- KingAdrock, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20Longhorn = the server edition (think server2003) -- I saw it in the msdn download area
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -9/+25But what about MS Paint? Won't somebody think of the children?!
- plamoni, on 10/12/2007, -28/+43It's as if a million computers cried out at once, and then silence...
- echeese, on 10/12/2007, -24/+35Cried out in JOY!
Seriously though, if you can't say something nice, then don't bother commenting. You're not witty or cool making fun of Microsoft and/or it's products. - echeese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11But this article is about WINDOWS, not LINUX. :/
- wtrex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10from the Microsoft TechNet site: "Microsoft® Windows Server® "Longhorn" (now in beta testing) and Windows Vista™ (now in beta testing) include many changes and enhancements to networking technologies..."
The same codename for the -server- edition has applied even after Vista was announced as the client version's name. - cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9the server version of 'vista' is still with the code-name Longhorn.. only the consumer version was renamed Vista... or something like that.. I am not sure.
- JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8OMG! my inner-MS-fanboy and my inner-star-wars-fanboy are fighting so hard!
:P very funny comment...
Anyone knows when is expected the vista beta to become availiable to public, like the office 2007 beta? - echeese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Paint.NET is one of the finest freewares the internet has to offer. It is one of the only freewares I use daily. It completely obliverates MS Paint, and could possibly replace photoshop.
- blanski, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Hey, are you in the infomercial business?
- ashleyhancock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Does anyone know the build number for the Vista Beta 2? Is it 5219 or was that the pre-BETA?
- InternetUser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6How long have you been waiting to say that?
- gunmod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Are you nuts? Paint.net has nothing on Paint Shop Pro or Photoshop.
WTF are you drinking? - Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Have you used Paint.Net? I believe it's supposed to replace good ol' Paint.
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If people could not say anything you declare as "nice", these boards would all be blank.
- fr34k5h0w, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ThomasNewman1 yes it should handle it, it might drop you back to the aero basic. try downloading the Vista compatibility toolkit from MS if you aren't sure. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/upgradeadvisor/default.mspx
- MajorDad1984, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is anyone else having troubles trying to "activate" Office Professional Plus 2007?
I've tried....a dozen times already and the damned thing keeps telling me I have no connection to the Internet...
HELP! - wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -17/+18Never mind, I was going to say something relevant & witty, but then I got a BSOD.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Look at thepiratebay and mininova ;)
- blindfaith, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Is there a link for vista beta 2?
- kiwimonk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The place hes getting it from:
He's compiling the code himself. duh - Never, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You can download MS Office 2007 Pro Plus BETA 2 from MS's servers...
http://download.esd.licensetech.com/Microsoft/DMMSO12B/PRO/AKAMAIFILES/OPPLUS-EN.EXE
So far, it works great with me. - tfratzke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Weird thing is..I'm having the same problem today activating new installs of Office 2003. Maybe Microsoft's activation servers are down?
- TylerDurden0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LEGAL beta? Where's the point in that?
- dWhisper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1While I haven't gotten my hands on it yet, if they follow suit with past betas, Beta 2 will follow a slightly different build scheme than previous CTP builds.
This is a new release, and not the one released about a week-and-a-half ago. - ThomasNewman1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah I want to try a LEGAL beta of vista, anyone got a link?
- wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Translation: a BSOD is nothing cold of the beer can't fix! Preferably, a cold Corona. Ok cannot fix it, but after a couple, who cares.
me no comprende espano either... http://translate.google.com - ThomasNewman1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Support. I want support. Oh, and I don't want M-Soft crashing my comp or tracking me or whatever since I'm using a non approved copy of the beta.
BTW, will my 512mb ram, 3200+ Athlon and Nvida 64mb video card on my laptop run Vista? I don't want to download it if it's only going to mess everything up. - gluteus, on 10/12/2007, -13/+12In other words, the mother of all *****.
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Beware of the Winds of *****.
TPB rules. - iflipti, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you can't find torrents for these betas a more expansive torrent search is at:
http://www.torrentz.com/ - TheDevo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7"'We have never had this synchronized in this way before,' said Microsoft Chairman and Chief Software Architect Bill Gates."
The Answer -- It's because you've never had so many delayed products simultaneously crammed into your software design bottleneck and your business model continues to expand into areas that are unproductive and cause you to lose focus. Just in case you were wondering. - uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I LOL'ed :)
Sounds about right to me.
And now, Balmer is hinting around at more delays. When I first heard about Vistahorn back in...01...I was kind of excited. Now I feel like "meh". - whiskeymb, on 10/12/2007, -16/+14So, with all the stories yesterday about Vista Beta 2 being released, Office 2007 being released, why is this somehow digg-worthy news?!
- rude1979us, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm having the same thing. Normally I wouldn't care, but Outlook 2007 took over and my Outlook 2003 is no longer working :-(
- tortan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Vista Beta 2 is 5384.4
Its only available from MSDN, Technet, Private torrents, and the place Im getting it from. No public torrents yet I dont think. - MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6As related to my "Torrent?" comment, I want to know too. It's easier to search for a torrent when there's a build number to look for.
- weiran, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1What place are you getting it from then?
- mehan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0IRC?
- joelito, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Hello...
me no comprende espano - damnyooneek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0i'm having the same problem. office 2007 is trash, there's nothing new worth noting about it. just seems like they switched the menus around.
- grendelwraith, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5Lahey's a drunk bastard and he always will be.
- coronaman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Good call, Davis!
- trollenlord, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Innovation thrives with Ubuntu? Okay.
Why then it looks like poo (darkish brown)? Why it doesn't include SELinux? Why it doesn't include working support for mp3? Multimedia formats like wmv,qt,mp3? Why can't it join into AD domains (without changing the settings actually it will not be able) that is configured as native and secure? Where are the device drivers for basic stuff like display adapters? Webcams? You know the windows looks up for them from teh Intterweb automatically and usually finds and install too nicely. Why there is not usable word processing suite available for it? Why games do not run on it? .. and so on. - Carbamide, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3Did no-one get the Star Wars reference?
- walterd93, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@jorge:
It's available now! Go to torrentspy.com and search for windows vista. BAM. instant public beta. :D - wvdavis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1¡Un BSOD no es nada arreglo frío de la cerveza! Preferiblemente, una corona fría. Ok no puede fijarla, pero después de un par, que cuida.
- HoldenDapen0r, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Best comment all day
- mehan, on 10/12/2007, -14/+5Link to torrents plz, kthx.
- MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6I came here to leave a "Torrent?" comment, but I see I've been beaten to the punch.
