- paddler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use to love the emails they would send me every couple weeks. "We value you as a customer but if you don't log in every 30 days we will erase your inbox, address book and all your archived emails ... unless of course you send us $$$$". Yea that's valuing me alright. I dumped hotmail over a year ago. Why put up with that crap when with gmail you get basically the same thing - without the no so veiled threats?
- saskboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hotmail's virus scanner sucks too. In the past 3 days I've got over 50 obvious virus emails, and it's let me download them into my Outlook Express. Hellooo Hotmail! It's a darn .zip file coming in every 30 minutes or more frequently; how hard can it be for a filter to notice that!
I have photographic proof too that their McAfee virus scanner a couple years back was missing a virus that had been detectable by McAfee for at least a week. Clearly they don't update their definitions quickly, to help infections get out so more people buy McAfee from the ads to clean up their computers. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I use Hotmail because I don't feel like telling EVERYONE I've known to email a different one.
- xino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hotmail provides 250MB of storage, not 2MB.
- BrockH01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Switched to gmail about a year ago and I'm pleased with it.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thats why the new hotmail will be coming out
- outlanderish, on 11/08/2008, -0/+0They're still working out all the bugs - report issues here: http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2F ...

Actually that is the exact quota Hotmail's space was increased to. Not sure how long ago, but hotmail had some scheme where you had to follow a few steps to increase your quota and that is what I did, no strings attached. However, to say Hotmail is a loser simply because it doesn't offer space you'll never even use is far from fair. As far as the spam goes, I don't suffer too much spam, but then again I don't sign up for too much either.
-Hotmail, Yahoo, G-Mail user - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1im still a fan of hotmail. dont depend on anyone's spam filters to work exactly correct, google's suck just as much. i have mine on hotmail to a point where i rarely get any spam.
- motionblur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I dumped Hotmail almost a year ago.
- unk_b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gmail the best of all
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check those guys: loftmail.com
- Bren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hotmail works well enough for a web based program. Gmail has its problems too. It's just email. I get 10 times the legit mail than spam. Maybe it's coz I'm apt and know where not to click I'm just lucky and happen to be in the group where MS products work well all the time. Oh, and I use an Apple, and DSL and Knoppix and RHL, and work for a company with 45,000 users running a MS network with MS servers and Windows OSes. Yep, it still works. Heck, I like OSX better personally, but they all do their job.
- malu, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0"Only use hotmail for my msn messenger, I cant be bothered to use my other emails just yet"
There's no need to use hotmail... just use another e-mail!!! - Hardcore41, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1All I use is Hotmail. Ive never had a problem. 250 Megs is tons of space for email. I dont see whats to hate about Hotmail. And if you dont like it dont use it. Simple.
- scotsman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hotmail is a spam hole. I use it only for registration processes on web forms etc. Gmail is my official webmail account that never gets hit with spam - brilliant.
- eclectro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use hotmail when people demand an email address. Everybody has a "spam" account, don't they??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have a Hotmail account, yahoo too, i use MSN messanger (mac) coz all my freinds and everyone else i meet (not on internet) uses it. its just the way it is, here whre i live (UK). Hotmail isnt that bad for me anyways, dont know your experiences with Hotmail.
- Kula, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hotmail = Spam Filter
- modifiy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have never had problems with hotmail in outlook. It always works like a charm. Their new beta is working really good aside from the few bugs that they already know and are working on(it is a beta). I have just as much spam on hotmail as I do gmail. Yahoo by far i have the most spam, but that was always my junk email, but I know people who have signed up for yahoo and had spam before they even ever used it aside from giving it to family. Hotmail has been 250 for a long time, about a month after yahoo did its first bump to 250. I know you can say yeah its only 250mb I can get 2.5+gb from gmail. Who cares? Do you even realize how many emails that is? I have over 2000 in my yahoo account and thats 11mb worth. How can you keep track of 2.5gb of email?! And who wants to save ever email they recive? I sure don't.
- rc55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, I'll only say my experience - Hotmail has been ok for me, spam is very light (only 1-2 a day and the account I've had since 1996). I don't know about the site itself, as I use Thunderbird and a Webmail plugin to read my mail.
It isn't my primary e-mail account, but for what it is, it's good enough. In addition, it's free - so I don't think people should really complain about it too aggressively, there are alternatives. - 53x11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's free
- ippersiel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1same here... gmail's great
- Qwertie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hotmail spam filters are strange. They catch most of the spam, but several specific series of spam--which always have the same subject line!--are delivered to my inbox no matter how many times I mark them as spam! It's hard to imagine how any spam filter could miss these.
Another weird thing is the front page. Half the time I go there, I get three separate error messages about expired security certificates. This has been going on for months. How can a major site like Hotmail use screwed up security certificates indefinitely?
