- will.wa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Looks like this proves all them people yesterday, that were calling in fake, were wrong.
- lightdarknes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does the name change the OS? Didn't think so.
Besides, in this case, Vista means "A look into the future", I think it's an appropriate name. - teamparadox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Vista...a stupid name.
Ill always call it Longhorn and only mention Vista afterwards if the person doesnt know what im talking about,Vista...wtf. - FuzzyBunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Symbolically the name fits well, but in a marketing sense I don't think it was a good choice. Not that, Microsoft has to worry much about marketing with Windows anyways. One of those nice little benefits of being an aggressive monopoly.
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Gotta love the mindless automatons marching around in lockstep hating Microsoft just to be tech trendy.
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I do actually look forward to Longhorn (not windows vista) but that's a queer name and they should change the name before it gets too well-known
- Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Windows XP Pro $00.00
Windows XP Home $00.00 (Both directly from Torrentspy.com)
Mac OS X 10.4 $00.00 (Directly from Torrentspy.com.com) - dandiemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I personally think Vista fits a lot better then Longhorn.
- Adrian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree Vista is a stupid name.
Think I'll buy Mac - dre400, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would get a mac if I didn't have to use their overpriced hardware.....I prefer to build it myself, thanks....and none of the cool-aid for me.
As for the name, I'm not sure...XP is pretty dumb too....but this doesn't really sound like a software name.....but maybe that's the point--a new name to rival "Windows" itself...start calling it Vista, and then Vista 2009, and eventually "windows" is used less and less? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nothing but hatred comes out of Microsoft Hateboys. God damn that gets really annoying.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WIndows Vista is a great name once you actually see the full version of the OS.
- linuxbox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I see MS hired the same guy that came up with the name "attack of the show".
- sonofalink, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 http://img112.imageshack.us/img112/37/bbwindowsvista1mq.jpg
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yea I agree with you, all the Mac users hear that a new version of windows is coming out with some astounding features and they all start crying and creating drama....as if they are agraid Windows Vista is going to increase Micrsofts Marketshare....well I guess they should be lmao
- SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish good on the PC users. I like the name because it's Spanish. I prefer that the mac community stays small (except for the prices) because it should keep all the mainstream crap away (adware/spyware).
- xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Im gonna make a new operating system and call it "Its Not Windows"...wonder how well it will do..."
I think that would sell millions. - monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try adding up OSX + all the OS upgrades they made you pay for. Being a mac fan then i hate to dull your point, but you have to be realistic here. OSX is expensive no matter how much you love macs. Add in the cost of hardware then going mac isnt very cost effective. Hopefully the intel switch will change that.
- Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It bothers me how someone can even be a "Fanboy" of such an evil, massive, faceless conglomerate (MS or Apple). I'll use MS products, but I won't enjoy it. It's like eating a pop tart. Afterwards, you just know it's not good for you.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
OSX is the nicest looking OS out there. But dont be fooled by the gloss. Its not "innovative". Its just very pretty and they benefit greatly by a small marketshare. Reread goats comments, he makes a good point. - Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thegeekpea- I have ADD
- doafhat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if Microsoft is now planning on naming Vista's service packs after communities in Florida, such as Del Boca Vista or Buena Vista ;)
- mattmacg4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Mac OSXpensive"
Windows XP Pro $299.00
Windows XP Home $199.00 (Both directly from microsoft.com)
Mac OS X 10.4 $129.00 (Directly from apple.com) - Luke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw a movie about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs a long time ago. I don't remember too much from the movie. The part were Steve says to Bill his systems are better and Bill said does it really matter. The software business is about market share....
- VictorV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Vista sounds stupid, Longhorn was a beter name. Plus I'm a Texas longhorn.
- VictorV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh yeah, Windows is going to be The most used OS because it has the most and the best software and games, that is a trend that is going to be hard to change, even if Apple computers are better,(Which I don't believe myself.)
- DigitalBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Oh Goody I cant wait to pay $400 for a new system and upgrade my hardware yeah Huzzah Microsoft.
- Geekpulp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Windows Vista sounds like it could actually be worth while to me, try being positive people!
- doug41, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Vista, Longshot, whatever: It's still two years out and losing content weekly! Alas poor William...
- thomas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is more creative than XP but it is still stupid. Yet another reason for me to make the switch to Mac OS X.
- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so thomas your gonng swtich to a mac because you dont like the name?....wow....your pretty stupid my friend...lol
I guess the trend is to be a MS basher...Im gonna make a new operating system and call it "Its Not Windows"...wonder how well it will do... - JimXugle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Re: "Maybe it's appropriate. Vista sounds like a retirement home and a lot of people think Windows is a dead OS walking."
It is. DURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.
Can't wait for "It Just Works" Desktop Linux. *cough* http://www.morkux.net *cough* - SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bithc bitch bitch. stop riding microsoft. useless crap
- elamr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Oh Goody I cant wait to pay $400 for a new system and upgrade my hardware yeah Huzzah Microsoft."
GOOD ONE, DigitalBrian -- laughed out loud. Just do like me hold out until a free one falls in your lap.
Huzzah - Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thegeekpea- I just don't like OS X, I know I could get rid of those features, but even aqua distracts me. There's also alot of programs that linux has that I just like better. I dunno, but OS X just isn't for me, I'm a Torvalds fanboy anyway, so, you can't change that.
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Legionnaire - a lot of programs have preferences to disable the bouncing icons. Entourage, thunderbird, and I believe apple mail does. What other programs would you use that you would need open but wouldn't want distracting you? Otherwise, I say close them so you can focus on the program you are working in.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How can the whole marketing department of a gigantic company allow a name that just feeds the anti-windows movement? With Vista coming out the same time Macintels arrive then we're going to be bombarded with "hasta la vista" articles about switching platforms. It just seems like the name wasnt thought out.
- icespide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0rofl osxpensive I literally laughed out loud at that
- bobetr, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0Wow they should've stuck with Longhorn.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At first I thought "what kind of doofus would applaud the name change of an OS"? But then i read through the comments of the people offended by the jokes. I was wrong. I guess there are people who don't need a free godawful bright green shirt to make them stand up and cheer at nothing. All the good features get stripped and they dont care. But give an opinion on the new name and theyre offended.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Spare no expense at the Wikipedia! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista
- Rave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I could careless. yupp i'm going to buy it. and until all these wankers shut up and make an OS that is SOOOOOO secure and leik TOTALLY awesome, i'm going to use MS.
- Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Billdozer- Because OS X is too distracting. It's really hard to focus on work when there's icons hopping up and down and the fancy dashboard effects. I'm just more productive in Linux.
- haqattaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use MS products. I think the name is weak.
Sure it stands for distant view or something along those lines.... but couldn't they come up with something more solid than a word that starts with a V?
hosta la vista Vista! - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oops typo, afraid
- Billdozer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0by the way, no flame intended. I was just curious
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I like how the one page looks like it was made in 5 minutes on MS Frontpage. I mean they couldn't even make an aliased graphic for the "coming 2006?" please..."
That's so the year can be easily changed when they can't make the release date. - Legionnaire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know the future DirectX environments will require Longhorn, so I'm going to end up getting it to play games anyway. It's as simple as that, Windows is just not a very productive OS.
I'll always have my ibook running Linux! - Billdozer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Legionnaire, why did you get an iBook if you're running Linux on it?
- thegeekpea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Billdozer- Because OS X is too distracting. It's really hard to focus on work when there's icons hopping up and down and the fancy dashboard effects. I'm just more productive in Linux."
Which icons hopping up and down are distracting you? Email notification? And I don't under how dashboard is distracting... although personally I don't find dashboard extremely useful... yet. Maybe one day i'll use it more. Calculator seems to be the most useful. -
