockups and crashes.
* Most roms run at a low framerate. - firemaker103, on 10/12/2007, -12/+28Kind of ironic, that Nintendo is on Sony, isn't it?
- iluvatar, on 11/04/2007, -13/+28not ironic so much as illegal...
also, the psp doesn't have the right amount of buttons... how does that work? - Ecoli, on 10/12/2007, -22/+37Just look at the number of people with DS's, and divide it by 6.
- darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Agggh! So many Nazis!
- Blah_Blah_Blah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15KidVicious is right. I have a PSP and i kind of regretted it, but hopefully ill use it more once i get a 2gb memory stick. I still have firmware version 1.5! yay!
- craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Right now everything except the C buttons have been mapped. I'd guess they will eventualy just have to chose which are important to the game your going to play and remap it all yourself.
- Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Anyways, now that this is out Monkey 64 can only get better. Right now its more compatible and runs faster, but needs textures working. Hope the two can team up can make a better emu =]
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10heh, well who's fault is that?
if they made a few decent games, maybe the retro-gamers and hackers will have a reason to upgrade. - satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11What's with all the DS owners flaming the PSP? Try and be even a little constructive and go post on a DS thread. I suppose it shows the difference on what the target market is for each product.
- cadpo76, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Hey look! A grammar nazi who can't spell!
I do agree with his pont, though. - istatic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11You obviously don't know much about emulators. The PSP is easily capable of emulating the N64 at near full speed.
- film42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Remember it is still new! wow, it is funny how often people forget!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Looks cool. The's emulators really bring a lot more games to the platform. (Even though some are bad)
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Nobody's buying the PSP so they can play Nintendo consoles"
I sure as hell didn't buy mine for the "awesome" psp titles... I picked one up used for the sole purpose of having a handheld genesis/nes/gameboy with a large selection of roms and no cartridges/disks to carry around. It's perfect for a flight or a long road trip when there's nothing better to do. It's any retro-gamer's wet dream.
That aside, i don't really care if they get an N64 emulator working or not (i'm guessing that it will get lost in the mix like the xbox n64 emulator did). I've already got access to hundreds of decent games via the current set of emulators. - cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8stealing?
If i were to buy a NES console second-hand and duct tape it to my DS with a Legend of Zelda cart in the slot, Nintendo still wouldn't get any money out of it... They don't manufacture NES consoles anymore, nor would they profit from used game hardware sales. - craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Monkey did leave a message in the original message board thread about this, and the two creators are in contact. I know i'm deffinatly looking forward to this.
- chromo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8i gave it a try with mario 64 and im shocked at the progress, hopfuly some people can help this development with it being open source and all.
how bout some wirless super smash bros? i say hells yes! - bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I myself have both, I'm not really interested in an N64 emu since I can play that full speed at home. SNES, NES, GB, GBA, AMSDRAD and a few other emulators work just as good if not better than the normal versions,
I remember last time I heard the SNES emu has Ad-Hoc wireless and was running at around 100 FPS normally.
I would play my games on my DS its just I don't want to spend another $50-100 on something I can already do on my PSP or my computer for that matter.
Also its not just about the emulators right now PSPradio the wi-fi radio program has a linux based browser.
A lot of PSP communities are even working on Starcraft and Age of Empires for the PSP
NOW DON'T EVER GO BASHING ON EITHER ***** SYSTEM OF ELSE - Elxx, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Yes. Can't wait to play it on my PSP.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57977&package_id=188603&release_id=414132
It's dated today, works for both 1.0 and 1.5 firmware. - Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Nobody's buying the PSP so they can play Nintendo consoles. That's like saying someone bought a PC specifically so they could run NES emulators... you get the hardware for one reason, and if you can do other stuff with it then hey, more power to you. Yeah, there aren't a lot of official PSP games out there that are worth much, but there are a lot of homebrew that's good and also it plays mp3s. Mp3 player and Homebrew machine in one, score.
... now someone just convince Sony that's the way to market the damn thing... - tacos4me, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12The Xbox can barely run a Nintendo64 rom. Good luck getting much of anything to run on a PSP.