One thing I hate about Hotmail is that you can't set up automatic forwarding. I advertised my hotmail address for years, and even though I don't want to use it anymore, I have to check it in case people still send to that address. - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hotmail? Yeesh. I spent $5 for a gmail account on ebay when invites were hard to come by to get out of that hell.
- zecreven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have hotmail account for 6 years and its still 2mb. I am using gmail for a year and its more then 2.5GB. Well, I know I am not using all of the gmailspace but 2mb is not enough even for a baby. so I gave up using hotmail. If they had increased the quota to 250mb may be I would stay with hotmail.. but they hadnt. plus the support for outlook is crap. Outlook is freezing most of the times. Gmail has a tons of features which microsoft is scared to use in hotmail. I dun get it.. Why dont they use just pop3 instead of freaking httpmail protocol? Hotmail is a loser.
- KielEWyote, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ha ha! I left MSN for Gmail and I'm glad I did. I still have my MSN account (they let you keep it after you cancel), but one of my accounts is filled to the brim with SPAM. And I do have problems logging in to check my MSN mail... it times out. Microsoft is just sucking.
- c.trinity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For the 2 mb space that MS offers with Hotmail,i don't even bother to remember this service.Comparing with Gmail,Aol that offers 2 gb,Hotmail it's dust right now.
- chevyorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still have my Hotmail account but don't use it except to see what the good spam of the week is.
It was my first email address, from 1997 and I'm sentimental. Maybe I'm just mental and should get over it. - RPGGamer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The majority of Hotmail issues said on Digg are spam related. Here is a newsflash to everyone you gets spam, be very very careful about who you give your email to and keep your PC free from Keyloggers Spyware and you will never be bothered by spam again.
I myself have a hotmail email for over a year now and it is my primary email account but I have NEVER received a single spam message. - pvaculin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have not experienced the connectivity problems that are noted in the story. Like others that have made comments in this section, the spam filtering is the worst. They ought to try gray lining as well as other methodologies on their servers to improve quality. Otherwise, users will continue to use them as a junk repository.
- hollerith, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i use hotmail whenever i need to submit an email address to some site, say to register. in this way the ensuing deluge of spam is sent to a mail account maintained... by billg... just for me... absolutely free... haha sucker.
i reckon most people do the same. i can't believe some people actually use it for personal email! are they nuts?
i use gmail for https email. even though i never give this address out i still get one or two spam a fortnight which i assume can only be by some brute force/dictionary method.
so no complaints here! thanks bill! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lately I've had nothing but problems with Hotmail. The anti-Mac Mail thing is what was the last straw with me. And Microsoft isn't admitting there are problems. That's complete arrogant ***** on their part. I'm currently shopping around for a better service. I'm not saying what because I know you male internet forum jackasses will have something to say about just any service. :-P
- thirteen13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SuperNick (0) You are the bit/byte est on the net!
And you dont use hotmail Wow youre cool. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I stopped using hotmail about the same time I got my Gmail account--June 25 of 2004. I use Yahoo as my spam mail. Gmail as my main account.
I even use Gmail with MSN Messenger. I cut off all ties with Hotmail.
Gmail > Yahoo >>> Poo > Hotmail - t35t0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hotmail = porn attractor
- danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0ever heard of gmail?
- microstuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hotmail users = lamers
*ducks*
seriously
Gmail and Yahoo mail are the way to go. - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Never really had any probs with my Hotmail acct. It's all down to who you give your address to .........
- anagami, on 07/02/2008, -1/+0I use a gmail spam account which is aldimeneira(at)gmail(dot)com
For anyone still using hotmail (or anything else :P ) send me an e-mail if you want an invite :)
just say that you're a member of digg.com :) - stevec5000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0What do they mean growing dissatisfaction? Hotmail service has always been bad.
- matx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Only use hotmail for my msn messenger, I cant be bothered to use my other emails just yet
- r00kie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1WHAT M$ has a product that is poorly designed and poorly supported. Next thing you know people will think their OS is suspect.
- undauntedspirit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hotmails spam filter sucks for me. It rarely catches anything. Just my experience. Yahoo and Gmail are much much better.
- gherikill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hotmail spam sucks, and they really have to fix it so that it wokrs with firefox. IE you can't forward a message without it including HTML markup if you use Firefox, but if you use IE it works perfectly. Get rid of Active X!
- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Remember a time when Hotmail wasn't owned by Microsoft?
Oh wait, it sucked then, too. - whiterocker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hotmail suckage began when MS bought it and moved off FreeBSD/qmail to MS PRODucts
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Come on, GMail rocks. Dump Hotmail at all costs.
- snugsoho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yeah and that's new version of Hotmail is not looking all that good either in comparison to what Yahoo! are doing in their Mail Beta.
