- neophit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like http://www.ntwind.com/taskswitchxp/
In the preferences just check 'Minimize windows to tray by right-click on Minimize button'.
Appliation only uses ~440K in memory until you ALT+TAB then it increases to ~1.5M. Once it returns to being idle it releases memory back down to ~450K. - 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1then why have a taskbar? the last thing i want is a cluttered up tray. buhh.
- ralcocer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There'a program called "The Wonderful icon", which, among many other things, allows you to send ANY app to the tray by just right-clicking on the minimize button.
http://www.thewonderfulicon.com/ - unheard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I personally use RBTray ( http://www.preater.com/apps/rbtray/rbtray.zip ). Free, open source, and small (28k zipped / 78k extracted).
- mutant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1trayit = /meh
Dialog Mate for me.. http://dm2.sourceforge.net/ - OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1112k is HUGE. I'd have to use segment registers and page flipping to support an executable that massive!
- mcewen98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I know the digg effect will hit this one, so PLEASE create mirrors and place them in the comments. File size: 112 KB!"
On a 112kb file, highly unlikely. If we're talking about a file in the megabtyes then maybe.. but not 112kb. - dstart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://minimizetotray.mozdev.org
- slowspin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks, jack-u - I like typing that...
- tarun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been using 4T Tray minimizer for the same purpose, which has *more* features than this, but I'm switching to Tray It. KISS factor, I guess.
- jackusage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0just in case
http://files.filefront.com/trayitzip/;4080633;;/fileinfo.html - Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed. It's the Slashdot effect even if it's not Slashdot doing it. Not every farkin' site gets its own "effect".
- slowspin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Raise your hand if you love Fireox!! lol
- wizpig64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great! now i just need one for thunderbird!
- aspotton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Here is a mirror if anyone needs it --
http://www.adamspotton.com/?dl=trayit.zip - seand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thats great, but if the only program you want to tray is FF, then the extension does the job. why use extra software to do something an extension can handle? makes no sense, less you want everything in your tray. most programs have that functionality built into it now-a-days anyways....
not dugg! - MarkByers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Linux users: Use alltray. GPL :)
http://alltray.sourceforge.net/ - VladDrac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, this brings back memories. I used this program way back in the 90s. If my memory serves me correctly, I swear I had included it in a Win95 freeware site I used to run. I can't believe someone is STILL working on it!
- antix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice title. Please...
- deathstorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wizpig64, this app works with any program - including Thunderbird :)
- cds879, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Power Menu... http://www.veridicus.com/tummy/programming/powermenu/
Allows you to minimize any app to tray, gives transparency options, and always on top options. - wickedsun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TrayThis is by far the best.
http://www.bettasoft.net/traythis/ - DiZASTiX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice, but I use 4t Tray Minimizer (http://www.4t-niagara.com/tray.html), just right click the minimize button and it goes to the tray...
- dametenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0er... here's that link I was referring to:
magnet:?xt=urn:btih:3HFWXQ6L2EEJ2IJKQOTZSED3TVZR5EGE - Huskyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm.. this program doesn't work that well with Thunderbird. When i try to use the 'minimize' preference two TB icons show up, and when i try to remove them Thunderbird gets minimized into the NOTHING. The only thing left then is to kill it with a CTRL-ALT-DEL.
- tastypastry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0niiice
- dametenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how about a magnet link for those who like bittorrent?
- Veloxi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree with neophit, TaskSwitchXP is awesome, and includes this functionality.
- rhnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man I luv my fireox!
- heathenx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice little app...thanks.
- TopGaler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice, but this is hardly new...
- FunkyGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet! amazing program, EXACTLY what I needed!
- durerca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0mutant is right. Dialogue Mate (DM2) is great. I was using RBTray for a while now since it was last posted on Digg but missed hotkey funcionality which DM2 has. Also, DM2 has some neat other features and is still tiny in size when running (about 400kb).
- ReyBrujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I second Power Menu.
- cell-gfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Agreed - DM2 needs to be dugg itself!!
- apg88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gotta love it "Copyright © 1996 Computer Technology Inc."
You see how much better programs were 'back in the day'.... - craterburnsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good Digg.
- mindlessxd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://digg.com/software/TaskSwitchXP_Pro_2.0
TaskSwitchXP has an option to right click minimize to minimize to tray, that and it's an all-around awesome piece of software. - ReyBrujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A vote for Alltray under Linux. Wonderful!
- CompleXz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thanks for sharing TrayIt....Just what I needed for OutLook Express!!
- Aooogah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hate the system tray. The system tray must die.
- fkxik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i was just looking for a way to do this mere moments before i found it here
thanks digg,
forever and ever,
amen - Twelve-60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AWSOME, RBTray does it, although not with Ctrl+Minimise... but its open source! :D So I'll try and implement that :)
- hoopy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Man I love OS X.
- Twelve-60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Alright, so which one of the many program listed, will *JUST* minimise with Ctrl+Minimise AND an Always Ontop Option
Twelve-60 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lol I just read these comments and most of you so called 'experts' haven't even bothered to check out the link. The service minimises ALL apps, not just Firefox. The author is gaming all of you to get diggs - he know you sad techies wouldn't even bother to read the link if it says 'firefox'
- wiredclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great stuff.
Dugg - RMuffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^Aggreed. Nearly anyone will midnlessly Digg if it has 'Firefox' in the name...
But not a bad app none the less. I used to use Icon Corral but you had to config for each Window. - TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0why not use the term digg effect? slashdot is gay, and using it as a term is getting tiring...i vote we keep calling it the digg effect when sites go down that are featured on digg
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1BTW, there is no such thing as the "Digg effect". Stop trying to copy Slashdot.
