Solution:
Install SSHD and Squid (or other proxy server) at home or remote computer.
From work (school, etc.), open an SSH session and tunnel a port to Squid.
Set your browser to a proxy server at localhost and the tunneled port.
Ta-da!
A SysAdmin can see the SSH connection, but it's encrypted so nobody can that it's acting as a http proxy. Better still, open the SSH session from another computer in your local network and proxy to that. That way your computer doesn't have any network traffic leaving the network. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Don't risk your job... stick to freecell
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Ta-da!"
Haha yeah come try that on my network and see if I don't catch you :)
I simply remote to your machine and see everything you see. I'm cool though I let people do whatever they want as long as their bosses don't come to me about it or they trash their machines. Every place I've worked we've used remote software to see what anyone is doing at any time without notice.
So, listen up kids don't be looking up porn at work unless you plan on sharing it with your friendly sysadmin. :) - wireplay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This app has been out for quite a while, still very cool though - lots of feature and works good. Although, as a sysadmin myself, I would be pretty suspicious of a user who installed/used this at work -- I'd feel much better if you just browsed around using one of the browsers we provide and didn't try to hide it. We understand that you need to check the weather, traffic reports, lunch menus, sometimes -- at least where I work.
+digg - still a neat program - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't want to loosen my job up

What's unauthroized? If you're browsing a site that is a partner of your company's and they use SSL, is that authorized? I guess what I'm getting at is, you can make it appear authorized, in more than one way or another. - jeff4379, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@lexbaby

- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Too bad you can't edit your own Digg posting. I've typo'ed before and realized it too late.
Laughing with you Coffee33, laughing WITH you... - metatron666, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It’s a cool concept.
- ziffel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"loose your job?.... like.. let it out to attack bystanders and such?"
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one bugged by the lose/loose thing. It just amazes me how almost no one gets that spelling right anymore. The English language is a lost art. - spacenettnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that is awesome
- EndlessLoop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is only intended to surf the web when you have the ability to but don't want the people around you to think that all you do is surf the internet.
Ghostzilla does not need to be installed on the machine, it can be ran from a CD and Floppy Disk or just by using a USB Jump drive. I suggested this to the create so that there would be no trace of using the software and the only way to detect it would be through the proxy logs, which most companys dont check unless there is a problem.
-The Endless Loop- - Gryffydd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In the IT department where I used to work we had a great time reading our proxy server logs.
It was amazing the stuff people did with their computers. We had one guy who was married with kids and spent his whole day looking at gay porn... Yeah, we didn't mention that to anybody...
I like all this idea about SSH and squid to a home computer, but I prefer just using RDP to my Windows XP computer at home... Just a tidge easier. - BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1loose your job?.... like.. let it out to attack bystanders and such?
- cooldude127, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is great for me at school. In drafting, I'm constantly trying to get on the internet because the class is so boring. The teacher always catches me because firefox is so obvious. But now I have Ghostzilla!
- cdmarcus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been using this for a while, I think it's a couple year's old now.
- DogWings, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2How exactly does someone "loose" a job?
- MuzikFreec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the point of hiding a browser inside Internet Explorer?!
- buxx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used it al few years ago on an job, it works realy fine!

http://digg.com/software/Protect_yourself_from_someone_looking_over_your_shoulder - oasisbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To everyone who is using "SSH/squid" ... why even bother using Squid?!
Just use SSH to open up a SOCKS proxy. In any *nix you do this with "ssh -D ". Then, just set whatever application to use a SOCKS proxy with IP: 127.0.0.1 and equal to whatever you used in the ssh command. Using windows? Putty will do this as well.
... it makes me wonder how many people have actually done this. - fr0z3nph03n1x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0About the "SSH Squid" method posted by lexbaby: I use realVNC to do that, and I agree, it is a great method.
- lexbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@jeff4379
I live in small town Utah. Nobody knows what encryption is. :-P
Actually where I used this I opened an SSH session from the machine that the support department would SSH to customers networks. I just blended in. - unclejesse0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice idea.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I used to use the SSH squid method to get around an annoying proxy when I worked at an unnammed international trucking company that started with an R which was later bought by a company starting with a Y. ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Couldn't they tie this in with tor?
http://tor.eff.org/
Using Tor can help you anonymize web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and other applications that use the TCP protocol. Tor also provides a platform on which software developers can build new applications with built-in anonymity, safety, and privacy features.
Your traffic is safer when you use Tor, because communications are bounced around a distributed network of servers, called onion routers. Tor's technology aims to provide Internet users with protection against "traffic analysis," a form of network surveillance that threatens personal anonymity and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.
Translation: if your isp is blocking vonage, use TOR. - 7477696700, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Screw that, if you work with text consoles regularly Lynx blends in even better.
- CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Old....
dont worry about being caught web browsing, when your boss realizes the guy who just pwned him in CS is you, then watch out. - MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This would be very useful for school.
- turgiddahlia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ghostzilla is great. People who are only able to say "man, this is old" deserve to get testicular cancer, even if they don't have testes.
- babylonian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha, I've been using it since it was featured on 'Attack of the Show!' back in August.

For once, G4 beat Digg to something, this time by a significant margine.
Anyways, one great feature not mentioned is that you don't need administrator priveleges to install it, and you can install it anywhere you want. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Lol, I spelled loose right hehe thats good for me! :)
- spect3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's really just a text browser; with the ability to display images by mouse rollover.

report['duplicate story']++ - mushoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Give the guy a break. It's just an extra vowel. What really irks me though, is when people use then and than interchangeably. It is so widespread, I've noticed it in newspapers, magazines, and one book.
