- danomagnum, on 07/02/2008, -6/+5well shiiiiiver meeee timberrrrrrs
- fpaudon, on 07/03/2008, -2/+7This is exactly what I hate: people who offer, rather than a valid contribution, a pointless comment with nothing other than an emotional response to the subject matter at hand in a feeble attempt to get dugg up like crazy for having the first comment in a super popular topic.
In before buries from people who see fallaciously see hypocrisy in this
- Apophis574, on 07/02/2008, -57/+25OVER 9000!!!!!!!
- InvertedDonkey, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4they dont understand.
- daFilms, on 07/02/2008, -1/+107Where in the World did it all come from?!? http://www.spreadfirefox.com/worldrecord/ almost 30 million Fx3 downloads in just two weeks!!
For those who care to party http://mozillaparty.com/ ... good times.- ichopsticks, on 07/02/2008, -12/+16Hm. . . a lot of those parties are hosted in Iran.
- crazycarlmar, on 07/02/2008, -0/+15I don't understand why you are being dugg down. Most of the "parties" are in Iran.
- BestJaxx, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I noticed that to. I was a little surprised that America is hosting one party, and Iran is hosting around twenty.
- Cashmoney504, on 07/03/2008, -1/+6things that make you go wtf...
- BlaenkDenum, on 07/02/2008, -0/+19There would've been more, but impatient or people that just didn't know, resorted to mirrors (Like rapdidshare, filehippo, etc.) when the servers went down. Not saying they shouldn't have had, but maybe if those people were to have re-downloaded it when the servers were up from the true source so that the download would count, we would have gotten higher numbers.
Still though, that's awesome!- JEWestbrookJR, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9Yeah, but those people probably just cancel out people like me that own 4 different computers that I want it on and for the sake of the record, downloaded it 4 separate times per machine rather than throw it on my flashdrive.
- striker1211, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3You have four dedicated connections to the internet? I'm pretty sure it's only counting unique downloads.
- JEWestbrookJR, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2That's why each download was from a unique location :). 1 home, 1 at work, 1 at my parents' house, and one from my cellphone dongle.
- tiegamma7, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13***** yea! I'm going party hopping in Iran!
- kpwells, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5anyone else notice 0 downloads in north korea?
- Jeremyz0r, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Almost nothing leaves or enters N.Korea. I don't believe they even have an Internet provider.
- keeganspeck, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Or in Svalbard!? Who would have expected?
- jetsetter883, on 07/02/2008, -9/+1a Mozilla party to celebrate a new Firefox? wow, i don't use it now and will never in the future because of this.
- WTF69, on 07/02/2008, -1/+8North Korea 0
- digitalpencil, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1This was about the most genius piece of online marketing i've come across in a long time.
I'm a long time FF user and participated in download day.. once the 404s had cleared up that is ;) but the concept of attempting to set a world record that's never actually been set before is nothing more than a stunt to leverage a loyal fan-base in increasing your market share which, Mozilla has pulled off with style! Firefox is taking a piece of the pie from the online behemoth that is IE and hopefully in the next few years we'll see it take majority share and wave bye-bye to IE's attrocious record for intercompatibility and standards compliance. It really is paving the way for browsers and now competing with Safari in terms of speed... if only they could make it launch faster! Well congrats Mozilla, you guys really deserve it! - known, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3I wish remaining Open Source Software are as Usable as Firefox by the time my son grows old to programming.
- paulmer2003, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1No parties in the US? Wtf?
- ichopsticks, on 07/02/2008, -12/+16Hm. . . a lot of those parties are hosted in Iran.
- motionblur, on 07/02/2008, -1/+24Here's some video of Mozilla Toronto's launch party when the record was on its way to being set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clQHaq7OP6M

- BobMysterioso, on 07/02/2008, -9/+2so.. thats 30 million + 8 million. Which is a valid number all the same.
- erichw1504, on 07/02/2008, -1/+19actually it's at 28,672,576 as of 5:24 PM EST on Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008.

