- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -26/+59Um, WTF does this have to do with 'iPod'? They're just audio files.
Maybe it should be renamed to "Hack Your Brain with Steve Jobs' Dick" - bigGdelta1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29If you can hack your brain, how long until someone manages to install and run linux on it?
- syowr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24gcnaddict: since when did hack mean to break in illegally? Unless you have been watching too many bad "hacker" movies that is...
See 2600.com for more info if you don't understand this comment, or why the poster had the right of it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+29Or we could steer clear of the dicks, and play it safe.
- iskatebad914, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17anyone have a link to the mp3's of these? or something similar? im on a mac and i cant download the generator to make the mp3 files.
- bbene, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Then use the headache reliever tones...
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13I've used binaural frequency beats before.. they pretty much just made me feel like my soul had left my body.. i wouldn't touch this stuff again..
- dimplemonkey, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18OK, now that's freaky! Windows only app. Is anyone willing to "jack in" and see if this Matrix is real?
- Smily, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11MythBusters anyone?
- williamhelmick, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19i think people are digging this just because it has ipod in the title.
- Brittle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11gcnaddict
The correct definition of the word "hack" is not the same as what has been made popular by the media. The word was used correctly in the title. - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9the wikipedia article on binaural beats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binaural_beats/) has links to some open-source alternatives:
- http://gnaural.sourceforge.net/download/ (which works for linux and windows... but not os x for some reason)
- http://uazu.net/sbagen/#download (which is available for x but i have yet to try it... and requires that you use terminal) - TVarmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Testing. Gather up some subjects, and tell them that it's an experiment on hearing capabilities after exposure to certain tones, then play standard sine wave tones as the placebo, and then these supposed "brain wave" tones. Ask them to record emotions, state of mind, etc on a clipboard.
That said, who wants to get some subjects and audio equipment? - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12older than the internet actually.
- ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8mac version?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Binaural beats work gradually. You would need many sessions over time even for the slightest effect. It works by tricking your brain. Say you get two beats in one ear, you would get one in the other ear. Your brain makes up the other beat to equalize it and that's how you get the effect (very generally speaking). There was a freeware program called Brain Wave Generator about 7 years back. Dugg just because.
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I've used this before. It's good, and you're right, it has nothing to do with ipods. The software allows you to record output as a wav file, and i've been told that converting to mp3 can cause it to lose some of it's effect. Flac would work, but most portable players won't play flac. I'll have to take your word on the "steve job's dick" part though.
- narduk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12found this while browsing the pages. these people are nuts

Hello, I have not given my name for some reason's I don't want to mention, but for all you how are astro projecting, I give you a warning.... I have been astro projecting for 8 years now, and can at the will of a thought. I urge you all to stop!!!! You have an innocent mind, God created us this way for a reason! Once you have ventured to far into the astro world you will see more than you bargan! I have told my friends how to do it properly and 3 went crazy thinking they were able and wound up in a mental hospital, thinking they could do the things I can! Its all fun and games until you venture to far! Forget the Plane! You know the saying becareful of what you wish for! Cause it just might happen! Well seriously I wish I didn't go there at all now! There is nothing in there but misery and suffering, which will lead to suicide! Ask yourself, are you smarter than the devil? Cause you will see the world not as it really is, but more than ever can imagine! Its not only others you have to worry about it! Its your soul! The Devil will come for you, I hope you have God on your side, cause I never really knew God until the things I saw and have done! I have not let my contact details for 2 reasons. I don't want anyone to follow me, and I don't want anyone to know who I am! I wish I could say more but, I can only offer you some advice cause everyone told me not to go into it. I was warned and I didn't listen! Never leave your house when doing it! Never try and control the plane. Never make deals with spirits you meet on your journeys if you do descide to leave your house! The cord behind your head that you might read about is B/S... If you do your research you might know who I am. Otherwise its for generations to come! I was shown by my soul group in 1990.. But I dismissed it as a dream. I was shown more things through dreams by my soul group! I can tell you what they told me, Never imagine Hell.... You never wanna go there cause once your there you can never go back! You can go there in the plane by thinking about it! I don't know whether they ment in life or the Plane! But I never went there! I never want to! But Satin will come to you in life! As something you think is innocent! But it's not... Never ever let your guard down from him! You can Meet your creator! But only once he has called for you! He can give gifts for life, but once you have seen the world from the eyes of a god, you must spend the rest of your days this way! Never to reverse your innocents! This has changed me for good! Enlightenment will come with time, but its a road I never want to walk again! I'm not saying I have reached enlightenment, But I have been humbled to my knowledge and journey. If you have a question I will answer it to an extent but I wish you all one thing! God's Light! I'm not a Christian or what ever, I have no religion... But I believe God's Church is our world, his voice and presence is not contained to a building or wall but in nature and everything you see! The beach, fish, animals, and people! Look on Earth for heaven! Its right here! - ghelton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8um...
thats the program their talking about - MarkBlu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7http://www.markblu.net/assets/downloads/
I posted the patch to make it the full version for anyone interested in listening to all the available presets on the Web site. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8How can we be sure its not the placebo effect in action?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Im in.
