Reading is fun. - anjinash, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24Boo friggin hoo
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Well then you should have asked your question properly. You asked if there was a way to make a single left-click highlight the contents of the address bar AND the google search bar.
Now here's your answer thanks to a fancy Google search for "firefox ubuntu single click highlight"
First result:

Love always,
Mr. Hotshot. - marktrefgarne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Don't be silly - just substitute Ctrl for Cmd and the vast majority of the shortcuts will work perfectly!
- linuxwarz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15It did, but then again, its not really a dupe. Good for people like me who tend to ignore mass cheat sheet or listing sites.
- Erowid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11And I'll be digging you down for that comment :)
- DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7What's the shortcut to get my stupid IT department to allow Firefox instead of IE.... version 5.
- crawfishsoul, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8More importantly, why?
- Mike.ohara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Wow you really and truly suck.
- hydrokool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You can find all this by going to "Help" in the menu bar at the top of Firefox and looking for keyboard shortcuts and such.
- sorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Haha, they have cut (ctrl-x) and copy (ctrl-c) but no paste (ctrl-v) listed
- dAbReAkA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ctrl + Shift + T - easily restoring a previously-closed tab ;) very useful one..
- snurfle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6One more time.
- electrichead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Thanks for that informative spam link!
- Gutzyshark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Obviously Neiltc153 didnt read the article. Dugg down. "For use with Firefox running on a Windows machine. OS X users should use Cmd instead of Ctrl and Option instead of Alt. Based on the work of David Tenser. Last Updated: 06.21.06. PDF Version Here." Sorry, didnt hit reply.
- WillyWonka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Hrm, it has ctrl-L but not alt-D. Both do the same thing but its a left hand vs right hand thing.
- darrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4FYI - Tab Select on my linux pc is: Alt + [1-9], not Ctrl
- Ramble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So what's b then?
- electrichead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Same for search bar: Ctrl + K and Ctrl + E
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3MySpace is the scourge of the Internet.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yeah and Foxit Reader instead of Acrobat Reader 4 *vomit*
- Ellsass, on 11/05/2008, -0/+2Alt-D is my favorite. It also works in Explorer and Internet Explorer and some other Windows apps with an address bar.
- maestroh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the only one i know is F11, because it maximizes the pron ;)
- gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@bullitt34
> "Is there a keyboard short-cut for bringing up the keyboard short-cut page?"
Not really a "shortcut"... but, if you must, on Windows at least, w/ FF2:
First push [F1], then [Tab].
For keyboard shortcuts, push [Down] 9 times.
For mouse shortcuts, push [Down] 10 times. - barrettg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks that ones Great !
- Lazybones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone know how to turn off the single quote search? I don't know why but it seems to enable on some text input fields and makes it next to impossible to type a word like it's! It drives me nuts.
- datagod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nb+2/q where N = number of newbie complaints and q = IQ of person complaining.
- jhshukla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2my thoughts exactly. but i am surprised that they are even listed. those are standard Windows shortcuts. and same with Ctrl+Y (redo).
- Invid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@crawfishsoul
Thanks a ton for this...that "feature" irritated me almost as much as losing "Backspace" to go back a page. I'm still not sure why they changed the default behavior on that one.
Never even occured to me to google that. - jonester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well than this gives people who didn't see that article a chance to read it.
- polyGone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I always wondered what those green and blue arrows were....
- Bluu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anybody know a keyboard shortcut to cycle through the search engines in the upper right search bar? I can jump to it (Ctrl+K) but what if I don't want to use the already selected engine? Mousing all the way up there and fumbling with the menu is no fun.
- Earthacis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Previously I had Firefox setup so that I could Start typing in a link and Firefox would Fill the rest of the link in for me as I was typing it in. (If I had been to the site before) The thing is that I don't remember how to do it.
This was much easier than having to press the down arrow. Instead I could just press enter. Anyone have any idea how to do this? - GrendelT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Simple, simple keystrokes he failed to mention:
Backspace will go Back.
Shift+Backspace will go Forward. - shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I noticed that. Ctrl-L is a terribly inefficient way to focus the address bar if you already have your right hand on the mouse, which is common when browsing because the mouse wheel is a more efficient page scroller than the keyboard.
Alt-D can be done with only the left hand without even moving anything more than the thumb if your hand is already on the home row. It's even faster if I intend to put move my right hand from the mouse to the keyboard to type because I can hit Alt-D while moving my right hand so by the time it gets to the keyboard the address bar will already be in focus. - sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The one advantage of this over help is that you sometimes find things you wouldn't have thought to even look for in Help, by just browsing the sheet.
- gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1IE5 is full of exploits, right? Just keep launching anonymous (but harmless) attacks, each time sending your admin a polite e-mail afterwards suggesting Firefox. Shouldn't be hard, I saw an article recently about IE6 having unfixed exploits publicly available for something like 250+ days out of 2006 (vs. 9 days total for Firefox). Can't imagine IE5 is much better.
- miestersean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ctrl + G does the same thing as F3 (find next match for search term) and is more convenient to use.
- candiru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just use gestures
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think Alt+D is just meant to be Internet Explorer compatibility.
- bullitt34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is there a keyboard short-cut for bringing up the keyboard short-cut page?
- keitarofujiwara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And Backspace, which is also a shortcut for "Back" is not listed. They only listed Alt+Left Arrow.
- BlackSheep720, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1stupid firefox, caching things from google cache.
- d17182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's a neat one I accidentally found today:
Ctrl+Shift+F
If you have the Web Developer extension, the effect is described here: http://www.contentwithstyle.co.uk/Blog/112/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How is this cheating?
- BlackSheep720, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1im sorry firefox. please accept my forgiveness.
NO! NO! you don't have to go non responsive!
oh wait, I just remembered I opened a youtube video. no worries. - gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Drop out?
- yesitsblake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the above works for OS X too, and thank you so much this will save me about a billion clicks per week.
- sheehan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0CTRL + [Down arrow] works after the search bar has focus.
