- bhavinp, on 02/03/2009, -17/+270People still use IE?
- xDemosthenes, on 02/03/2009, -10/+231Serves IE right
- hadak, on 02/03/2009, -4/+152I'd say that I use IE only to download firefox...but i'd be lying, since I just use ftp ^^
- KnckrBckr, on 02/03/2009, -3/+138The only thing IE is good for is to browse to www.getfirefox.com!
- FountainDew, on 02/03/2009, -4/+136For me, the add-ons in Firefox are why I cannot use any other browser.
- TheLukewarm, on 02/03/2009, -18/+118Let's just get this all out of the way:
"lolz IE Sux!"
"No way dood FF sux!!"
"OMG u r both right! Chrome is the best google ownz"
"I like Safari! *ducks*" - MillionsLivio, on 02/03/2009, -3/+92Wow, sad to see Opera slipping away, I love the browser personally. Nonetheless, competition is a good thing.
- houndeyex, on 02/03/2009, -1/+85At least IE 6 is on its way to being unsupported.
- fireismyflag, on 02/03/2009, -13/+90Will we get a front page story every time IE slips 1%?
- Takura4, on 02/03/2009, -6/+81I have to say, ever since I downloaded the IE 8 beta, I lost interest and switched over to FF. I thought that the addition of add-ons to IE8 was good and would help compete with FF, but unfortunately now none of my passwords are saved and I'm logged out of pages between switching from one to another. Also, Java and Flash don't seem to work anymore with it. I tried down-grading back to IE7 but that didn't work.
I think I'm happy with FireFox, now. - w3ber, on 02/03/2009, -2/+62It's a great Firefox download-er.
- jason210, on 02/03/2009, -3/+62i hope so.
- iericg, on 02/03/2009, -3/+58I think tight wad business owners and lazy IT departments are the reason why IE6 even exist.
- frieddonuts, on 02/03/2009, -0/+52Opera is doing pretty well because they beat the competition to non-pc browsing. Opera Mobile and Mini are on millions of smartphones. They also created the Wii browser, as well as browsers running on Archos players.
They still need to ramp up the marketing for their desktop browser though. It's an excellent browser that I've introduced to my entire family- they all love it because the Presto engine is so fast. - RansomHoldiay, on 02/03/2009, -2/+5167.55% of them as a matter of fact.
- srg13, on 02/03/2009, -2/+51Not to mention that IE is the slowest widely used browser. And it has the worst CSS support...
- c0ncept, on 02/03/2009, -10/+54Because everyone is fully aware that IE blows big foots dick by now.
- paced, on 02/03/2009, -6/+42Firefox is the *****.
- cowsgonemadd3, on 02/03/2009, -13/+49Chrome is not better than firefox.
- aalmeida259, on 02/03/2009, -3/+37IE has market share the same way Wii Sports is the best selling game of all time. Pre-installed/packaged stats shouldn't count.
- insky60, on 02/03/2009, -4/+37Aww poor Opera. I still tell everyone I know about you. But seriously Firefox takes up more resources than it really should.
- xmykro, on 02/03/2009, -7/+40I tried Chrome, and never looked back. This browser is quick.
- DCstewieG, on 02/03/2009, -6/+38I think I speak for all web developers when I say that these are all more worthy than 90% of the stories on Digg.
***** IE. - Gizza, on 02/03/2009, -0/+31I set that as my IE homepage just for the irony.
- Emachine, on 02/03/2009, -0/+29It's the default browser on the operating system that accounts for slightly less than 90% of computers. The majority of computer users are not very tech savvy and stick with default settings, so I'm very impressed IE is dipping as low as 67%.
- Louis11, on 02/03/2009, -7/+36Oh, but we do.
- chongli, on 02/03/2009, -2/+3067.55% of computers, not people. I'd imagine a huge chunk of those are corporate machines where the user has no right to change the browser.
- inactive, on 02/03/2009, -0/+27It's new feature that adds the words "No Peeking!!!" to IE's title bar
- maglob, on 02/03/2009, -2/+29Is this the Change Obama was talking about?
- TheSkinsFactory, on 02/03/2009, -8/+34I'd like to know why just because Net Applications says it's this way, everyone swallows it like it's the gospel? Our site (Hyperdesk) has Firefox at a much higher lead. We get about 500K people a month. Here's the stats:
IE: 52%
Firefox: 38%
Safari: 6%
Opera: 4%
and so on.
Now keep in mind our site garners more tech-minded people, but who's to say our stats are wrong compared to Net Applications? - inactive, on 02/03/2009, -0/+25No, it really isn't.
- maumac, on 02/03/2009, -1/+24Maybe keeping the web crippled as an application platform is the only way they found to slow down the loss of relevance the desktop is facing.
- houndeyex, on 02/03/2009, -6/+27...and then Barack Obama pops in and says how much he likes Opera
http://operawatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/t ... - dudestuff, on 02/03/2009, -6/+27netscape's coming back BIG TIME in '09... just like turtlenecks.
- yocouchdigga, on 02/03/2009, -17/+38and Apple sucks.
- RansomHoldiay, on 02/03/2009, -2/+22i'm totally indifferent to your comment but i'm still going to bury you.
- chaoswings, on 02/03/2009, -4/+23It is a little strange that you ask that question even if it was meant to be sarcastic. Windows is the dominant OS and IE is the default browser. Most people don't even know that anything other then IE even exists because to them Internet Explorer is the "internet"
In fact, I don't even understand why Microsoft keeps IE around. They don't really gain anything by keeping it alive, the software namely the OS has already been sold to the customer and will continue to sell with or without IE. They should just offer Firefox or one if its competitors. Give the R&D department something better to do.
Web Developers have already made their websites cross-browser compatible anyway. So I don't see any reason for anyone to object. - ferrisnox, on 02/03/2009, -2/+20Um yes it does... http://operawiki.info/OperaAdblock
- rolf, on 02/03/2009, -5/+23I wonder if this is really on the desktop or due to Netbooks and mobile internet devices?
- 2of8, on 02/03/2009, -1/+19I work for a large government organization. They use IE6 as standard because some of their in-house web apps don't support anything else. Makes me sad.
- mrsteveman1, on 02/03/2009, -1/+18The majority of that number are people who don't know the difference, not people who chose to use IE.
- jasonh1234, on 02/03/2009, -2/+19I've tried to help out some "computer illiterates" by giving them Firefox instead of IE. Just the fact that buttons aren't in the exact same place, and "favorites" are now call "bookmarks" Freaks them right out.
"Nooo put it back. I don't know how to use that!"
Half expect them to ask me to have their icons arranged by Penis. - inactive, on 02/03/2009, -2/+19Then you are stupid.
- leeznon, on 02/03/2009, -2/+19Firefox FTW!
- GregFD3S, on 02/03/2009, -0/+17Dugg for progress.
- Gryffydd, on 02/03/2009, -2/+18Yes.
And we'll continue to get a front page story for every one of the following:
Every WINE release
Every XKCD comic
Every Zero Punctuation episode
etc. - inactive, on 02/03/2009, -1/+17Such an odd saying...
- jasonh1234, on 02/03/2009, -2/+18That's practially negligence.
- JonLatane, on 02/03/2009, -0/+16Opera spent a long time as my default browser, but honestly what I think Opera's (desktop) fate demonstrates is the power of open source. By building not only a good product but a vocal community that contributes their own time and effort, the Mozilla and WebKit projects have managed to gain market share where Opera simply can't.
- mason092, on 02/03/2009, -2/+17Extra features that you don't have to use are a real, legitimate reason for not using something.
