- Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It really makes me wonder if this will take the market share from AIM, but I think alot of people are in "love" with AIM and will not switch immediatly. But, cudos to google for another great project!
- DaViking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2All night people have been trying to get this to work with other IM Clients only to have Google tout it as a feature. Have to give them credit for giving some support to other platforms even if they didn’t have their own client ready.
http://www.google.com/talk/otherclients.html - moaner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Right now - this sucks:
"Google Talk currently does not encrypt chats or calls"
I won't use this until they add encryption at least to calls, no-one should...it's a must these days. - Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't have anyone to talk to *cries*
- Brak710101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not as good as MSN? Dude, MSN can't compare to AIM, and this surpasses AIM...
- Dash-2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm.. I'm thinking the #1 story on diggnation..
Or is it just me?

hersheycub@gmail.com - CMHDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For other people IM users (AIM, Yahoo, MSN) to be able to talk to Google Talk users, Google needs to install the transports/gateways on the talk.google.com servers. Using Exodus I browsed the server and found no transports installed on talk.google.com so if I am understanding this all correctly, right now it can't be done. However if they were bugged enough maybe it would? I don't know that Google wants to dabble in that murky water since Yahoo and M$ are direct competitors in not only chat but search and e-mail. I don't know what kind of cease and desist they might send Google's way for installing the transports.
- renn.02, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1heyy everyone add me =)

Big Brother anyone? - Nowheredan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good god, do you people know what the word "monopoly" even means? Hint: It's NOT a company that does everything.
- Lumbeekid06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Steps To Controlling The World.
1. Make People Trust You
2. Create A Search Engine
3. Make Any Place On Gods Green Earth Viewable
4. Make An E-mail Client
5. Create An Im Client
(not in correct order) - CMHDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Fact is - this is a rushed product, it has no encryption, it only supports Windows, and it offers nothing new. Open your eyes!"
Well it *is* different because it was released by one of the most powerful tech companies running today, it's K.I.S.S. and it uses open protocol standards unlike all the other heavy hitters (Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ). Yes Jabber has been using an open standard for years but quite honestly, they don't swing as big a bat as Google does globally.
Should people be reminded that this is a BETA release? - micklerlop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1encryption, video chat are must have's
free calls to regular numbers, display picture, nice searchable chat log viewer and lots more are would be nice to have's. - daub815, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now I just have to switch all my friends to Google Talk and not AIM.
- Hitchhiker90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, for all the hype this client is pretty useless. It doesn't do anything that others don't already do.
- atezun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well looks like Jabber is just about to hit critical mass
- mutant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1spambots are going to LOVE this page..
- 7of7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In other news the religion Googlism has passed Mormonism for the most rabid followers.
- patrickweber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol, ironically enough, google talk is by invite only when you think about it (since it relys on your Gmail account, and gmail is by invite)
- RootDaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love how so many of you are blindly giving away email addresses to try out this program.
"Hi, you don't know me. ....Hello?"
"Sorry, I was talking to 25 other people I don't know."
"This is kewl."
"Yeah, it works much like the IM tecnology we've been using for years now."
"Yeah, but its from Google."
"Yeah. It's so much better typing in this than any other IM service. My fingers are much happier"
"I lost my virginity to Google Image Search."
"....."
"Hello?"
"I have to talk to someone else I don't know now. Later." - aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1fastest rising story ever?
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Fact is - this is a rushed product, it has no encryption, it only supports Windows, and it offers nothing new. Open your eyes!"
You people and your COMPLAINING. This is a BETA program, released less than an hour ago! - bonlebon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OFF TOPIC

- manatee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0figured out how to broadcast mp3's from my itunes over google talk...
IM me at manateemedia at gmail.com to listen - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks great but is featureless for now....I'm just gonna use trillian pro to connect to it. No more need for gmail notifier with trillian telling me when I have gmail now. I think in time it will definatly prove to be a challenge to trillian free edition and maybe the pro version will go for free?!?
Anyways how do I connect to talk.google.com with trillian?!? - manatee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone have any idea how you could output music on itunes (on a PC) through Google talk? without a mic?
- Prod_Deity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Might as well put mine in here too.....

- racaruso, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Add away!
RACARUSO@GMAIL.COM - spadin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like Google as much as the next guy. But, this can hardly be called the "best IM client." You get no encryption, no file transfer, it's windows-only, plus they took away the nice ads (just kidding.) Anyway, it's cool that everyone is excited about this, but when you really think about it, all they did was make a Jabber network and code a stripped down client.

go to the speaker in the taskbar and double click it then click options then properties then bullet recording make sure stereo mix is checked on the bottom then click ok now go to stereo mix and click select.
this works in skype but just keep the window open because sometimes the program will change it to mic. hope this helps - ollys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Add me up Skotnicki at Gmail.com
- mrjkwik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@moaner
[dl'd and installed, just havent used yet. but for all those that "dont get it", the point is if you want a clean client without the crap advertising, and the unused features, this is the one.]
pointing out that it is basic, very few features, as of now, no adverts
[the only other features that would be nice to see is maybe video and ftp, but other than that, they can keep the rest out.]
ok, i admit, i forgot about the encrytion. but over all, thats not praise, thats critisizm
[if you like or need all the other stuff, stick with aim/msn/yahoo.]
pretty obvious what was meant there. dont like it, dont need it, dont use it.
[this dl'd, installed, and opened in less than 10 seconds for me.] praising the size of the program
so no, i never said it was "wonderful", nor implied it was perfect. i concede you have a point on the encryption. just dont agree with my comment being "nonsense" compared with many of the other posts here. - donzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah GTalk....Now if i just had real friends with gmail accounts. And if they even cared about Google Talk...I Hate my Friends :(
