- ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Bah, whatever happened to the 100% analog way of lighting off fireworks....walk up with a match, light it and run like hell?
You kids today and you're fancy computers....GET OFF MY LAWN! - monkeybop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I saw a good fireworks documentary a while back that showed some of this technology in action. It's titled "Ultimate Guide: Fireworks" and I think the Discovery Channel airs it. Here's a vid clip from it:

"Rozzi: The First Family of Fireworks" is fun to watch too.
Happy 4th! - MrDan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats a cool clip, anybody got a link to the full documentary ?
- deanau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I want that software; NOW!
The closest to that i've got is RCT3 (check rctpyro). - deanau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And ofcourse there's always the
>"Stand by Pyro 1....."
"Go Pyro 1.... NOOOOOOOOOO STOP" - a1programmer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haha, yeah, those are much more fun to set off, but not quite as fun to watch.
- kevinreedy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Almost every DMX pack and controller comes with a giant warning saying not to use DMX with pyrotechnics, as DMX is not an error checking or correcting protocol. With pyrotechnics, you need error detecting as not to fire off something accidental.
- JakeMcMahon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Relavent, interesting and slightly topical. Digg.
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hm, upon further investigation of the images, i came up with "Virtual Show Director" as a name for the program, but googling this didnt reveal any results.
- kd5ftn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's a TV Show called "Ultimate Guide", website here:

It says it's airing again July 9th at 9:00am EST. So somebody, set your DVR/TV Tuner :-) - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes please, I loved that clip. :P
- kd5ftn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I don't see why it takes $50,000 worth of hardware to control a fireworks show. It seems to me that it's very similar to the job of controlling a light show, ala a $3000 Lighting Console. I'm sure they can then make a firing controller that's DMX controlled.
It seems easier than a convoluted mess of PC's and backup PC's everywhere.
