Microsoft! F*CK YEAH!
Coming again, to save the mother f*cking day yeah,
Microsoft, F*CK YEAH!
Freedom is the only way yeah... - wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MS pwned Sony here. Sony has, however, has announced that they are going to pull the offending music discs. However, I think that they are still confused why everybody got so upset. That NPR interview with Hesse (Sony exec) was pretty sad. Sony (and, by extension, the rest of the industry) just don't get it. They still feel that they have the right to do anything they want to the hardware and OS to "protect" their content.
- TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MS' DRM isn't infectious like Sony's. WMDRM only affects the media in question, not the entire computer.
Good for MS. :) - luke--, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1awesome! Great work on MS's part.
- JangoFett, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice. I wonder if Sony's next crazy move will be to sue Microsoft for DMCA violations in removing their DRM software.
- xodex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^_^ well that's good, I rather have MS drm than Sony.
- Juke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It won't be forgotten, but it'll mainly affect Somy Music's sales.
- rawr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hooray, and might I just say that M$ is so overused that it has lost all meaning.

Makes a change indeed - zoziw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Give credit where it is due. Good for Microsoft!!!
- mancat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"of course, realize that the ONLY reason MS is doing this is because the $ony rootkit opens a HUGE security hole...."
Well, yeah? Would they bother to release a fix for it if all it did was display a picture of a cute bunny and then exit? - mattclare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sony's rootkit could have been Bill Gates Katrina!
It's a good thing MS knew when to come back from vacation. - AbaraiRenji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you guys seriously don't see the convenient timing?
MS was holding back until Sony decided to pull the DRM out of the market,
That means they can now do something about it without 'offending' Sony!
there are no good deeds in business at that level, just good PR. - diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good, remove the *****.
- mrhoaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0of course, realize that the ONLY reason MS is doing this is because the $ony rootkit opens a HUGE security hole....
but good for them anyway... - pbros, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't believe MS is getting into this fray. Good for them. I wonder who has more lawyers MS or SONY? Anyone?
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"MS will put their own root-kit(well already they have tons) "
Why would they even bother? They freaking made the OS! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft > Sony
- mercury81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good job I'm glad to see Microsoft isn't putting up with Sony's crap
- Zelex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Politics... ugh..
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Using my $12.95 CD as a coaster (I got the AOL ones for free). Standing in line at Walmart at Midnight. Plugging my XBox 360 in my new 65" Mitsubishi, Priceless.
- sporkman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, M*moneysign* is overused, it should only be used when they buy another company/ created something that makes them even more of a monopoly. but yeah, I think this will hurt Sony.
- staticten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0great, I don't even know if that thing's in my system.
kudos MS
DIGG - IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope they put some type of DRM on my butthole and I ***** out pirated CD's and kill them
lol [/stupidity] - evil_marty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1action needs to be taken. Albeit Windows is full of holes and risks, Microsoft does try to fix them. And usually if a third-party app runs chaos on they're OS they will take action. DRM !!!IS!!! something I absolutely hate and wish never existed and if it can be circumvented then I will do it. Everyone is trying to make music and videos and software salable physical products with restricted use. Now tell me what is anything physical you can buy which has restricted use? Nothing really. You can buy a CD or a fridge etc and do absolutely anything you want. Yes there is PIRACY, but there are many wants to go about it, and companies take the most profitable approach. But theres a problem with that, you lose loyalty from your customers because you threat them as criminals before they even touch your product. Doesnt take a genius to know that no customers = no money. So really everyone loses in the end. BEST way to overcome this is to market and price reasonably where people wont risk resorting to piracy when the paying isnt a worse option. The world has enough money, dont try get more.
- ba747heavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First time in a long time I want to say "GOOD JOB" to Microsoft.
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Microsoft++
- purplephred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh, lovely. One evil over another. Gee, thanks.
- Mwd500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well done Microsoft
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Sony is t3h h4x0rz n00b. Covering up your malice and destruction as a legitimate safety measure in order to surpass justice systems is the oldest trick in the book (and is usually only [though very] effective when patriotism is invoked).
Noam Samuel
I don't like sending $M$es. - underburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0/me agrees with purplephred
- EricTheGrey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dugg.
Wait, Microsoft is evil, and we're rooting them on? The world will now end as we know it... :P
EtG - gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good job Microsoft :) I'm glad they're dealing with this instead of letting it hose Longhorn computer systems.
- RT55J, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never though I'd say this...
^5 Microsoft! - spinxter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now how about a patch that closes the hole this code exploits? Don't need to remove it if it can't be installed in the first place...
http://spinxter.com/archive/000023.html - Play, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bill Gates FTW.
- Responder656, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0For once, we seemed to have found a company worse than M$.
- RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have'nt bought a CD in 6 years, especially not a Sony music one, but I'll run this tool anyway.
- Nocturnal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0MS ftw. I'm happy with this.
- julian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Because Microsoft is doing the right thing

Help EFF fight for the consumers rights - arlene1985, on 01/10/2009, -0/+0Microsoft sometimes goes too far in its struggle to take over the digital world and eliminate piracy. It would make more sense first to make Windows not just great-looking, but also secure OS. Until now Windows security is something that home users can't really establish. Windows Security Center is of more informative than practical usage. It needs to be complemented with 3d party anti-malware software.