- LightSpeed4, on 07/02/2008, -42/+6oh wow they set a record for something that didnt have arecord!
who gives a *****, this can easily be broken.- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -4/+34Okay, let us know when you make some great software that 8,002,530 download in 24 hours.
- sagat, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2Any Windows Service Pack. Sad but easily true.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2I don't think they get that many downloads in 24 hours only because most people don't upgrade immediately, namely businesses, and it wouldn't qualify for a record in this category because many of those could be automatic, or the user is informed. With Firefox 3 it was not an automatic update nor has there been any notification to Firefox 2 users with an "update Firefox" dialog of any kind that I've heard of.
- breckinshire, on 07/02/2008, -3/+26So break it.
- smmakira, on 07/02/2008, -3/+12Step up son!
- GregofJersey, on 07/02/2008, -2/+9Put up or shut up. ;-)
- sc0rpi0n, on 07/02/2008, -11/+2Well said. I'm using Firefox now, but Mozilla Corp sucks.
- atliberty2say, on 07/03/2008, -2/+1'who gives a *****' - that would be me. Now don't climb the clocktower today and keep taking the meds.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -4/+34Okay, let us know when you make some great software that 8,002,530 download in 24 hours.
- wulfstein, on 07/02/2008, -5/+97Firefox 3 blows competition away. Period.
- vacax, on 07/02/2008, -25/+2I think you meant to write "Opera"
- blahtastic, on 07/02/2008, -3/+28I think you meant to write "I'm a pretentious snob and never get invited to parties because nobody wants to hear me be a fanboy attempting to argue about nerdy things for hours."
Then again, wulfstein probably falls in there as well. - vacax, on 07/02/2008, -3/+18Haha, I get invited to all the most pretentious parties!
- blahtastic, on 07/02/2008, -0/+15Ok, that was a good way to take that. Kudos.
- Raptor007, on 07/02/2008, -3/+10Ah, as in "Firefox 3 blows Opera away. Period."
- Foamator, on 07/02/2008, -3/+7You're right!
Firefox 3 blows Opera away. Period.
:D - toxicvarn90, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3Isn't saying FF3 is the best browser or it blows the competition fanboyism as well?
- blahtastic, on 07/02/2008, -1/+2Why yes, toxic, it is. You'll see I mentioned that at the end.
- pnyphnz, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8Both are good browsers. Use whatever suits you.
- celkin, on 07/03/2008, -2/+3^ Buried for sensible, logical, and unbiased comment. You have no place on Digg!
- 1randomguyO8, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1"Haha, I get invited to all the most pretentious parties!"
Apple launch parties, where they invite to buy their expensive, impractical nick naks?
- blahtastic, on 07/02/2008, -3/+28I think you meant to write "I'm a pretentious snob and never get invited to parties because nobody wants to hear me be a fanboy attempting to argue about nerdy things for hours."
- Pronation, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6What competition? ;)
- specialK16, on 07/03/2008, -3/+4Corrrect, Firefox is not even near to what Opera is.
- vacax, on 07/02/2008, -25/+2I think you meant to write "Opera"
- envyme, on 07/02/2008, -7/+10I wonder if there will be any future challengers.
- lolobabyy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+35firefox 4.0 :)
- faizal5k, on 07/02/2008, -1/+26Thanks for everyone for making this happen.
Now let's see if we can break this record for Firefox 4 :)- dlite922, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2aren't you gonna give the competition a chance to catch up?
/sarcasm - the2989, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1It'll happen unless Mozilla sells out and renames Firefox 4 to something retarded like Firefox 360 or some *****.
- dlite922, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2aren't you gonna give the competition a chance to catch up?
- edenseager, on 07/02/2008, -2/+48This Digg story was forseen...
- bigsteve3OOO, on 07/02/2008, -16/+0I find this had to believe when MILF Lova 3 came out it was hotter than this.