- Yuffie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Sadly, you can't. Goldeneye required you to use the C buttons which can't be mapped because there is not enough buttons.
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Games around 12MB load. It's the 16MB+ ones that don't load.
- film42, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7All homebrew that loads directly is 1.0 or 1.5, the GTA hack is availble from 2.0 to 2.6.
It will be out for 2.7 soon if everything goes to plan. - SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Xbox doesn't have hardware similar to a N64...
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"I doubt this will never run"
so... you think it will then? make up your mind - apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4yeah, but the psp has a near full speed snes emulator. emulation in general is considerably pretty good for a device thats only been around for a year now.
- nocternaloxide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Few points...
Portability is why I would want to play N64 on my PSP, and it's not about buying a PSP only for that... Like Dragular said, I bought to watch movies, listen to MP3's, look at magazines, and the fact that it could emulate games - AWESOME! I could give a **** about Sony's games - they suck!
By the way, about the apostrophe thing earlier - grammar nazi forgot to mention "possession" - if something belongs to something, you need to use an ' - walkingcrow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here is a video of the gameplay in Mario 64 on my PSP
http://www.psphacking101.com/videos/Mario64onPSP.wmv
(I did have the video play back 2x and cut out some of the load times) - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i think its great that there is so much of a homebrewed thing going on with the PSP, that could not have been done with a perfect line up so im pretty happy that they ***** up the games.... Without the homebrewed they probably wouldnt have as many updates, without as many updates they wouldnt have had as many features, so everyone that enjoys more features or lots of homebrewed stuff wins
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's called fanboy-ism. (ignorance).
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6ZOMG lames!
Please explain how I would be able to " play half those games legally" by buying a DS.
And please explain how I would be able to put the Wii or the "real deal" ( I assume you mean the N64 itself) into my pocket and play games on the go. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo doesn't even own the patent for the NES.
- firemaker103, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why don't you play both of them and rate them yourself rather then relying on Gamespot...
Sad, sad world we live in....
A hacked DS could do just about everything a psp can do. Browse the internet(touchscreen), play with DSlinux, get a media viewer for it(can't remember it now), etc. Alas, nobody cares... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, you could always use the PSP's analog stick.
- Bakagamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not as easy to do, because there's no memory card that comes with it.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2most of the people saying the PSP games suck are the PSP owners... the only games i would get for PSP are lumius (about 50 MBs, perfect for 1.5 Firmwares) and i love my katimari
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i hate you
- jer.williams, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Hey, I meant "ever run." My deepest apologies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PSPHacks is filled with AdultFriendFinder ads. And I tried it. It doesn't work.
- satori3000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3OK, so I just wanted to check the reality of the comments about the PSP having not as good games as the DS I just did a little math exercise. I went to Gamespot and took all the scores for the DS and added them up and divided the total by the number of entries... this of course gives you the average score of the DS games. Average score of DS games according to Gamespot is 6.65 out of 10. Of course the only way to be sure is to check the same on the PSP... guess what the score was.... go on... you think the DS has better games don't you, don't you??? of course you do, because you're being negative in PSP thread... Average PSP score was 7.28 out of 10. As far as I'm concerned it really doesn't matter who has the better games, they both have their ups and downs. Just enjoy what you have.
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Wow Nintendo fanboys on digg spamming PSP threads.... SHOCKER!!!!
- Spaz007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you have any clue wafflesomd? Its not because it doesn't have games but because people WANT to play Nintendo, Sega, Atari and MAME games also. Why have just PSP games when you can play all of them.
- unclefrank, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bought a PSP because i heard it could play SNES and NES roms. I purchased about 4 PSP titles and enjoy 3 of them. I love being able to play SNES and NES games on it. Now I can't play most of the new PSP titles because they need the updated firmware and i dont want to lose my little portable SNES. I would gladly buy PSP titles if i could upgrade the firmware without losing this. I don't know how many people out there are like me, but Sony has defintley lost out on my cash because of this. I am most likely the minority (allthough of digg readership there might be many others like me:)
