- dollars5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+30People like james Phelps should learn their lesson. Dugg to support the cause of Pligg.
As a side note, here is an image from SuperGu site where 3dkiller (Mr. James Phelps) mentions that Youtube layout and style are similar to SuperGu - wtf - is he planning to sue Youtube next ?
http://img485.imageshack.us/img485/2651/youtubeno7.png (warning large image) - JeremyCouch, on 12/22/2008, -0/+13I remember Kevin saying on a podcast that he was fine with or supported Pligg. I don't remember exactly the words he used. He even talked with Leo about it once that I recall. Leo kept calling it pigg by mistake. This was probably close to a year ago.
As far as slowing down the team... well it did divert our attention for a few days for sure, but there's no way we'd give this bozo the satisfaction of slowing us down. In fact, I'd say in the past few weeks Pligg has really started to mature. There's still a long way to go to be sure, but it's moving pretty good right now thanks to ash and kb mostly. - xeno439, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11This guy is a paranoid narcissist. He actually has a mental problem I think. I can't believe he shelled out money for a lawyer for something that has no chance of panning out. I am talking about 3dkiller of course.
- TrailOfDead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Simply amazing.
3dkiller is well on his way to being ostracized by the entire developer community if he keeps this up. These accusations are ludicrous.
Go Pligg! - dollars5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10lol, 3dKiller always keeps deleting comments and even clean up the whole forums if things are more against him, you know I had been active asking more questions on the SuperGu's Nazi forum (before I realized their Nazism) and one fine day - 3dKiller deleted the whole forums fortunately I have screenshots of all my posts - somehow i knew it coming.
And now due to the "Oh *****!" feeling, he behaves like an typical Ostrich burying his head into the mud and locking his forums - thinks he is more cleaver - but the Google cache was more clever to cache every thing that might turn against him. what a retard in this modern world . - merc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I find a few things particularly amazing...
First of all, I find it _amazing_ that Digg doesn't "hate" Pligg, and doesn't seem to want to see it dead. Really. Kudos to the Digg staff - I am really impressed.
The other thing I find amazing, is the amount of stress Eric must be going through right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Pligg development has been at least slowed down.
There are many other things that amaze me in this situation, but that's another story...
Bye,
Merc. - vermin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8His worst case scenario is a little off. Since Pligg's template and therefore the CSS code in question was released before SuperGU existed (this could be easily proved), it is thereforeo also easy to prove that SuperGU doesn't have copyright on it because, here's the key point, Pligg's code is copyrighted as soon as it's created. You do not have to apply for copyright, it anything you create is automatically copyrighted the moment you create it. As long as you can prove it was created first, then they have no case. As for copyrighting layout elements, again since Pligg existed first, he has no case.
Your worst case scenario may include having to drop out of school to fight this frivolous lawsuit. But it would get dismissed very quickly, and there's plenty of case law to back that up. - beatniak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8
....since he’s copyrighting quite a bit of the Mollio code all Pligg templates based on Mollio (which is the skeleton we have based every template on) would be infringing on SuperGu’s copyright if his CSS copyright request went through.
No way he can copyright the Mollio-Beat code. I created that code and not a single line of Mollio-Beat code was written by James Phelps.
MB is a derivative work on Mollio CSS code, which is licenced by Daemon Pty Limited 1995-2006 under CPL: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/cpl.php
As you can see in the MB CSS code and in the README.txt of the Mollio-beat_v1.0_template.rar (get is here: (http://www.pligg.com/forum/showthread.php?t=643) my work was released under CC:
Steef de Winter (CC) 2006, http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.5/, Release Date: April 19 2006
I think the whole SG fiasco is very strange, because I spoke a lot with James on the phone and googletalk in june 2006 (still have his phone number). - shiola, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It would be nice if Digg came forward and stated whether a C&D letter was or was not sent, just to clarify that side of things.
- dollars5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6shiola wants to confirm the statement of 3dkiller made in his forums when he removed the screenshots and demo site saying "Digg sent a C&D to SuperGu"
- HipOldGuy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Noting to add really, just my support of PLIGG and that I spoke/worked with Eric getting my PLIGG up and he was very helpful!
- merc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is really inspiring... thanks a lot!
Merc. - IbnDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I logged in just to agree with you. He is strange
- GamingNews, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4SuperGU at it again. I don't see how they have a case against Pligg. They're just looking for more publicity for the lame SG script. The last time I went to SuperGU was a couple of months ago, and at that time it was just a poor english translation of Meneame. It wasn't even that good of a translation (did they use google language tools?) and wasn't complete either - confirmation emails, etc, were all still in Spanish. 3DKiller needs to just chill and focus on his own product unstead of trying to gain cheap publicity from the success of others.
