- solusdotipse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wow that site made my computer so fast it blew up their server!
- jguilfoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2DO NOT SET YOUR NETWORK SPEED AND DUPLEX!!! If you disable auto-negotiation, you must set your connection to half-duplex. If you set a PC to full duplex and the switch is set to auto, it will automatically drop to half-duplex, which will cause a lot of problems if you move any amounts of data.

Stealing is not nice. - tominator1983, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How many times am I going to see this exact same list on digg?
- oldcyborg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To XUR17.. I Thank You with all my heart. I'm so sick of the digg effect, that I could scream. If I am interested in something, it seems to be a dead certainty that I will not get there from here.
Anything of the faintest, (not a good word). interest should be mirrored for digg readers..
This digg is for you...

- fgsfds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Many of these tricks are hoaxes. The "ConservativeSwapFile" one is particularly notorious, as-is bootvis.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd rather just send people to that Black Venom guy's site or whatever his name is. I don't have the time or interest to know Windows in depth since my career focuses around things like Solaris, HPUX, etc -- so it's nice to have that dude do all the work and explain it clearly for you. :)
- Cippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Deja vu?
- godsfilth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0when i saw this i was like "oh great yet another rehash of' 10 tips to speed up window" or somethng like that but theres actually severel things on here ive never seen before

- jamesburton1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You should really find some tips on finding a better host.
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 Old news No Dig
- vwnlinux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You know it's bad when the server hosting the webpage goes down AND the mirror doesn't respond either.
No digg. Although I think the four step process to install Ubuntu outlined above is probably just as good a collection of tips. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0chris: you can never have enough tips to make windows usable.
BTW, how about some tips to make your damn SERVER work??? - chriszma666, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How many times are we going to see these same damn 'tips'?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think I saw a single valid tip in this. Tuning your PC for performance requires a lot more technical expertise than any simple list like this will impart. Most of these tips, AT BEST, will do nothing. Setting your virtual memory isn't just as simple as setting it to be some multiplier of your ram. The most succinct thing I ever read about virtual memory is that on a system with 32-bit addressing, the optimal setting is whatever will make a total of 4gb between physical RAM and virtual memory, because that's the maximum amount of address space a 32-bit system can make use of. Even that is an oversimplification because there are actually some other considerations involved.
The best thing you can do for Windows XP performance is to leave it as it is when you installed it. Change system settings only when you have identified a specific need, apply Windows Updates as they are released, and routinely (once a month?) update the drivers for your hardware. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"For the same amount of money as a MAc, you can buy a Windows PC with so much performance that you can waste plenty and still be faster."
No, if you try to match up a Dell with the price of a Mac, you get tons more with the Mac. - m85476585, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Deja vu?"
More like Dupe!
Here is my mirror... again!
http://www.matt13.com/uploads_tmp/mirror/speed_up_windows.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nice, yeah some are really old but i could use some of their less common tips ;)
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"In the 'target' box, add ' /prefetch:1' at the end of the line. Click "Ok"
Voila - your programs will now load faster."
Voila - this is false. Please see http://www.edbott.com/weblog/archives/000621.html
I suppose that if enough people post it in their own "Make XP faster" list, it must be true. No digg. - mikes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sorry guys, I didn't mean to say the stuff after old.
- mikes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old, Here is the original
http://www.activehowto.com.nyud.net:8090/how-to/4/11/414.htm - Magnum2066, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How many idiots does it take to digg a story? Oh yea... ONE.
- codeyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One liner for the article "Remove accessibility and user friendliness features from windows"... no offence to the windows camp, those features is why most desktop users use Windows...
If you want speed, do like me... fluxbox on ubuntu/gentoo YUMMY!!!! - EliColburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old, but still, +digg
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0HOW MANY OF THESE ARE THERE GONNA BE?!
Is Windows actually so slow that it requires two "speed up Windows!" articles a week? - motorbikematt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Some of these are fairly old...but the simplicity of the instructions make it diggworthy.
- apache2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA "Remove Fonts"
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA, ***** loser whoever needs to do that :P - WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Step one: get a Mac.
Step two: there is no step two. - nbx909, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2step 1 download ubuntu
step 2 burn ubuntu to a cd-r
step 3 reboot
step 4 install - kl9470spin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1digg effect already no digg
