- gravytop, on 10/12/2007, -2/+129My buddy Stoey is the dumbest password user ever. (1) His password is the name of his dog and (2) his dog is name "Password."

oh, ok. - roastedbagel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58I don't think "liverpool" is the among the top 10 in the USA though...
- justice7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53this is exactly why mandatory password changes are a BAD thing.
Enforcing strong passwords and letting users change them is the better way to go.
People resort to writing down their current password on a stickynote posted to their monitor
kind of defeats the purpose doesn't it? - kafitz22, on 10/12/2007, -14/+65kill my comment!
- trypnotic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+50@gravytop
I use my dog's name too. His name is currently t7rp!52j, but I change it every 90 days. - ldavid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42hahahaha...when i was young...I thought i was so smart by making my password "password"...

- rprouse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+38Back when I had sysadmin duties, I would occasionally run a password cracker on all the passwords on the system to find users with weak passwords. In one run, several women had the same password;
2hot4u
They weren't ;) - spiritamx79, on 10/12/2007, -4/+34just use 'ilovegwbush'
i bet NOBODY will ever guess that!! - buddylee415, on 10/12/2007, -6/+33No "love" or "god".
12345...That's the same combination I have on my luggage. - Tarantulus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26This just means that there are lots of morons in liverpool called thomas who support arsenal, have sons called charlie, think monkeys are funny, can count to six, and thus only read the first six letters on the keyboard, before getting stressed out and typing the first thing that comes into their heads LETMEIN!!!!
- mark1372, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Or "arsenal", for that matter. I'm sure "footy" and "manunited" are also pretty common passwords over there.
- ajjai, on 07/09/2009, -0/+23(Note, study was done in the UK... which is apparent on this list)
10. thomas (0.99%)
9. arsenal (1.11%)
8. monkey (1.33%)
7. charlie (1.39%)
6. qwerty (1.41%)
5. 123456 (1.63%)
4. letmein (1.76%)
3. liverpool (1.82%)
2. password (3.780%)
1. 123 (3.784%) - lava, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24monkey??? Dammit... I'm so predictable.
- zeeeej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18When you add those up, you get to 19%. However, the site is actually using the "‰" symbol, which means "per thousand". So you'd need to move the decimal to the left one spot.
- the0ckid82, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19haha another bash reader

Actually, that's probably a good way to do it. I remember some months back a security firm conducted a study (in the UK, actually) where they walked around just asking for people's personal info saying it was for a survey. People willing gave over company passwords and information.
Too lazy to find it now, but I'm positive I saw it here on Digg. - inkyblue2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16yeah, and where's "*****"?
- Vergeh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Funniest password I ever saw after our "mandatory secure password" registration came into effect was: f*ckoffandletmeinyouf*ckingf*ck. Apparently someone wasn't too happy that we kept shooting down his password ideas...so we updated our dictionary to include profanity.
- kuwan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14My dad used "password" for his admin account and I had to help him out after he got 0wn3d. When I asked him what his password was I told him that "password" was probably the first one they tried. In looking through his logs it turned out that it was.
- j10s, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16ha i use qwerty all the time. Just slide your finger over the top 6 letters, done.
- ewy99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13On the systems at my work they force you to change your password every 30 days on 3 different applications. After going through my usual passwords. I finally just started going down the keyboard. First password was qwerty, then it was wertyu, then ertyui. I figure that will keep me going for a while.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Bash.org rules. :)
- Tredici, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Oh *****! And there I go thinking "thomasarsenalmonkeycharlieqwerty123456letmeinliverpoolpassword123" is an unbreakable password! :'[
- ahill7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10He said slid your fingers...so in effect you could use your index finger and just press and move across.
- jhaitas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10i've seen liverpool before
i've also seen fowler, smicer and owen.... (for all you reds) - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Prepare Spaceball 1 for immediate departure!
And change the combination on my luggage! - SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Hey, I have a question about generating alpha-numeric passwords. Where can I email you at?
- coolspray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10'Hello' does it for me. For things I don't care about. For important things, like paypal and internet banking, I go alphanumeric. '123abc'. Works everytime.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ROTF!!!
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I love it when you run those programs and find out all sorts of things about employees. "CrackAddict" or "LovesTheCock".
- riklomas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"No way 17% of the people have one of those passwords."
It's measured per mille (‰), which is a tenth of a percent, or 1 in thousand. - BigEazy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Actually, according to the movie "Hackers" the most popular password is GOD, so check your sources, movies are always right.
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"How did they figure out what passwords people use?

Actually, yes. I've got a friend who's a CIS major and as a project he and two attractive female students went down to Charlotte, NC (banking district) and asked people on the street a series of questions, finishing up with "what is your password?". A staggering amount (but still less than 50%) gave their passwords, and some even gave usernames, as well as Home Password vs Work Password. And these aren't stupid people - they're successful businesspeople in the banking and business district of the 3rd largest banking sector in the nation. Social Engineering works. - bluflame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I had that as my banner on my cell for a while.
No one ever actually used it after 'borrowing' it. - ajjai, on 07/09/2009, -2/+9I too have used qwerty , password and 123456...
- robio376, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Did you read the article? He says, "Taking an aggregate sample of passwords (primarily from the UK), "
- mrthebunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Actually...
When I was in high school someone found that there was a account named "secret" with the password... "secret". It got passed along and almost every one in the computer club knew about it.
We thought it was great, and stole the "session" program from it, to allow us to send messages to every user of the LAN (that was in 1993...).
Anyway we got caught at some point, and found out that "secret" stood for "secretary"... d'Oh! - bmorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I was doing work in Lincoln, NE and had to enter passwords for the 46 people that were going to use the system. 36 out of 46 had some variation of the word husker as their password.
- Nivla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I just randomly hit keys and then never log out :)
- abouthere, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I remember about 10 years ago when I was at Uni they ran a check and at least 60% of the students at my Uni had their password as reddwarf!
- ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i HIGHLY DOUBT that flaggalbottompants is in the top ten, so I bet i'm pretty safe!
- TriZz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5how is 123 a valid password - most places require at least a 6 character/digit password. I think the only passwords that I have that aren't 6 digits are my PIN number for the ATM and my voicemail password on my cell phone.
