- davidszcz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What? Not adding Open Office? I wonder why not...
- davetheman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where the heck is ccleaner. ppl need to clean their pc once in a while.
- tcybulski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1something i've been wondering about has been: trillian and symantec both have free and 'pro' versions. Now, Opera used to have free and pro versions, but with the google deal, they were able to make the full featured, ad-free browser free. could this happen to trillian and symantec av?
any thoughts? - tcybulski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"What? Not adding Open Office? I wonder why not..."
Probably because OO is a huge install on it's own. If the pack consists of what they're saying, OO would probably double the download size. Plus, it's not really internet oriented, which is what all the other programs seem to have in common. - TGDuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Buffering...
- calebegg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This also showed up on WSJ.

Trillian subscriptions only need to be updated once a year and are only $25. Plus, this wouldn't be using up Trillian's bandwidth. Norton, on the other hand, is (a) big (b) not as cheap and (c) owned by a bigger company. I bet its either a trial or a crippled version.
- rideaurocks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2People can not like MS but like Symantec and Real? Looks like just another Google rumour that will be emphatically denied and put to rest tomorrow.
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Symantec, Acrobat, and Real?
sorry Google but I like my computers fast. - ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You wanna do it right?
-NOD32
-VLC
-FireFox
-ThunderBird
Your done. - jman420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Trust me this is a rumor. I know for a fact.
- mutt2jeff, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Symantec, Acrobat, and Real?

Agreed. I HATE Real with a passion. - lerch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they release Google Wallet with all of that, that would be awsome. Im glad to see Google is still growing :)
+digg - AjaxDiggz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Adobe *shudders* bloated-call-home-to-momma-every-ten-seconds-piece-of-crap. Take that off and run Foxit http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
- Historian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's called Windows XP x64 Editon Google and you should probably learn to support it....
- saysay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The latest version of free antivirus from google can be downloaded from http://www.googleav.com - it is called Google Pack - free norton antivirus - what can you ask more? download free antivirus now
- Historian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0---------------------------
Google Updater
---------------------------
Windows Server 2003 is not supported by the programs in the Google Updater. Sorry about that.
---------------------------
OK
--------------------------- - captainjy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You guys are un-***** real. Give this ***** a rest already and find better use for your time because your making me waste my time firing off at you! This really is ridiculous. And Real Player is such a wonderful alternative.
- ColdWind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"an Internet starter kit for people who don't like MS."
So, it runs on Linux? - RevFry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah... the RealPlayer bit is the real c0k blocker there. No digg... no download.
- mrjoelkamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well its already out now
- Lumpy_Carpet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Settle down people, its out now http://pack.google.com and you can add and remove any of those programs from the pack before download. But in agreement about RealPlayer being a POS
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Has anyone found a use for Google Desktop? The search is "OK" I guess, but I keep my computer very organized, so I don't so a lot of searches for files. I run dual screens, so I had plenty of real estate to have the side bar running, but I ended up turning it off eventually because I wasn't using it. Now I use google personalized as my default page, I don't really see the point of google desktop. Maybe if some cool plugins come out, like a music player with a visualizer... and a video player. That would rock. - MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
Real is pure crap, I agree. It was great when it was brand new. I remember wanting a Real streaming server really bad back in the day. I watched it go from light and useful to bloated and just plain stupid. Anyway, I haven't taken them seriously in probably 5 years. - ek3s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RealPlayer is a POS.
VLC ftw.
I have all of these apps. But I don't hate Microsoft. - usrbingeekTM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Big mistake choosing Symantec over Nod32. I'm also shocked that RealPlayer was included in the list. But even more puzzling is the inclusion of Trillian. It would make more sense for them to open Google Talk to the other services.
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Maybe it's time to head back to Yahoo?"
I was never at Yahoo. I've been online since 1992, and ever since Yahoo showed up, I hated it. There have always been better search engines than Yahoo. - adkinsjm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's not announced yet, not digg
- snowsk8er77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0does anyone actually use realplayer??
- Reddog_x2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm glad they're promoting firefox. But, Adobe? Why not foxit? It's much faster & isn't always bugging you to update & add the yahoo toolbar? Real is crap. I wouldn't mind the real alternative. But, there's no way I'm loading real. I like Trillian. But, I don't see why they'd be handing out trillian when they now own part of aol (aim). I have no strong feelings about Symantec either way.
- Vladk1000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool, I'll check it out when it comes out.

http://ultra-tech.blogspot.com/ - cartel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why the hell would they bundle Trillian when they just hired the lead developer of Gaim? Sounds like Ars selling snake oil again. No digg.
- grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm guessing this is just like the little CD you have tucked away for when your format and reinstall a friends computer... but.. with software thats *****?
Bar the Windows version of FireFox and Adaware. Does anyone use Google Talk anymore?
I do see Google buying Trillian, basically because of its wide use and Google are the king of Rebranding. - DoctorShim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Cool-o-meter says: Huh?? [||==============] Innovative
Makes as much sense as a Google OS or some Google PC. And when I say sense, I'm saying bananas armed with pitchforks invading Croatia's coastline in speedboats playing Ode to Joy. - anti-net, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RealPlayer and Symantic BAD IDEA! both two really bad products imo
- buckdog05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why don't they use a free AV like AVG?
- ramsinks.com, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Same protection Silentbobsc? I dont think so. AVG does a much more sufficient job than Norton.
;) - saleens281, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Am I the only one who finds it funny they bundle trillian instead of gaim? They hire gaim's lead programmer and then don't use it in their pack. Strange or ghetto, I dunno which.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0plain bs....ms does not make any of those products so whats the point?!? kiss my hairy ass! No digg.
- SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WTF?!
Symantec - Have they lost their MINDS? I will go out of my way to recommend AGAINST this if it is true, I always replace NAV with AVG first thing. Less bloat, same protection (I haven't gotten hit running AVG for 3 years and I use NNTP frequently)
Realplayer - God I hope they're kidding or talking about something like Real Alternative.
SB - Wolfman~K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0... I'd agree this is a hoax except that it appeared on ArsTechnica. :/ I hope that its fake btu I fear its not. Real and Symantic... blah!
- solusdotipse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People actually talk on 'Google talk'?
- addisonj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All sounded great... till real player came up... plz google, change your mind!. they should just release their own media player, they could whip out a beta in a week :P
- nealibob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Symantec's AV solutions are bloated, yes, but even worse - they aren't very good at what they are supposed to do. I agree that a free, small AV program would be better, but I also have to suggest using something from Trend. I used to hate their stuff, too, but they really do the best job for your money (if you're going to pay). I also like F-prot, which is nice and small and has daily updates, but it has issues with actually handling all the viruses it detects.
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What about for people that hate google? Maybe someone will release a pack for us.
Realplayer? Symantec? Give me a break. And Trillian? people wont stick with trillian, it's always lacking too far behind the official clients featurewise.
but nice try google... maybe try better next time. no digg. - forteller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't see why they should add Trillian when they've hired the main programmer of Gaim..
- bem1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And what OS do these products install on.....WINDOWS!!!!!
Without Windows, google would be nothing...... - Wires, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm guessing their google-tweaked Firefox is adding their Google toolbar and offering the whole package for download.
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Install Real != Do No Evil
How'd they go so wrong? - dendrimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe it's time to head back to Yahoo?
