- holyskeleton, on 12/04/2008, -6/+97when are they gonna have themes like gmail?
- MrAction408, on 12/04/2008, -7/+52Too bright IMHO
- alphasti, on 12/05/2008, -2/+33Way too much white space. It's like blinding me. I liked the contrast of the blue on the left and white on the right. Can't we have a choice like gmail?
- Murdats, on 12/05/2008, -2/+31they have 1 theme thats the same as gmails
go to your reader page and enter the konami code

- kalidav, on 12/05/2008, -1/+20As soon as I saw the change I went for the settings to look for the "Themes" option. To my dissapointment, there was none. =\
- alanwarp, on 12/04/2008, -1/+17Don't mind the square, but the new subscriptions sidebar is too bold and bright, since I primarily use that for navigating between feeds...Hopefully themes are around the corner...
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 12/05/2008, -5/+19Is it really that hard to understand the different forms of "your"?
- mkameli, on 12/04/2008, -0/+14The placement of the "Add a subscription" button finally makes sense. I thought it was tough to find before.
- kaesea, on 12/05/2008, -1/+12I was finally forced to join Digg just so I could comment on this post...
I love Google Reader as though it was my first born and I am SO disappointed in this change. If I could have *one* thing back, could you not make the Unread Replies *quite* so bold and black? That's all I ever show and it's like Reader is SHOUTING at me now.
I agree with everyone who is saying it's "too bright." I think it is largely related to the super bold black text on the bright white background. Please give us the option to switch back or [and I shudder to mention this] themes. - franee, on 12/04/2008, -9/+17i want my old layout back
- teh_spazz, on 12/04/2008, -5/+13I love Google.
- jdandre, on 12/05/2008, -8/+15Wow - I may just be resistant to change, but I do not like this it all. Please give us the option to switch back.
- fuddes, on 12/05/2008, -6/+11The new design is ugly. They need to give people a choice instead of forcing this garbage on us.
- porkdanish, on 12/05/2008, -0/+5Tell that to my Giraffe
- tfogarty, on 12/04/2008, -9/+14Seems like a regression.
- MorDecai, on 12/05/2008, -2/+6I love reader, live in it every day for almost the entire day, however I find this new palette quite difficult to view. It seems like it just got harder to differentiate between whats read and whats unread. I depended on the color contrast to visually tell me that, now it's like I have to really stare at my list to figure out whats new and whats not. Please give us a darker option... on second thought, just give us themes like you did with gmail.
- Rowan187, on 12/05/2008, -1/+5This is epic. I've been really hoping for a redesign these past few days, and collapsible menus, and they showed up! Rock on, Google!
- inactive, on 12/05/2008, -2/+6I want to change the backgrounds to black
- laaabaseball, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4up up down down left right left right b a
Still works! - phlezk, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4The English is not working !!!!!
- garyholland, on 12/05/2008, -0/+4This new interface is just awful. I thought my browser hadn't refreshed properly and the page only half loaded. I restarted my internet connection only to find this is the "new look". I just honestly can't get over how bad it is. Probably 80% of my web time is using reader and now all I can focus on is that horrible black bold font with a white clashing background.
- GrandTim, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Definitely not a good idea to throw such a huge interface change without leaving us any choice.
I found the old colors easier for my eyes. Now I have to get used to the new ones.
Or.. should I go use another reader out there ? - TMTurtle, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3select start
- SLYK, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3I wish they friggin did this for iGoogle.
- djrich4, on 12/04/2008, -7/+10lame. the same microsoft-type designers that came up with the failed mountain scene login page worked on this one for sure. square is fine, color is mediocre, and shrink the text back to the smaller size so our subscription bar isn't huge! i feel like i'm back on to MSDOS using this thing. square might be the new round if your a code writer, but not if you're a designer. less is not always more. yuck.
- bjs3171, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3why, in Gmail, when I click "add contacts" does it bring up an "invite people to gmail" window, instead of an "add contacts" window? I feel like I'm clicking on some deceptive pop-up ad every time i forget and click on it.
- dwninjungleland, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3The existence of Bratz was one of the prime examples of the downfall of western civilization. I'm glad we're done with that.
- mason55, on 12/05/2008, -2/+5iPhone interface is horribly broken, the lines don't wrap any more. Basically unusable.
- wenomspitta, on 12/05/2008, -1/+4reader on iPhone is broken!
- noahtron, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3i'm sure it's coming... along with user-created themes for gmail AND reader, as in iGoogle.
- Pradeek, on 12/05/2008, -0/+3Ok... Where the hell is my refresh button???
- paulabear, on 12/05/2008, -9/+12Ugh I don't like it. :(
- Lamnk, on 12/05/2008, -6/+9Man i want the old layout back, this one is really ugly
- chlorinekid, on 12/04/2008, -10/+12looks good to me, much cleaner design.
- jeff1943, on 12/05/2008, -1/+3You can now hide the unread count but the unread count still shows in the title. How the heck does that help?
- Postoasted, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2alanwarp, I totally agree with you. As soon as skins some out I'm changing it out.
- NicoNicoNico, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2I happen to like my tree, thanks.
- maxmccabe, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2There is a button you know.
You don't have to tell us all.. - cmsjustin, on 12/05/2008, -1/+3Wahhh it's different
- justcherie, on 12/05/2008, -1/+3Does the font in the subscriptions list really need to be so huge and bold? I would love to be able to set that font to the same as the other sections. Right now, I don't see nearly as many of my updated feeds as I used to. It's very distracting!
- justcherie, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2I completely agree, I don't like that the font in that section is so much larger than all the others!
- 500miles, on 12/05/2008, -1/+3A lot less clutter and less colour, I approve.
- rilo, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2I don't like the new layout at all, in list views the line spacing has become bigger, I accidentally clicked away the left pane at some point and it took me a while to figure out where it went. I wish they have an option to keep the old layout.
- cpmcpm72, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2This update makes post hard to read on the iPhone - posts don't fit on the screen, paragraphs go from left to right without wrapping. Sure I can scroll right, but what a pain. Will there be a fix for this? I would hate to have to go back to bloglines - I was loving reader.
- JNudda, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2It's still there.
- Archaic1, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2You mean the scroll bars? That's the Safari web browser
- vat0r, on 12/05/2008, -2/+4It is free...
- Archaic1, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2Are you sure you don't have the before and after screenshots mixed up? The new one is (disappointingly?) much, much duller.
- LilRabbitFooFoo, on 12/05/2008, -0/+2So Google is the ONLY company on Earth that is making their applications look flatter and duller?
Gtalk looks like ***** and now this does too. Some of us are working with layers upon layers of transparency and glass over multi-monitor animated desktops and you guys are shooting to relive the 80s? Puh-lease... -
