Stop chatting up jailbait and you won't have a problem. - gurijala, on 10/12/2007, -0/+59Download from here
http://desktop.google.com/download/googletalk/googletalk-setup-testing.exe - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+50Great update. They're almost ready to compete with the big boys (they NEED conference calls/multi-user chats!)
They posted a suggestions survey a while ago, probably worth filling out:
https://services.google.com/inquiry/talk_suggest - enovakrss, on 10/12/2007, -8/+56maiku00,
why do you think, that MSN, Yahoo, AIM and other IM networks don't log your chats? - pierre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29You can turn off the logging of your chats...its not that hard...
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26Why? If it's easy to implement and totally optional, what's the problem? Plenty of people connect due to music, and it's a cool thing to talk about.
- kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28http://dl.google.com/googletalk/googletalk-setup-testing-upgrade.exe
- l337dexter, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28If you click downlaod and then the what's new from that link, none of that stuff shows up...
- siMac, on 10/12/2007, -11/+33A Mac client would be good too...
- ocram, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22No, if ports are blocked, Google Talk is unable to set up a direct connection between two clients, so file transfers will go through a Google server.
- kenok, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23That's sounds like a line from a commercial!
- selkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Update:
I used the link kalphegor posted and it's got the new features...
http://dl.google.com/googletalk/googletalk-setup-testing-upgrade.exe - timwizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21If you put your mic up to your speakers they can ;].
- bmc152006, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26I would use it if any the people i talk to online would use it...
- dono169, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18great update. the voicemail feature is killer
- d3bruts1d, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17The update is only being tested to a limited number of users, according to the Google Talk Blog.
http://googletalk.blogspot.com/2006/07/testing-new-version-of-google-talk.html - dcmax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18The fast file transfer ability of Google Talk is great. I am guessing Google recognized that the file transfer capability of MSN/Live Messenger totally sucks and is horribly slow. Google should make some headway into Microsoft's instant messaging market share now.
- chetanw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I like Google Talk because:
1. The installer is so tiny and ideal for dial up users
2. Voice quality is far better than what I get with Yahoo or MSN
I agree that Google still has several features lacking compared to Yahoo or MSN, but it works fairly well and is pretty reliable. The new features take it one step forward.
P.S: I'm not even considering AIM - I hate that thing - Akkarin128, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Good update, it's what the client needed, with so many others having this as standard. Perhaps now it'll become a viable IM client for more people.
- cinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14According to the "About..." it is version 1.0.0.95.
- Ignignokt01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I've been using this since it first came out. This+trillian (or gaim or whatever u use) is a great combo. I wish you could do chatrooms though, but that would probalby require some kind of server/hosting
- d03boy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Add video and I'll be all over it (even though I already love it). It has a very elegant feel to it. Voice chat sounds great, also.
- Dochtuir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Group conversations is what I really wanted to see. I mean, it's not that hard to do, is it?
- saturnring, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Thats a wonderful upgrade indeed. If only they had support mullti-client chat, then it could become the most preferred IM for windows. Remember, they have promised that they will be supporting other IMs also.
Found this poll, taking count of the new features, http://www.tezaa.com/view/which_of_the_latest_features_of_google_talk_file_transfer_voicemail_music_status_do_you_like_the_most - Jicksta, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14Argh... No SIP or Linux support yet... Maybe next? C'mon Google! More *big* updates!
- krystianantoni, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13i you dont have the update yet - right click google talk tray icon -> Check for updates now.
and in about a minute or two you will get the new version :-) - Gumz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10voice mail is nice!
check out the pic:
http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2857/gmailvoicemailhg5.jpg - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Really great updates, now if only they could allow free landline calls, I'd switch from skype if they implemented that!
- DrRider, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Some clients on Linux can use voice call to GTalk such as Tapioca framework, thanks to the libjingle released by Google. Unfortunately, the sound quality is not matched to the GTalk. So... I need the "real" GoogleTalk for Linux, a very very big update, as well.
- dasch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10The Jabber protocol supports MSN, AIM, and ICQ gateways. You can't set it up through GTalk, but try to install Psi.
- Akkarin128, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You're not the only one =p.
As far as I know there isn't a 'real' Google Talk client for mac - I have to connect to it through either iChat or Adium. - Akkarin128, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12'Google should make some headway into Microsoft's instant messaging market share now.'
Unfortunately, I think this is unlikely. From my experience, the people who use msn and only msn tend to be people who don't know much about computers - they just know about msn, many have never even heard of the other IM clients. I think that, for a while anyway, the only people using Google Talk will be those who already use more than one IM client. I can't see many people switching to just this. - cinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Whatever happened to wumpus.game? :(
- kenok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Dunno.
Never worked for me right from the start though. - ninxmz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Anyone know which version number this would be?
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"So today, we're excited to be releasing these features to a small percentage of Google Talk users. We'll be rolling these features out to all Google Talk users on the U.S.-English interface in the coming weeks."
you get the goodies if you download the English(US) version. the English(GB) version is still .92
http://googletalk.blogspot.com/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Yeah I want a Linux client too...
- ranjit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Usage of Gtalk although low is vastly underestimated, they do not consider the gmail users of the system.
Now while these updates are obvioulsy a step in the right direction it is also ineveitable that these will be rolled out to your gmail inbox.... yes you gmail inbox. Now that will be something...
Also google have also rolled out an authentication subsystem for webapps and installed apps... it does not take a genius to work out that you will be able to use a gmail chat style window on all enabled sites...
the possibilities go on!!
Google Rock! - geckoman414, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@4850lu73
the logging of chats can be turned off with a button on the chat window called go off the record - ethernet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The ( received ) Flash-Based inline Voicemail message ( w /volume adjustment ) is simply perfect.
Long Live Google! - delhokie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Simple, small, easy to use... I, and many others that I know, just want a simple system with which to quickly communicate-- GTalk accomplishes all that. Add the file transfer ability, and it's a fairly complete package.
- blend, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10that's one bigass cookie recipe too. Come on, 6.6megs worth of cookies in a text file? That's some complicated cookies. But they are Super Cookies though..
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Great, thanks for telling us. I was sitting here on pins and needles wondering if you downloaded it.
- shishira, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13upgraded through http://dl.google.com/googletalk/googletalk-setup-testing-upgrade.exe and working fine can send files across now great what i liked about Gtalk is its lightweightness which is lacking in most other IM clients
- twistx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@enovakrss
You're living in a fictional world if you think AIM and other major networks dont log and monitor your chats. I know for a fact that AOL does. - bs0l, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6time to give gtalk another try then?
- KIDCole, on 10/12/2007, -12/+18I'll never pay for a long distance phone call again thanks to google talk!
- SeanFL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6because it does everything someone needs and isn't 100 megs of bloat. I use it since it doesn't have any flashing ads and handles what I need done elegantly. These updates are the main reason I still had to keep icq on my machine...now I can get rid of it and the ads that are on every screen.
But if you want it to also burn cd's, tell you the temp of your processor, play midi files, and buy and sell stocks, you'll be disappointed.
Just because another program does something doesn't mean that feature should be included. - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"I wish you could do chatrooms though, but that would probalby require some kind of server/hosting"
It's possible already. You need to setup a server somewhere (or find one), and people will simply just send messages to the server username. Then the server simply bounces the message to everyone chatting with it.
http://digg.com/software/Google_Talk_Chat_Rooms_Live_Now_ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Me too.
I don't even use Gaim anymore, I just leave GMail page always opened on Firefox.
Everybody that matters is on GoogleTalk now, and as a bonus I got rid of those annoying MSN users. -
