- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Yeah, I jut got it yesterday. I guess I'm 1 out of 250! :P
I applied 5 months ago... - LonesomeFighter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20anyone get Joost yet? i signed up weeks ago and still haven't gotten it.
- JasonPrini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13so 5 hours a day @ 320MB/hour + 10% margin = 53GB/month
So what's your bandwidth cap. Mine's 20GB/month. :P - steven401, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13"THEY" say it's unlimited but mine's 250GB.
/No, this is not an attempt to boast - and yes I do usually go near that cap. - cakesale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12i got it the other day and tried it, it didn't have many shows but i think now it has more... but still the bandwidth usage is a bit intense. especially since over here we have 3gb cap (*****)
- virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Don't count on it. Joost is slow on my MacBook, which is 7x faster then an iBook :P
- alrahman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12/me harvests all these email address for spam
j/k :P - Pepper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I have some weird "fair use" scheme.

So, if I want full speed, I can only watch an hour and a bit of Joost a day :( - brianboyko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Indeed, the content isn't there - and won't be for some time. How do I know? I'm actually starting up my own damn company to gather content and pitch it to Joost, working with local theatre companies to televise content.
This is an amazing technology but they do need to have better, original stuff. I'm hoping to provide it. But it takes a while - one thing that I think backfired on them was that they weren't more open with what they wanted to do, so instead of preparing for this stuff months before, now I'm trying to play catchup, buying the technology I need, trying to licence music, editing video. It's slow going.
But don't worry - in 3-6 months Joost will be swimming in content. Don't worry about getting an invite - there will be enough to go around, assuredly. - decipherd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8i have it,
the potential is there for a great product but as it stands at the minute the content is appauling... - virtualball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It allows you to watch near tv quality tv on your computer
- matthwk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I got it a month or so ago. It has a really slick interface, but it has a very small selection of channels, currently. The quality of the video is decent- certainly a lot better than your typical YouTube video.
- dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The site doesn't define Joost well, what is it?
- spvaland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This isn't some Bittorent community forum. Don't ask for invites.
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3$1?
What the *****, no one wants to give you one for that kind of money. - Alternate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4gg telkom
- cptnjack, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Give us invite... or it didn't happen.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The site doesn't define Joost well, what is it?"
It doesn't?

728kbps is not all that demanding. Pretty much any dsl/cable line running properly can handle this. - kruykaze, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Too bad it doesn't work on vista x64
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah I got my invite about a month ago. Tried it, and while the interface is nifty and the idea is good - like decipherd said, the content just isn't there. Until they open it right up, I don't expect the content to be there any time soon.
- Skyhoper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm still waiting for a Mac PPC version of Joost so I can actually test out my beta invite to the service.
- Pepper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Oops, the table got cut off.
average daily data usage over previous 3 days download speed
< 500 MB daily Full speed (as fast as your phone line allows)
> 500 MB daily 2 Mbps
> 1 GB daily 512 kbps
> 2 GB daily 64 kbps - pu-z, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How disappointing! I got Joost today on my work Mac, and of course the nazi firewall blocks the neccesary UDP traffic. When I get home, the Mac client is temporarily pulled down to do some work on it. Sheesh!
- Mactard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i applied in December and got it in January. not so good yet but keeps improving.
I am referring to the content.
I think they are handing out invites according to geographic location. - Alegoo92, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3:(
I applied 2 months ago and havent gotten an invite - eradicator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Just don't fly too close to the lava, or the troll will get you.
- wtfkeyhole2pro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1OOL here, as far as i know i am not capped. (15Mb/2Mb)
Too bad i haven't gotten an invitation. :(
(signed up about 3 months ago) - tonyscha, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Not yet, According to there FAQ http://www.joost.com/support/faq/Feature-requests.html#Will-there-be-a-Joost-client-for-Linux there will be
- scottybrooks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is really cool. I can really understand where they are heading with this product and i have really enjoyed being part of their beta program. I didn't have any problems with the speed, I am on a 17"MBP and it seemed to be quite responsive. I am also on a uncapped cable plan so there isn't the worry about being capped.
I wish there was more content. I do see this as something that will grow as it rolls out of beta. - op12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2in theory...but it actually doesn't look nearly as good. Obviously it's much better than YouTube, and it may change when there's more content available.
- Lorian, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No limit for me :)
There is a fair use policy, but I just spend the last few days downloading HD content on BitTorrent and nothing yet... - TheDude77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Got it a few weeks ago. So far its just a nice novelty but we'll see once there is better content.
- alman1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0will it work on a linux box?
- Spelvin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its just another setup that will fail unless they get content that people want...
Nice interface, good quality video even on a 76" screen, but content is lacking and I am tired of people saying
"once out of beta we will have more and better content" This applies to all IPTV based programs and boxes.
People want CONTENT not some snazzy front end.
On a side note, someone could make a killing integrating VLC with a good bitorrent client and then figuring out a way to make the client grab pieces in a linear timeline. - jcaino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1anyone hit a limit on fios yet?
i haven't...and i've been using it since tvp - CaseyUCF, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1has anybody got this to work on vista 32bit ??
- bucko158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can get an invite at joostswap.com if you have something cool to offer. There are also contests for Joost invites. People have also been selling invites, so if you have an invite you might be able to make some cash. I saw a bid of $40 paypal recently.
- Pirkel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Just look up tvuplayer. Works for me.
- Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1No.
- PyroKittens, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So, five months? Can we compile a list of time from application to invite delivery? I signed up about a week ago, and I was hoping it would only be a couple days...
- rodrigo74, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Not near TV quality enough, more like the standard video quality you find on torrent videos etc
- djphatbeat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I can see a change in the way ISP provide broadband. At the moment I have a 8Mb line which is uncapped (unlimited) but I have a weekly limit of 1GB between the hours of 6pm and 11pm.
This figure is not listed anywhere on the ISP website only the words "Fair Usage" and it includes uploads and downloads so I and many UK users would not be able to watch much TV.
Since the BBC and other companies are starting testing and will start showing TV over the internet in the next year or so I see another hike in prices for us all over the world ;) - lonelygorilla15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Here's one up on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110097878560 - bluetrevian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Sweet Jesus where are the invites people?! I'm still waiting to hear back about Halo 3 let alone this IPTVish Joost nonsense which seems to be going nowhere.
My bet is on Microsoft to be first to market via XBOX 360. We'll see @ Christmas 2007! - joeycerone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1anyone have an invite? i'd love to check this out. i have some private torrent site invites to trade.
- demne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Been using it for a while, got it the day it came out.
Quality is as good as analog cable on my 40" LCD. The odd freeze but I attribute that to my cable.
Interface is nice I wish it would use the same controls as MCE, I could use my remote & keyboard.
Content is ok, enought to entertain but most of it I do without.
With more/better content I could easly see it replacing cable at my house. - eecue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I just got a token from a friend, and so far the Beta is pretty rocking on OS X, although they did just pull the beta after I downloaded it last night due to some bugs. The only things that I have an issues with are the way that the commercials just start right in the middle of someone talking and the lack of content in the system. I am sure that the ad system will be improved and more content will be added soon. Overall I'm impressed.
- eecue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I just got invited by a friend yesterday. I'm running the OS X beta version, which they actually just pulled today due to some bugs, but it is working ok for me.
- fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Anyone know what the cap is on Optimum Online? Also [offtopic] what is their policy with newsgroups. Do they care what you download?
