- MikeOSX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Unfortunately, this is a pain in the ass to get to work on a smartphone running Windows Mobile 5.0
- wahooka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3this is retarded. look at this quote from the end of the article:
"You'll have to uninstall and reinstall it every time you want use it to view your Gmail."
oh wow you really figured this one out. what a hassle and bust article. talk to me when you actually figure something out. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3While this does offer good functionality on my axim I can either
A> load gmail.com
or
B> use outlook mobile for gmail.com
I'm not sure why this is useful really. - nxusername, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"kind of screwed"
Classy. - palmdoc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Java app works great on my Treo650. Btw, for even less data use, I recommend surfing with Opera Mini over to http://m.gmail.com
- deohieu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Anyone can upload the 3MB CAB file mentioned in the article, I'm sick of downloading the 45MB file then let it mess up my Windows PC!
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Weather app? I use SBSH PocketWeather - It's perfect. I really don't have a use for those other things, seeing that I've also got a laptop.. but I wouldn't mind being able to use maps easily on my PDA - that would be nice
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The point? Perhaps the fact that it can run a whole lot more than crappy java apps :)
(although I do agree that pocketPCs should be able to run java apps standard) - retral, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3HOLY CRAP! I just found a pocket PC port of the sand game... this is sweet :o
http://manuel.bit-fire.com/ - chesterjosiah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What PDA are you using from TMobile? If it's the MDA, I've written an outline on how to get Gmail Mobile for it.

I tried to get the IBM JVM and it just didn't work. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I do have it doing a lot of things. But I tell ya, I would enjoy it alot more if I could get a decent weather app, gmail, opera, and gmaps running when I want. I can't even do that without getting some pay-for map service. The only app I ever paid for was advanced weather.com info like radar and such.
- spaceman_spiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Java app doesn't work on my Motorola V3 on Optus in Australia. It starts up but just says "Loading"
- lvlolvlo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Stop your bitchin and just get the stuff you need from my site.....it's all been there for a few days now....grrrrr
http://www.lvlolvlo.net/2006/11/02/gmail-java/ - TopBanana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"kind of screwed" is overstating it. It comes with Outlook which is great for most corporate users and OK if you can use POP3.
- doppler00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1outlook is pretty mature on pocket PC now. I'm not sure why you would want to use gmail, when you could use a standard POP account on your phone/PPC.
- cam503, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a PPC 6700 and I don't see why you wouldn't use Windows Mobile 5.0's version of Internet Explorer just to hop on over to Gmail.com...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Honestly, I think that GMail on a PocketPC is unnessicary. Simply enable POP3 in your GMail Options and use the PPC's built-in Mail program to access it.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey, while on the subject of WM Pocket PC's, what're some good VGA games besides Bejeweled & atomic cannon? :)
- Sfmobius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I access gmail thru the web on my Tmobile PDA. Not super handy but it works and I have access to all the functions of gmail.
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Minimo FTW!
- jasonpearce, on 10/24/2007, -0/+0Now that Gmail has IMAP support, you can simply use the built-in Messenger client. I created a 10-step tutorial (with screen shots) here: http://jasonpearce.com/blog/2007/10/24/gmail-imap- ...
- coldrick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Doesn't run on my Telstra Jasjam, either: gets as far as displaying "Loading", then falls over. Frustrating
- EduardoTOWB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0worked fine on my PPC-6700 from sprint, but i did just completely reflash/reinstall/whatever it last week with the newest software update, so that may have helped.
it's actually really nice, having the familiar gmail interface, and not the sorta meh experience of trying to browse gmail in pocket IE. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Nothing works on the Treo 700w. Nice to know the phone cost $500-600 and can't run a java app. The ***** the point?
- jhaydon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1The forum post this article links to basically describes a Java Virtual Machine released by IBM for Pocket PCs.
Not sure about Gmail, but a lot of fun could be had with the Virtual Machine and a handheld. - mickwalks, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2Your mom is a comunist and she goes to college.
- mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2In Soviet Russia, Gmail runs YOU locally on a Pocket PC!
