Please no personal blogs. - jacwright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4For those who see a blog and hate it no matter what the reason, I have made the link a redirect to MyStickies site. For those would would still like more information on what it is and how to use it before we get the site documentation up, you may view the blog post at http://www.jacwright.com. Again, I apologize for linking to a blog post in the original Digg. I have no advertising on my blog and have no reason for posting to it other than to inform.
- jacwright, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I apologize for linking to my blog. The reason I did was because I created MyStickies and had a little more explanation of what it is and how it works than we currently have on MyStickies.com since a blog is so much more easier to write a bunch of stuff down in an informal way. We will be getting more information on the site soon however.
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Real nice one, but why no IE support?"
HA! Isn't that a turnaround from where we were just a few years ago? :) Go get yourself a decent browser.
PS. IE is teh suck. - jasongetsdown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Holy web2.0 Batman!!
And who needs IE support??? There are better browsers for FREE! Thats right! They cost nothing! We call them Modern Browsers, as opposed to paleolithic browsers. - csimpkins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is it just me being silly, or are protopage and this thing completely different?
One is a personalized start page, and the other lets you add persistent, personal sticky notes to whatever site you visit... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is slick. I have tons of bookmarks to sites that I have no idea why I did it in the first place. This is a big help.
- roba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2possibly a useful service, but running tcpdump while browsing shows they are getting a list of every web site you visit. how else would the service know if it needed to place a note on a given page? I would consider this spyware.
- krusbjorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Stickies dont appear when i try to create them on half of the sites. It's buggy, and there are some random error messages appearing from time to time. No digg.
- c3oorg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2csimpkins is right, so far almost no-one who commented (and flamed) has actually understood what this does. great job guys.
- farkninja, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Whoops, didn't see that you created it. My bad. :(
- epall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What are the system requirements?
- Mr.Glass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1didn't they do this during the dot com boom, with the public stickys? i think i heard that they had issues with people covering a website completely to protest it.
- ph713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
Why do you need an account for this? Couldn't the FF extension just store your stickies locally, and it could just be an extension? Why "mystickies.com" and a login and a password and potentially remote storage and all that?
Suspicious at best - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wiped out my google bar on Ubuntu Linux with Firefox 1.5
- VSack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In my estimation, this is one of the most useful tools for a web developer since Pederick's toolbar came out.
All the site's you bookmark for inspiration, all the sites you are developing for, you can now add persistent notes to them directly that ONLY appear when you are viewing that web page. No longer will you open a page and go "What the hell was I thinking when I added this to my delicious? No more rummaging through a pile of notes in OneNote figuring out which note was for what client...
This is an incredible piece of work. Kudos to the developers and I will be evangelizing this!
Now, make it easy for me to share notes with people in my group and make notes public/private and you'll make ten million when Yahoo buys you out! - lerchmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We will be saving through SSL soon so the privacy issue should be alleviated. I believe google toolbar does the same, the only difference is we have no intention of harvesting browsing habits as it states in our privacy policy.
- sam54m, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nice concept
- BigToach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the actual stickies are ugly. Add a bg image or something
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let's all go chec'k that ou't it s'ound's reall'y coo'l
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it would have been a better idea to call them "WebStickies" ... but thats my opinion.
- caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think that it is his project, and he is talking explaining how to use it, hence link to blog!
Quit beating up on people for linking to thier blog.
digg++ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Real nice one, but why no IE support?
- JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the tags is hot! sweet
- diggingATgoogle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jacwright, you did great and I liked the blog post because it is VERY informative. Some of the people on this site are blind... and don't read. They are flaming you when I think you were right in the beginning. Also, the product is great. Some people don't understand saying public stickies for ads and what not... they cleary didn't read anything and don't understand the product. Ignore them. This has my attention and some of my coworkers I'm sure as well.
- imajilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wanted to try it. But page elements simply disappear when I click on them. . . I hate nysinyd interfaces!
- lerchmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And we most likely will not have public stickies for that very reason. This is primarily an information management and organizational tool. We do plan on making tags shareable between friends and are looking at different ways to make it usefull without allowing people to abuse it.
- kartbart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MAJOR SPYWARE!!!
This extension records all the URLs you visit. Uninstall. Nice service, but did you really think people would still install it after they found out this type of an implementation? - rayray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also how is protopage the same thing? You can post stickies to your protopage... I didn't know you could post sticky notes to anypage online with it?
- burke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I hate nysinyd interfaces!"
lol
"went into a mad loop"
me too. All was good after that though.
This is really cool. I wish it could integrate with de.icio.us somehow. - pixelshit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1boring. the idea of stickies for the desktop is ok but such a rudimentary interface and concept for websites just doesn't work.
if you want to add notes check out delicious
if you want to annotate check out wizlite.com - ct2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 Install went into a mad loop and killed my Firefox - be warned!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same happened to me ct2000 but it works. Great digg.
- senzafine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Install went into loop for me too. Allow mystickies.com to install extensions. Close FireFox. Try again and it worked for me.
This is awesome. Digg++ - Philipp_Lenssen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yep, crashed Firefox here too, but then worked quite well.
- eclip5e, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is just a copy of hoodwink.d with a prettyier UI.
- sosocute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fresh,good,but a little difficult
- edmicman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1is there something like this thats oss and i can install on my own host?
- n0raisin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great..... when a client phones me up about changes that need to be made to a website I can just make notes on the site itself rather than write them down in my illegible writing... nice one.
- caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Even does a redirect now... So enough with the complaints already.
- coldsteel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What exactly does this site do that DEL.ICIO.US doesn't do? I'll be the first to admit that I didn't "get" DEL.ICIO.US for a long time either but now I use it all the time. If I wanted to comment about a web page its in my Site tag and description, so I'm not "getting" the point or maybe uniqueness is a better word of this site.
- rayray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also please note he got sick and tired of so many people complaining (way to make a good impression... we whine a lot) he set the link to automatically redirect to the actual site now... bypassing the EXCELLENT write up he had on his blog.
- godmode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Konfabulator's Slickies are better, since theyre on your desktop.
http://www.widgetgallery.com/view.php?widget=35837 - phill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They really need to put some more info on their web site. I have no idea how it work, what it needs to work. I click on the links and they just disappear from the screen. I click on the "Try It" link and my browser just crashes.
I'm using Safari on Mac. - staryprd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, sharing with friends is fine, keeping all potentially sensitive info on random server on Internet is not. A P2P solution with trusted participants, using strong encryption for authenticating/sharing the info pool would be much more preferable! I even remember seeing a P2P extension for Firefox not long ago, why not reuse it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just fix the spelling mistakes on your product's website and I might consider this a credible effort. "Powerfull" and "Wonderfull" are correctly spelled with one one 'l'.
- staryprd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, and BTW I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) when you're turning on page rank display in Google toolbar, it warns you that it's going to send to Google the data on all sites you visit. I'm not ever going to use this feature for exactly this reason, otherwise Google toolbar doesn't harvest anything. And please note, it is GOOGLE, meaning a trustworthy entity...
- biff198, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the website itself is really buggy. When I first got there, when I clicked on a link, it would disappear completely, and not direct me to the linked page. Then, when i punched in the URL manually, on other pages, links would disappear when I just moused over them! And when i tried to download to firefox, it would change the URL, but not direct me there. When I would manually hit return to go to that url, nothing would happen. I would probably digg, but i haven't seen anything impressive yet. maybe later.
- punx45, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if anyone is getting a download error while trying to install the extension, download the .xpi with right click and then open it with firefox.
kinda obvious but whatever. - staryprd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice idea, poor implementation. Why keep all the info on visited sites/stickies on some web server rather than locally? Call me paranoid, but I don't like being spied on. Otherwise would have been a killer app.