By the way, the site is really slow, use the coral cache:
http://forevergeek.com.nyud.net:8080/gadgets/hack_your_brain_with_an_ipod.php - EnricoFermi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7how do I know i'm not submitting to some kind of subliminal mind control...oh well
- VictorV, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10There is a term for that its called the placebo effect. It is commonly used with pills and drugs that tell you they are going to do something and it doesn't do anything, you act it out.
- MrC539, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes, a link to some mp3s would be nice for those who aren't on Windows.
- FluffyArmada, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For you who argue about meaning of 'hack', you might wish to enlighten yourselves. :)
http://www.catb.org/jargon/html/H/hack.html - rwmnau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wish i could listen to the too much coffee one without buying the program. $40 seems a little steep when I don't even know if it really works.
- eclypser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Damn, I shouldn't have tried the one labeled Brown Note. Now I'm going to have to go buy a new pair of pants.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9this is all in your head.
hmm...i'm listening to something that will make me energized... (you will obviously try to act more energized)
this whole thing seems a little shady and spritual like scientology or wicca. - jawadshuaib, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6From wikipedia:
"Software providers creating packages for audio processing such as Adobe Audition (formerly Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro) do have disclaimers in their help materials stating that the use of brainwave synchronization by means of binaural beats can cause seizures and even death and that they will not be held responsible for injuries or deaths that occur as a result of the use of binaural beats."
careful. - ericmoritz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8My brain already runs linux. When I try to sleep, I close my eyes and see a bash shell.... maybe I need to get off the computer...
- The_Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm betting that practicing meditation in a disciplined fashion for years is going to be more effective than some tone generator. Way more effective in fact. We need a study that compares the EEG's of accomplished monks, who get massive activity in their "joy" area of the brain (I think this was in digg) against the tone listeners.
- karlthebug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There is another freeware command-line app for generating binaural beat audio called sbagen (windows/osx). I've used it, its cool. The site has a lot of info about binaural beats are their supposed effects. Not sure they have all the properties that are claimed, but they ARE relaxing to listen to.
http://uazu.net/sbagen/ - MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5it's not freeware, it's an evaluation copy that doesn't let you import files and it costs $40 to register.
- superalamar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4to hell with that. I ask for deep sleep i want it to be deep dammit.
- spy1325, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wish you didn't have to buy a key for some of the features...
- bordo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+53.1.12 Torrent
http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3344456 - EsotericBoredom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm also surprised by the low occurrence of non digs. With that said I've spent the last 30 min listening to various sounds. I have a minor headache and not much else. That's not to say this theory doesn't have credence but i have the feeling that the practical application of it doesn't so much draw its effects from the sounds themselves then a combination of the placebo effect and simple concentration IMHO.
- eadnams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yeah, some people dont react well to it. Proves that it's doing something tho, right? :)
- drizek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You can run the windows version in linux using wine and it works just fine.
- Kelvington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've used these in the past and I can say the Lucid dreams one, does work, and so does the deep sleep one.
- golemShed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4there's something with making "carrier waves" with the discrepancy of binaural sound frequencies. It might not be much, and it might be different for different people, and I'm not discounting the placebo effect at all.
i first heard about this when my family got interested in "holosync" stuff. I tried it a while ago and i tried to be skeptical about it, going into it with no ideas. My conclusion is that it's doing something, but i don't know what. I know those Cd's put me right to sleep, or at least a rested feeling place. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i don't know... patch... cough* " http://roofi.org/download.php?id=B3wN9hBC3dlkbA4A3WWM " *cough
- sembetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3okay, enough of this... just listen to a few nights of Limbik Frequencies, and you will have enough binaural frequency beats you could ever want, and without all the filler you get from forcing some smacky synthetic recreation of it. yup, I said it... seriously, though... if you haven't before check out Limbik Frequencies.
- piper999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Wikipedia article mentions the apparent danger of death from listening to binaural beats which seems a little excessive.
Won't stop me trying out the sleep one later though. - computerbynar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3it won't install on my machine. I click on the install file and nothing and it says it is extracting the archive. It never does anything though. Has anyone else had this problem?
- swancky2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Piratebay is the best place to dl this file crack included
I know thats where I got it from. I applied the crack and i put in the key and will say it was successfull but then keeps on asking for it. - phil.busch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5And I could die if I was hit by a drunk driver, or if I was in an airplane crash, or if I started messing with someone in the mafia. Lifes a bitch, ain't it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there was a binaural wave gen article recently that also had 'hack your brain' in the title. this just adds an ipod, so far from a dupe, but some people need to be a little more cautious
- omniatlas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2uh. read http://www.bwgen.com/presets/desc73.htm