- kookbutt, on 07/02/2008, -19/+2Meh, your mom sees more action than that.
- Pronation, on 07/02/2008, -9/+20Firefox FTW!
I get a cookie for downloading it that day right?- mecharabbit, on 07/02/2008, -1/+66Yes, but remember to set your privacy options to accept cookies. Oh, wait did you mean...
- smmakira, on 07/02/2008, -19/+5BOOOO! ;)
- diggrnumber1, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2is it bad that i didn't get the joke at first, since i thought he was talking about the cookies that websites give you? it took me a second to realize he was talking about the old-fashioned type of cookie.
- mecharabbit, on 07/02/2008, -1/+66Yes, but remember to set your privacy options to accept cookies. Oh, wait did you mean...
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -21/+2Feels like Firefox 2 to me, but congrats Mozilla.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Have you used Firefox 3?
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -9/+0using. still feeling like Firefox 3 with just as many memory leaks.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Then you're doing something wrong.
- Iztikeit, on 07/02/2008, -6/+0glad you have full grasp of the situation, but it still has its share of memory leaks, whether you want to admit that about your web browsing God or not
- MavRevMatt, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1It does better than most the other browsers. You said it feels like Firefox 2, which usually means in terms of usability and experience, and you're totally wrong there. I think you're the one who hasn't grasped the situation.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7Have you used Firefox 3?
- gonx32, on 07/02/2008, -12/+2I would expect Windows Updates to get more than 8 million downloads in 24 hours each time one is released.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6That's because Windows update, by default, doesn't ask you about if you want to download and install stuff. It just does automatically. And anytime you change it, at least in my experience, it resets it when it finds an update.
- gonx32, on 07/02/2008, -6/+1I love Firefox and am using FF3 right now and I contributed to the record but I'm not the kind of person who would say "I can't live with my Mozilla 3!" like the top level post below this one. And because I didn't just follow the crowd and say something like that I get modded down. I don't think my post warranted that kind of response.
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Mozilla 3? Isn't that front 1996?
- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -1/+6That's because Windows update, by default, doesn't ask you about if you want to download and install stuff. It just does automatically. And anytime you change it, at least in my experience, it resets it when it finds an update.
- WatchDoit, on 07/02/2008, -9/+15I can't live without my Mozilla 3!
- mordea, on 07/02/2008, -0/+64You're still using Mozilla 3? Yikes--that came out in 1996. An upgrade to Firefox 3 might be prudent!
- netneutrality, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4Can't live without a browser? Eh... :-/
- Ryan0617, on 07/02/2008, -8/+6Well there wasn't a record for it before this ,so i will wait until i see another challenge to compare this to.
- aliguana, on 07/02/2008, -6/+2its the most downloads that have been recorded and verified by Guniness. I wonder how many people download updates on Patch tuesday? I wonder how many people will download the new Leopard release in the first 24 hours? iTunes? Flash player? It's a fantastic achievement so I'm not raining on their parade, just wondering.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/02/2008, -1/+12And -NONE- of those count.
Automatic/Prompted Updates did not count.
Only From-Site downloads counted. - benologist, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2The record doesn't appear to differentiate between prompted, automatic or manual downloads.
From the post:
we’ve officially achieved the record for the “largest number of software downloads in 24 hours.”
All that rules out is updates and patches?
- twiztidsinz, on 07/02/2008, -1/+12And -NONE- of those count.

