- ed271828, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No reason why not. Meetro is as original as Picasa (if not more); would make plenty of sense if they would pick it up.
- sovereign3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You're trying to submit a story based on heresay? There's no source to back this up. Try again when you can get a SOURCE!
- scabadone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would make sense especially with their interest in lbs applications with their recent purchase of dodgeball.
- Devi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow! Haven't heard that one yet...that would be great. Multi-network ability and good features that already come with Hello. Hmmmm...genius....pure genius. Hope it's true.
- sweetleaf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Meetro Rocks !
- schwinn140, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1seriously now, who finds meetro of REAL use? how many times to you feel the need to simply go meet strangers in your area?
if you are so compelled, why not walk out your door and simply start buying randomn people drinks? i'd like to think we humans are that social but it's simply not the case.
c'mon - ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why are some of you so excited? Honestly, not one of these programs does all of what MSN/Gaim/Trillian/AOL/Miranda etc. can do, so I really can't see any reason to be excited about it. Furthermore, I'm not sure about your friends list, but my friends won't be switching to a new IM client unless it offers the same feature set and more, which none of these programs currently offer.
I really find it quite dumb how we are continuously making new protocols for IM instead of improving the ones we already have (ie. Jabber). We should be aiming to make communication simple and effective for everyone and not spreading everyone out through a multitude of protocols that are all just slightly different. A standard protocol for IM needs to be made so that whoever wants to make a client can do so and still have access to all the same people as the protocol is universal and standardized. - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 The site states "Copyright © 2005 Meetroduction, LLC.

^^ NOT POWERED BY GOOGLE. - staticfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Has anyone got this thing to work. Whatever "Location" I add to the program, it doesnt find anyone around.
- phishyJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Overheard on IM today..."
what exactly does that mean??? - deadpixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why isn't there more info on the program itself on the meetro site? i have a lot of questions about it and no where to get answers.
- MrZaiko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mutant are you like the "First page advisor"? you check digg every 4 minutes?ju8st to hate on links you dont like... i feel bad 4 u my friend

- Magellan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Regardless, Meetro is a great program that everyone should try!
- sp4rky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0seems like a possibility, but i doubt this is google IM service. but either why its a nice digg. gj
- HomelessBrian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i think we tookout meetro.com :-p
- eemerh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great...another story that contains no proof dugg to the front page. People are using this site more and more like its a forum instead of a news site. oh well...
- jobejobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well it does say "IN TALKS" :)
google's strategy was clear enough with the dodgeball purchase, like someone else said. - digitalunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah the whole 5% of the world that uses other OS's are a huge deal to worry about.
- deviationer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@rephlektiv
adium=MAC ONLY APP - adinb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone from Google or Meetro that can confirm/deny?

- MikeSavior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's cause noone uses Meetro around you, most likely, staticfish.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this meetro thing seems kinda lame. i'll stick with gaim.
- staticfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Checked it out.
Looks cool.. wouldnt think that google would be THAT intersted in it though - gregcotten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Taken from http://picasa.google.com :

NS2.GEODNS.NET - jobejobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Talked to someone at Meetro. A couple of basic things they tell me:
- Mac OS X version at the end of the month
- It currently supports AIM and ICQ, with basic Yahoo support coming in a few weeks.
- An "announcement" will be made soon
So, whatever. :) - dewey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meetro: Requires Win2000, Xp, or Higher.
That's no good. There are plenty of users still in the win98 era, not to mention you know, people using the hundreds of other operating systems around. - GTPBearSuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And exactly what client are you using right now, ForumTroll?
- jobejobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's not strictly an IM, apparently.
http://chicago.metblogs.com/archives/2005/07/aim_friendster.phtml - ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@GTPBearSuit
I usually use Gaim. It’s a nice and simple client that handles multiple protocols and can handle file transfers. Unfortunately, due to the abundance of protocols I pretty much need a client that supports multiple protocols if I want to have access to everyone without having to run multiple clients. - jobejobe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0works for me. lots and lots of chicago people, surprise, surprise.
- deviationer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't get why people praise gAIM? it sucks, it nerfs file transfers and direct connects/picture sharing with people using the normal clients. Its not as transparent as the standard AIM client.
So yah it does have any ads? so f'ing what. AIM+DeadAIM, or AIM+AIMution
Its the same with trillian.
I'll I want is a client that has __very mininal__ interface and works PERFECTLY with AIM/MSN/Yahoo that will do easy skinning support. - rephlektiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0one word: adium
pure love. - staticfish, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This program is USA only at the moment dudes and dudettes. Thats why I was having problems
- ForumTroll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I don't get why people praise gAIM? it sucks, it nerfs file transfers and direct connects/picture sharing with people using the normal clients. Its not as transparent as the standard AIM client. --deviationer"
It used to have those problems however they have been resolved for a while now. For me it works perfectly and does everything I need it to do and I can compile and run it under pretty much any OS I need too. I think one important thing you’re forgetting here is that it can use multiple protocols which the standard AIM/MSN client cannot do. If you use IM regularly eventually it is likely you will want to communicate with people that are using different IM protocols (ie. MSN, AIM, Jabber etc.) and having one client that can handle them all is very convenient. - digitalunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meetro sucks ass.. No one within 30 miles of me uses it..
- adinb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can say that I have a source....who is employed by one of the companies involved. I have talked with execs from meetro who can "neither confirm or deny", but have referenced some upcoming announcements. I'm not gonna pull a "Time" and expose my sources. But on the other hand, I'd really like to find some other sources that can help confirm/deny.
And on the other hand, this thread has taken an interesting turn talking about Miranda, Gaim, Trillian, and the like. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Meetro is ok....but not really a massive hit that google is looking for to put them on the instant messaging map....My guess is they are designing a new
multi IM client - t0ny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holly cow.
I just sent a email about a feature request and got an reply in about 4 mins.
--
my email 11:38PM:
I got a simple feature request that I would see really use full since
meetro wont find my address. It would be nice to be able to enter a
latitude and longitude instead of an address.
their email 11:42PM:
you are on the same wavelength! We will have that out in the next
build next week. Please be patient with us... we are trying to get as
much out to you guys as fast as possible... we had no idea we would get
such a great response. See you on meetro. - LazyBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can get it accept my address that's lame not even if i just put my state in. But its a cool concept. More people just have to use it and the site or client has to have more documentation and FAQs.