- dollars5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can expect some good and major step from Pligg team as far as the development is concerned in a short duration and there is no slowdown at any cost. may be since this week we had moved to the new host the forums were off and on for a few days might be a issue but that did no slow down AFAIK.
FYI
- AshDigg has optimized the database calls that it now takes only fewer calls and speed much improved (it is still in testing and I still did not get a change to preview it),
- kb is doing good number of bug fixes (he does this among the stress of exams - kudoos to him),
- Yank, jitgos, chuck, savant too are busy fixing bugs and adding features. (+Yank takes full care of the legal stuff too and think his exams are approaching too)
- many unnamed Pligg developers are posting their small fixes and features in the forums check the mods section: http://www.pligg.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=17 - a small stats that I noticed last week, almost for every 3 hrs a new module were posted.
- it is only me who did not contribute anything to Pligg for more than a week :( - was busy with other dev work, hope to join back sooner.
(Aagh, this was meant to be reply to merc and i clicked on wrong reply btn) - chieffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh that C&D... too many C&Ds flying around. My bad
- DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I originally read his last name as 'Heineken' and thought he was a hero, but not so much.
- beatniak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I won't. That's not helping pligg in anyway.
- DeskFlyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nope. I normally drink in the morning because I work a crappy third shift and don't open my first beer until 0620 or so.
And who cares if its a Monday. :) - Groovel76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Deskflyer
Is it bad that I too thought of beer when I misread that? I mean it's 9am on a Monday. - merc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If my saying "it's really strange" you mean "it's out of character", well... I sent him two emails, and never got a response. If you get in touch with him, please let him know that I would *love* to hear his side of the story...
Merc, - merc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, I wrote the questions myself (Tony Mobily). The interview was a _lot_ of work from both side (mine and Eric).
Bye,
Merc, - everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They should just get into a ring and a have a SmackDown, it''d be much easier, and wayyyy more entertaining!! IMHO
- co72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=RQz&q=powered+by+google&btnG=Search
that's who I associate the "powered by *" phrase with, on the internuts anyway.
but it's been used by other industries for years and years, of course. - MissOki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well done on the excellent screen grab (may I ask, did you use a Firefox extension for the screen grab?).
- igotnothing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wish i could afford to donate to Pligg's legal fund. I am really happy with their software though. It would be interesting to figure out who came up with the "Powered by.." moniker, and get them to sue GU for his idiocracy.
- ThirdPrize, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Huh, kids these days. What are they like? Always suing each other.
- dollars5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1On a related issue this project http://blinkk.org/learn_more.php looks more like SuperGu in font and style - may be another skin of 3dKiller to get donations from people and again it too just displays only screenshots.
- MicroBerto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, I am in the process of joining the pligg team :)
- dollars5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Everyone is welcome to contribute code, bug-fix or even test.
We have an active forum at the site www.Pligg.com/Forums and an IRC channel at Freenode.net #Pligg and all our developers are friendly to help you out with getting started :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats the point in it...

Flight Attendant - http://www.sristysaviation.com/main.html - xeno439, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'd probably throw a couple of bucks there way too. I used the software for my site http://www.thatsprofound.com and I really like it. But I am giving them a ton of free backlinks. But a few bucks for the legal fund will probably be pointless considering this guy is a maniac. A court appointed lawyer could probably win this case in their sleep.

- dandiemer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1the questions kinda seem like they were written by the Pligg guy. Not that I don't think they're right, but it seems a little canned.
- Anteros, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I suggest following the somethingawful method of dealing with pointless c&d letters :
http://www.somethingawful.com/d/legal-threats/index.php - chieffy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1What does this have to do with digg? The C&D wasn't sent by them. It was sent by the James Phelps (3dkiller), a former "developer" of Pligg. He started his own digg/pligg style cms and started copyrighting "his" work and then sent the letter saying they had copied him. Digg is not involved.
- neilsequeira, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0what the hell is happening ? All you attention whores suing each others for fun i think, the corporate american bastards you are. twisted american laws you see, sorry no harmful intents. these laws are misused by people to screw third world and developing nations, and people like us whose memories are played with. The things we used for free from millions of years are now copyrighted and patented by EU and america. the world suffers from attention sickness and easy money attitude.

What is Digg?
