- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, use firefox with adblock. I didn't even know there was advertising on the page till you told me.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Further proof that google is becoming evil, it has made a deal with the bloatware/ scareware providor that is Norton/Scaremantec. I installed a copy of norton av on my clients computer at their request and was scared sh*tless by it. You are protected from 64000000000 security threats........
Problme was it didn;t remove one of the virus's that were on the machine, so I had to install old freeware AVAST. Wiped it off in about 10 minutes and didn't slow the machine down - ThePDW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google Pack- Aka, Google for idiots. I don't want their stupid program running in my memory checking for updates.
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just checked the link in IE and it worked as well no pop ups. Me thinks you have a spyware issue. go to download.com and install adaware.
- sanmarcos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Google is becoming evil and bloated.
- coolhotlinks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The google pack page allows you to pick out the software you want. I just scored the old version of acrobat reader. The page you want for this is here:

Enjoy! - codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the concept of giving users an easy way of updating important software. However, the software thats so far included in google pack... come on. Why not bundle important apps such as firefox and avast etc etc vs things like screensavers....
- Vector713, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i've got nothing against norton, and i don't know why anyone else does either... i've put it on other people's computers, and they like it too. it works...plain and simple. i suppose i must be lucky or something, but then again, i don't go looking for things to complain about with software either...
nothing's perfect ;) - mikecpeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also can include Google Video. Wonder what that is....
- valen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For quick reference...

pretty ***** trashy if you ask me... i wish they would make picasa's design their trademark - DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Never mind it does have Firefox. But still Real Player and Trillian... UGH!
- MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Please send me the cd version, I could use a new coaster.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does this come with 1000 free hours of AOL too? LOL
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use a Mac. I have no need for Norton and never saw any of the popups and spyware crap other people did.
Macintosh--because life is short. - drag0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is google trying to implement Linux features on windows? This sounds just like what apt/yum/etc does. It also gets people more locked into google and its services. The more services they offer for free, means more money for google from ads and product placement/bundling. How much are norton paying them? IMO, Gmail is their only good service. Their search is becomming bloated and less relevant every week (always doubling the number of indexed pages imo halves the relavancy of the results).

- SilverRocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone who doubts that Google will be as reviled as Microsoft within 10 years can buy some Florida swampland from me any time.
- ting, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amazing - ROFL
a1lostnomad - I bet you are in some way involved here, right?! You are thinking exactly the way google do about the users and Web from a long time. And it's incorrect.
Potential?? Do you think there is any potential in catching only the not so savvy net-users? If you do - think twice. These old ppl. you are talking about are dying crew. And new, clever and net-aware generation is coming. I can say it's already here. Just look around.
And pls. if you really wanna use words like "pathetic", try not to act this way. - a1lostnomad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a pathetic bunch. This pack is amazing, its just that your too geeky to see the potential...
I work on computers a lot, most of the time for old people that know little about spyware or keeping their software up to date. Now every computer I rebuild I can just head over to Google and install this pack that has everything a new user needs and more. Just the pack would be great, but they even made it better by making it easy to keep all of the software updated.
I do disagree with the Norton part though. They should have used AVG (best) or a Trend Micro solution (better than norton). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm, Google, the next AOL? :)
- ting, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can believe it! It seems that Google went further with treating users like dumbasses. Why the hell I need Google to give me these free programs that I can have myself?! Just because it's Google? Norton, RealPlayer... WTF!?
They started cashing their name too fast.
I'm not sure, but I think there is someone new in this company making big decisions and this guy is wrong! Or they all are so occupied in financial matters that slightly lose the vision that made them what are they now. - pumbiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow. Why would someone post the link to a foreign site? There are English versions since most of us speak the freakin language. And yes, shame on Google for partnering with Symantec. WTF?
- fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0google is doing to much. why can't they just focus on a few things.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The begining of the end? This pack is utter crap and worthless. Are people too stupid to find software and download it themselves? And its not like they are pushing any good software here, as others have suggested Norton is a joke and Foxit completely owns Adobe Reader. It doesnt even have Firefox in it. WTF google?
- cyberdork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google starts to make the same mistake as MS, trying to get their foot into every market just because they have the cash to do so. But in the long run this will produce many mediocre products between a few brilliant ones. And *poof* their reputation is gone.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I reccomend people send their suggestions to google about this. I just did.
http://www.google.com/support/pack/bin/answer.py?answer=28079 - xtac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah this pack is utter useless, even for new computer users.
I see no point in this other than we have a pack.
I do hope they edited nortons source to stop huge resources and 332232 services from running, google should buy norton and make it simple but at the same time keep it's virus detection good, than the world would be better. - TheSiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google Pack.. beta. What a surprise...
- lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow everyone hates google now all of the sudden. you know they couldn't sell copyright videos without DRM protection, the law wouldn't let them. As for this, alot of people really don't know what they should download on their PCs, this provides them with mostly good software that they otherwise wouldn't be aware of. some computer nerds are awfully fickle, a day ago google was still the champion of the people.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The great thing about this is that it allows people like us to install all these great aps (minus Norton) at the same time, while keeping them up to date, on parents (or stupid friends) computers.
- KB3JUV, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like this idea...I didn't install the non google stuff from it, but at least it will keep my google stuff updated now. Something that hasn't quite worked for Google. Great idea google.
- mtupker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know what all the complaining is about. You can select which programs you want in you own customized package. I like it.
- Wang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think Google is usually quite innovative with their ideas/releases - but this is truly nothing special imho, unless I am missing something :)
- flake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Page didn't cause any problems loading in Mozilla and denying all cookies. I'm not into this google pack thing since it does have a lot of bloatware in it. Trillian, Norton, others. Still others may like it and the screen shot is right there, so dugg
- evizaer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But i don't want to see screenshots of Republican Sen. Robert Frist.
- cohman2001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it is already out! pack.google.com!
- FlyboyP, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It seems to me like an attempt to get "placement" on users computers, maybe get em dependent on the update notifier. Because, remember folks, Google is first and foremost an advertiser. Everything they do has a profit motive. They subsidize these products to make you love them, the benevolent rulers of the web.
"de parvus grandis a cervus erit" - TKDWILSON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""""google is doing to much. why can't they just focus on a few things.""""
I wish the opposite. I wish they would expand more. Like make google talk into a cheap VOIP service with VOIP internet cell phones.

Right, but simply installing things like AdAware are not going to keep people Spyware free - they still have to run it! - pynej, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good for the sloower users....
- TheMJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hm, so like yum or apt, but for windows! I digg.
- Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To add to my above comment...
A really cool app would allow you to enter the names of the apps you use, and on request tell you of any available updates. This would be great, but I would not want it running in the systray like this google pack does. - korteenea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0One word: Gimmick.
- KriTenKs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The google pack isnt that evil. Its pick and mix, if you dont like real player(then again who does) then dont pick it. Remember its google, theyre not going to make you download it.
- Standaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Seems like Google prefers Trillian over Google Talk...
- Continuum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I personally would never download the pack but I would gladly download it for my parents or my non-computer literate friends.
While everyone here likely knows how to avoid spyware and adware, many don't, hence why it is so prominent on the internet. If Google helps inform people about these things, the internet can simply be a better place for everyone. - Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0a) I don't want another app in my systray, hogging resources and calling home every ten minutes.
b) I don't want Symantec or Mcaffee anywhere near my computers.
I don't know what to make of this pack. I suppose it's valuable to some people, but I normally hear about updates on the day they are released anyway.
This is not as cool as I expect from google. -
