- hoofarted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The thing that gets me about Digg is that this article was posted 23 days ago at http://digg.com/software/_The_Great_Flickr_Tools_Collection_ and it only got 8 Diggs. Now it is posted again and it has 53 Diggs without any comments. WTF? Was it not good enough then? What makes it good enough now?
You telling me that Digg did not point out the dupe on this one? They almost have the same title and link to the same damn site. Is this just spam to generate traffic? - BirkBum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The page wasn't working when I clicked on it so here is the Google cache for the site: http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:r0rceP4umJEJ:www.quickonlinetips.com/archives/2005/03/great-flickr-tools-collection/+great+flickr+tools&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=2&client=firefox-a
- Izzie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Digg automatic dupe detection system is really bad. It comes up with many false positive and failed twice to detect a totally identical URL I was submitting. If I had'nt manually double check I would have posted it.
I'm not saying this one has not been detected as dupe, but that the dupe detection feature isn't working as one would expect a dupe detection tool to work.
about more diggs going to this one and not the other, this is the way digg works at the moment: a post can go unnoticed for some reason (posted at the wrong time for example), and a dupe can hit frontpage in less than one hour.
from my own usage of digg, I noticed that I digg for several different reasons:
- to tell other digger the story is worth reading
- to be able to find it later
- because I wanna keep track of something that has been said in the comments
- the title seems interesting but I lack time to check it so I mark it for a later read
and so on
but too often I wish I could just mark a post to find it later without actually having to digg it, cause it don't deserve to be digged in my view.
IMHO the whole digg system in its current version is flawed due to absence of choice given to diggers.
I know digg is supposed to be a news system or something, but I'm using it as a bookmarking tool cause the internal search engine is just not good enough, I use the digg system for my own personal purpose and I believe many others do the same. I wish digg would offer features to diggers like me that would enable us to use digg efficiently in the way we want without unbalancing the whole digg concept, but it's not the case yet... - dbr_onix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think a large problem lies in the search.. I've went to submit a few things, searched for it to make sure it hasn't been submitted before, went to submit the URL and it's been submitted already...
As antoniovjr said, it's largely about luck.. Well, luck and putting lots of !! and "buzzwords" in the title..
Anyway, it's a usefull article, that just conviced me to start using Flickr, mainly the “Send To Flickr” explorer thing.. I hate having to fill in forms to upload pictures to Photobucket
- Ben - antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sometimes it's luck. But you are right, people should be digging the original. Oh well, Digg isn't perfect. The good thing is that this article made it to the front page for people to read.
- LouCypher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, this is an old story. The old address is http://pchere.blogspot.com/
And if you look at the post date: "Posted March 29th, 2005" - vigilance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope that this isn't "the end all resource for anything and everything Flickr." I'm really hoping that Yahoo!, other companies and services continue to expand on Flickr. I guess that I'm being picky about the semantics of that sentence.
Have a nice day. I do use Flickr and I think that it is great. - MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+190% of CurtissThompson's posts are dupes, if you haven't noticed already.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well- it got over 600 Diggs somehow, and the link doesn't even work!
Somebody has a lot of friends out there ; ) - MikeDawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1DUPE!!
http://digg.com/software/_The_Great_Flickr_Tools_Collection_ - rafster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Error 404 – File not Found
Sorry, but the page you were looking for could not be found. - hoofarted, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Then the whole thing must be broken. I tried to submit the link again and immediately it popped to Dupe found, listing both. So, I guess that this democracy does not actually work they way it should. I too can keep re-posting until someone reads it and Diggs. Who knows. People will digg anything.
- Xiol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Dear site administrator.
I don't give a ***** how many people have clicked that link today, your ***** popups are getting in the way of me clicking links.
Yours, Xiol.