- jsaya, on 07/02/2008, -3/+19We've come a long way since Phoenix. Ah, the good old days.
- KaiSe7eN, on 07/02/2008, -1/+39I soooooo helped.
- DaDiggydiggyDOC, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7If you build it they will come...to download your great browser. Shows how happy people are with firefox, hell I thought that I'd never leave opera, but I rarely if ever use it and most of the time is cause I love having the speed dial built in.

- henrierose, on 07/02/2008, -16/+4everyone realize this is a guinnes world record.. and not like.. a real world record.. right?
- lcmatt, on 07/02/2008, -2/+3Were you born dumb or did it come with age?
- Cenobite, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Everyone is born dumb. henrierose just didn't make it past level 1.
- lcmatt, on 07/02/2008, -2/+3Were you born dumb or did it come with age?
- foooey, on 07/02/2008, -11/+5Not to rain on FireFox's parade, since I love it, but they're just the first ones to try to officially take the record. Adobe claims they've had days with over 10 million flash player downloads in a day, and as of May 29, 2008, they had over a billion downloads for the year already.
http://www.forta.com/blog/index.cfm/2008/5/29/Sorr ...- KaiserArny, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9These are forced downloads. the 8 million are those that were done voluntarily on their website. The 8 million doesn't even include automatic updates and downloads trough mirrors.
- twiztidsinz, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6That's from Updates not downloads.
- Niz1, on 07/02/2008, -7/+12I actually went back to Firefox 2, FF3 kept crashing once in a while and i didn't know what to do. It runs fine on my Ubuntu machine but that doesn't have all the add ons the XP one has.
- mijelh, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Same for me. I had to downgrade due to constant crashes. It's strange, because I only have Ad Block Plus and Firebug plugins, and crashes happens viewing plain html files (no flash, no java... ok, maybe some javascript)
I hope they solve it fast!- antdude, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1This is why you should wait before upgrading!
- mijelh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I waited until stable version, It's not like I'm downloading every beta and pre-alpha stuff they publish... anyway, you're right
- Fartag, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1I don't know about all the crashing but am interested to hear about the add ons I'm missing out on using Ubuntu!
- vertexoflife, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3All addons work regardless of operating system...
- changyang1230, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I heard that the old version of flash might be the cause of the crashes. Try upgrading the flash and see.
- mijelh, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4Same for me. I had to downgrade due to constant crashes. It's strange, because I only have Ad Block Plus and Firebug plugins, and crashes happens viewing plain html files (no flash, no java... ok, maybe some javascript)
- smmakira, on 07/02/2008, -3/+27Man they must of had some bitchin servers for that many downloads.
- fireinhole8, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3dude their servers went down in like half a second. I clicked on the site right as it was there and BOOM the servers asploded. It was madness, we had to try and find ways around it, but even half the mirrors were broken!
- Pronoiac, on 07/02/2008, -15/+5IE WILL CRUSH IT! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE!
...I can't even keep a straight face over the internet - sillymeganlee, on 07/02/2008, -2/+19As much as I love the "Awesome Bar," it worries me that somebody will use my computer and take note that I visit porn websites. Oh, my reputation!
- BlaqReaper, on 07/02/2008, -0/+9http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9971026-1.html
How do disable the awesome bar ;). Also, you can delete entries from the awesome bar too. Just hover over the link that appears and press delete.- sillymeganlee, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2Haha, you're amazing. Thank you.
- directrix13, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Create a shortcut to 'firefox -profileManager'. There you can create multiple profiles which are completely seperate from each other.
- MidnightRIder77, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1Can't you just delete your history?
Or Google Shiira. It has a private browsing mode that saves no cookies or history. - logic, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Stealther extension? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/130 ...
- MicroStat08, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1That add on is now enabled and ready to go. Thank you!
- flarn2006, on 07/03/2008, -1/+1If you don't want people to know you're looking at pr0n, don't post it on Digg!
- sillymeganlee, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1You don't know me personally. Your opinion means nothing!
No offense. =]
It'd just be awkward if my little brother was all "HEY LETS GO TO BOYSCOUTS.COM" and instead of "boyscouts" he gets "boysfood" and I accidentally corrupt him.

- kiensoy, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7Over 28 million downloads and counting as of right now. http://downloadcounter.sj.mozilla.com/
- borez, on 07/02/2008, -6/+1Is this a record though? There are lots of auto-upgrades between versions on system specific programs nowadays.
Hats off to the FF3 team ( I'm using it as a write ) But is this a proven record?- MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+8...Guinness said it's an official record so yes I'd say that means it's proven.
I think they mean for individual software downloads, not automatic downloads.- borez, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1I know what you mean, but if say Apple sends a download link for a new version of itunes, I'm sure that could easily top 8m in a day??
I don't know, only saying...is it a record? - MavRevMatt, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2No because they'd be using Apple Update. I think the record is for manual downloads of software rather than automatically downloaded.

- borez, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1I know what you mean, but if say Apple sends a download link for a new version of itunes, I'm sure that could easily top 8m in a day??

- SgtAl, on 07/02/2008, -7/+2I downloaded it, used it, uninstalled it, and went back to FF2. Why do they have to add all these "features" to what used to be a clean simple piece of software?
- mistermaster, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2You may be interested in something called "Lynx"
- dagar, on 07/02/2008, -8/+3Would a microsoft patch not easily beat this? Helluva lot of Windows machines with automatic update.
- Chris4, on 07/02/2008, -1/+1"Largest number of SOFTWARE downloads in 24 hours.”
So Windows Update wouldn't count.
Also, probably only software downloaded manually (like FF3), not automatically.
