Outside of the US, no one knows what AIM is. - Rukaribe, on 10/11/2007, -17/+117...Digg has made me hate Apple so much.
- Azimuth1, on 10/11/2007, -3/+97This has to be the only app where the UI gets a complete overhaul with every new version.
But, I wonder why on this image it says 1997-2006, not 2007.

1. You can play games - and they're really great games too. It's so fun. The ones on Yahoo! kind of suck and take too long to load
2. The ads don't pop-out - On AIM they do sometimes. On Yahoo, they're ok. They need ads, or else it's hard to keep up the costs of maintenence for the messenger
3. Webcam chats actually work on WLM - they work very nice, and more cams are compatible with it. On AIM, it just takes too long, and on Yahoo! it's pretty tough to find compatibility sometimes
4. It's not AOL - the last time I remembered, AOL was the least favorite company we can all think of. I mean doesn't anbody remember the yucky adware it installed in your computer?
5. Status messages - you can type your own personal message, and have lots of options of being away, online, busy, be right back, tons of stuff
6. Personalization - you've got tabs, so you can see some of your personal favorites everyday, and you can change the browser colors up to more options than you can with AIM
7. Xbox live integration - How cool is that? You can chat with your frineds on their Xbox 360's and they can chat with you. Don't see that with AIM or Yahoo
8. Last but not least, you can save the world using WLM - I don't know if anybody has see this, but Microsoft will give money to an organization of your choice (from a list of 9) every time you chat with somebody on WLM. And even better than that, each organization will get $100,000 each along with what's project with the ad revenues this year. I mean you can just help the world by just chatting on WLM, how cool is that? They have a nice site right here: http://im.live.com/
That's just the tip of the iceburg. There are tons of ways that WLM is cooler than AIM. The only reason I use AIM, is only because it's still somewhat popular amongst high school teens, but that's it. I'm not trying to tread or anything here, but updates to WLM is cool. The WLM community is looking forward to this, and if you don't like it, just go digg somewhere else, and not here. This is just great news. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+50Yes, and a lot them btw.

People still use screen savers? - borninda818, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45source buddy...where did u read it?
- adolfojp, on 10/11/2007, -4/+45I only have two items in my Messenger wish list.
1. Multi language spell checker support
2. Reduced memory footprint - CBTF, on 10/11/2007, -1/+41"AIM really only gets usage in north america. "
*USA. Here in Canada everyone's on MSN as well. - IvanB, on 10/11/2007, -2/+42Somewhere in that thread I am linking to. Anyway, I'm not linking to the .exe file, I don't want to get banned.

