Examples? What kind of features did they add in the last upgrade that made it worth $130. - saleens281, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Can you believe it!?!?! I mean, they should be more like apple... service pack every year. And it only costs 130$... er...
- saleens281, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"And Vista is just pushed farther and farther back."
And vista is right on schedule. Troll elsewhere. - SirBriggs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0thus rolls the ball of dung further down hill as the sheeple gaze on and clap their hooves together.
- DtectiveGFriday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK, but I'm not really talking about Dash board. I'm taking about the programming. what about Vista's "new idea" of using programming techniques like virtual folders, and many of the new security programs look extremely similair to those that have been in use in macs for quite a few years.
So dashboard is the last thing that I'm talking about. But why do you say that apple shouldn't get any credit for dashboard at all? They seem to be the first to have anything like it. ever. I'm open to anyone's opinion, but I don't understand who had the idea before apple, and who exactly should recieve credit for Dash board; if it had never occured in a form similar to the dashboard being used in OS X today. - rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ahh, the Dollar Sign (of maturity) appears in the 3rd comment. Nice.
Anyhoo, the volume of post-SP2 fixes is certainly growing... I wouldn't be surprised to see them release an interim "SP 2.5", "rollup", or "SP2 R2" (gheyness a la Windows Server) sometime by mid-year, just to save on install time. - DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"That's the other thing I hate. Companies that make money.
What jerks. Right, everyone?"
Congratulations for confusing my words. Google has money and Apple over charges for hardware. - panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is part of a carefully planned PR campaign. Next we will be hearing about delays in delivering Longhorn. I'm betting H2 08 for Longhorn.
- ludditemike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Neat. Maybe that means they can hold off on breaking MDAC 2.8 until then on XP.
- traherom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah. We need those patches to be delayed.
So glad I don't use Winders often. :/ - rnick1976, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Actually the dollar sign isn't really needed anymore. What's need is a dollar sign in Google or Apple. Now that speaks the God foresaken truth."

- obby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This was probably posted just to flame.......
Accept it people, they are working on Vista, they will probably need some time to work out the kinks in that instead of jumping ship and working on SP3. Heck, my work is just rolling out SP2. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bink.nu is retarded. The guy can't even use proper english. After he figures out where to use "there" their" and "they're" I'll give him some credibility.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF..... as long as Vista is on scedule, i'm gettin' some pirated Aero Glass
AND ITS NOT CALLED LONGHORN ANYMORE - SurePete, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont care about sp3. i dont need microsoft to release it. you download some uber large file, install it - and after reboot you got some crappy things like "security center" that you'll disable anyways after a while.
- Xipher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Windows Vista = Service pack 2.5
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Demagogue, try this: http://www.apple.com/macosx/newfeatures/over200.html
Many of those features you may not be all that interested in, but as a sysadmin I can tell you that Tiger is a very worthwhile upgrade. Oh, and why don't you compare that list to what Microsoft is pushing in Vista.
Now, as for SP3... WTBF? Honestly, wasn't XP's EOL supposed to be sometime in 2006? I know they pushed it back, but releasing a service pack after EOL was supposed to happen really shows some problems in the development process. I suppose we'll have to wait and see how good it is before making decisions, though. If they add all of the security features into it that Vista is going to have then it would make sense. That doesn't sound very much like the old Microsoft, but it does look like things are changing a bit and maybe they're actually starting to worry about security a bit.
Oh, and since we're looking into the future, WTF is up with the crappy driver support for 64 bit architecture? Hardware companies, you need to get on the damn ball. - yikiad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone know when vista is supposed to be out?
- promethean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Examples? What kind of features did they add in the last upgrade that made it worth $130."
Spotlight --> instant search in Vista
Dashboard --> Sidebar with "gadgets"
Safari 2.0 with RSS --> IE 7.0 with RSS
Security enhancements
Many graphics improvements with Quartz and OpenGL
Automator and unix bash shell --> Monad shell (which isn't even going to be out until early 2007)
Faster UI response
and there are probably more that I can't think of at the moment.
Plus, that Tiger (and in some cases earlier versions) had these features months to years ahead of Vista. - Majin_Raditz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Won't most of us be useing Vista by then?
- Erroneus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0like old news...
http://digg.com/software/Windows_XP_Service_Pack_3_in_2H_2007 - j0keR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Weird, I hadn't heard anything about SP3 until I saw this article. SP2 got a lot of publicity though-- way before it was released. Looks like people aren't getting their hopes up as much this time?
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"And vista is right on schedule. Troll elsewhere."
So it's a scheduled delay then eh? - promethean, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Can you believe it!?!?! I mean, they should be more like apple... service pack every year. And it only costs 130$... er..."
You would have a point if Apple charged for the equivalent of a service pack like 10.4.x, except they don't. The releases they charge for have at least the same number of new features as the difference between 2000 and XP or XP and Vista. So, in short, don't open your mouth about things you don't know. - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0zzzzzzz
were we really expecting them to release something on time?
please stop having high standards for Microsoft - Maverick83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm patiently awaiting the arrival of service pack 3.... so that I can get more annoying pop-ups and get screwed over in whole new ways.
I'm still running SP1. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0longhorn has been in development for a very long time and some of it's "features" were known before they were released in osx, like dashboard which apple shouldn't get any credit at all for.
- sergio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Examples? What kind of features did they add in the last upgrade that made it worth $130."
A lot of the features Vista is including? - Wintrmte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0---

Agreed, even Konfabulator was out before Apple put in dashboard. - DtectiveGFriday, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey, whats up with vista anyway? A lot of the "new features" have been being implemented in macs for years. not to be a mac fan boy, but what excatly is windows vista doing for anyone that macs haven't been able to do for years? Its seems to me that windows is kinda trying to catch up with every one else, not really pull ahead of them. I would love to say that Vista is the next big thing, but I just don't see it competing with the rest of the industry (apple). If any one can help me realize what is so great about Vista, please comment, but I have a feeling my next computer will be a mac.
- spectre_25gt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually implementing something makes a lot more impact than saying you've come up with the idea. Whether Microsoft had these ideas beforehand or not, Apple is the one that actually did something about it.
- Nikon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*edited*
Maybe it is just a marketing tactic in hopes to confuse people about the release of Sony's ps3, when in fact it's just their 'sp3'.
But seriously, when will it end? My guess is we will get into scientific notation service packs.
sounds like a Seinfeld joke the second time around or something... kill me - Nikon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe it is just a marketing tactic in hopes to confuse people into buying about the release of sony's ps3, when in fact it's just their 'sp3'.

Yeah. I was kind of kidding. : )
It's so cute when adults get their panties in a bunch over who has a better operating system. - streetlamp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0And Vista is just pushed farther and farther back.