- MenthiX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36Official installer (digitally signed by MS) without the messengeradictos.com ads: http://random.menthix.net/ES_Install_WLMessenger_8_5.exe
After installing, download http://random.menthix.net/msgslang.8.5.1235.0517.dll and place (overwrite) it in C:Program FilesWindows LiveMessenger to make it in English
If you are a Messenger Plus! user, download http://random.menthix.net/msimg32.dll and place it in C:Program FilesWindows LiveMessenger too. Messenger Plus! will then load, but not all features will work correctly, some. like chat logging, will not work at all.
A bunch of more screenshots can be found here: http://random.menthix.net/Windows_Live_Messenger_8.5.1235.0517_screenshots/ - IvanB, on 10/11/2007, -7/+37I read Messenger Addictos' version is full of adware so watchout.
- macgyber, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30I'm tired about all this crap about messenger live being bloated.
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/7092/untitled1sg8.jpg
There. Probably more minimal than anything else and still loads of functionality.
If you want to cut the crap out of messenger, try A-Patch: http://apatch.org/ - Verdanic, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30If you use Windows Live Messenger, you need a-patch. It's that simple.
http://apatch.org/downloads.php
.. it's messenger plus without the bloat. - binaryspiral, on 10/11/2007, -17/+40same turd, more polish.
- MrZop, on 10/11/2007, -2/+25Google A-Hack. its a free tool to remove ads, remove buttons, basically lets you completely customize MSN as much as you want.
I have an amazingly sleek MSN with nothing i don't want in it. - Endemoniada, on 10/11/2007, -9/+31Great, more useless graphics to leave even LESS space for the actual IMs. I don't *need* a 5px border around the avatars, I seen them perfectly well anyway.
*sigh...*
Pidgin it is, at least it focuses on talking, not on staring at all the bling-bling graphics. - venom8599, on 10/11/2007, -1/+23It's a contact list window... There's only so much you can do with those..
- estvir, on 10/11/2007, -8/+27If you don't care STFU and go Digg-up another story.
- Sairgem, on 10/11/2007, -8/+25Another retard who feels the need to tell everyone when they bury a story. I just felt the need to tell you you're blocked.
- cdmarcus, on 10/11/2007, -5/+21The current situation with instant messaging is ridiculous, but the general public doesn't seem to care. Imagine if you had to have a Hotmail account to email others using Hotmail, or a Gmail account to email Gmail users, and you're getting close to the absurdity of the current IM landscape. Another problem is that pretty much every major IM service's official client is riddled with ads and unneeded bundles... the only exception that I know of being Google Talk. I just wish Jabber would take off... Google should really start pushing their Google Talk service to non-technical users through advertising, and linking to it more often from their search page, like they used to do with Google Toolbar.
- CBTF, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Seriously, most apple users I see on here think EVERYTHING is a ripoff of their OS. STFU already.
- g4blows, on 10/11/2007, -10/+26Don't you realize that by posting a comment you are prommoting the story more, If you don't like it just don't digg it and be on your way.
- jamend, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18The torrent has an English language .dll. Just paste it into C:Program FilesWindows LiveMessenger.
- stalefries, on 10/11/2007, -2/+17Try converting everyone at your school to Jabber. In fact, could you do that for me?
- thehoodie, on 10/11/2007, -5/+20Maybe if you guys learned how to read rather than look at pictures then you would know that the actual program leaked and not just pictures.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+16everyone at my school used MSN not AIM
- CloseYetFar, on 10/11/2007, -7/+20I can't wait to not get that.
- GawtMilk, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18I like MSN Messenger.
You like Pidgin.
Can't we just leave it at that? You're feel free to digg up new Pidgin releases, why not offer us the same amnesty? - CarlosReyes, on 10/11/2007, -1/+14What INFERNAL ISP do you have?
- etnu, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17MSN is the most popular service, mostly because MSN (now Windows Live) messenger is installed by default on 90% of PCs.
In most asian countries (especially the asia-pacific region), Yahoo messenger is the dominant application. QQ is the predominant service in mainland china, and has seen success in other asian nations.
MSN dominates Europe.
AIM really only gets usage in north america.
Sadly, MSN messenger is probably the best of the 3 IM clients that the major networks are peddling right now, when you look at them objectively. It's video is vastly superior to Yahoo and AIM, although Yahoo has one of the best voice integrations around (probably only second to scype).
Of course, smart people know that trillian, gaim, or adium make the most sense anyway, since almost everyone has contacts using 2 or more networks. The MSN / Yahoo interop is terrible.
Google talk is a great big joke of a client. Yeah, XMPP is an awesome protocol, and i wish everyone would adopt it, but the client itself isn't anything to write home about. - PhillipJFry, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14@Rukaribe
Dude, I dugg that even though I have a Mac. It's too great. - zbarnett, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13Didn't anyone notice that it said "stuck on an escalator" in the away message? Who gets stuck on an escalator?!?!

You sound like a right ***** if you make all your firends switch just because you wanted to - are you sure you have 150 friends? - Zippo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Now, if only they'd update WLM for Mac and add support for video.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10"People use MSN messenger? "
"Outside of the US, no one knows what AIM is."
True, Here in Australia MSN messenger or Windows live messenger as it's called now is the dominate messenger service and will always be for some time because it works with Google, Hotmail emails and everyone has it. - atbnet, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Maybe because the group that released it is... Spanish speaking. Addictos isn't an English word incase you didn't notice.
- MackPrime, on 10/11/2007, -9/+16still has adverts at the bottom? Whose god awful idea was that rubbish? I appreciate they cant just give everyone free software and service, but the ads are really horrible.
- mfearby, on 10/11/2007, -4/+11I hope this frigging version knows how to stay put at the edge of the screen so that it stops moving in a few pixels every time you come back from a screen saver! I'm quite happy with my window placement, thank you very much Microsoft, so leave it the hell alone!!!!!!
- Iammpb, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Um, how about you get off your lazy @ss and click on the link. Guess what's there? A bunch of screen shots.
- SoundScape, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@etnu
MSN Messenger may be pre installed on 90% of Windows machines, but WINDOWS Messenger is pre installed on 100%. - MrViklund, on 10/11/2007, -6/+13Why do you have to write "LEAKED" in big captal letters first instead of making the headline: Windows Live Messenger 8.5 leaked.
Stop with this LEAKED, BREAKING, AMAZING lame things already... Marked as lame. - stuf, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9"The only reason I use AIM, is only because it's still somewhat popular amongst high school teens,"
I rest my case. - NoOneButMe, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9developers have to be asked to code in a manner that doesnt produce bloated code?
- venom8599, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8Works better than Yahoo.
- PiGuy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Link: http://apatch.ikhost.com/downloads.php
Edit: Sorry, didn't see it linked below -- still awesome. - drgmdp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5pidgin sucks. you can't even block/unblock contacts from right click menu. and it looks nasty in windows. i prefer miranda.
- Laytonx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Though it may sound strange. I use msn messenger on my mac.
The gui is great compared to the windows version, go figure. -
