- stabmyface, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1079F and clear baby
- Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Nice. I use google when cooking so my measurements are correct with my metric measuring cups. Try this in google - 10 cups in milliliters.
- thomasknowland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9try this one,
Text something to 466453 (G-O-O-G-L-E).
Try "NEW YORK WEATHER" or anywhere really. Try different things. I use it for sports scores sometimes.
Post what you come up with. - jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14tsk tsk.. don't bad mouth google, the pixies will get you! (mod you down)
- shizitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+61 furlong per fortnights = 0.000166309524 m / s
thanks google, i always forget that one. - sugardaddy4242, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Hold the phone....
Internet explorer beat Firefox and Opera? Opera came out with features years ago that Explorer is just now going to put in IE7. Internet Explorer doesn't beat anyone when it comes to the browser wars. - ThePharaoh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Ok, so MSN hooks in with Encarta Encyclopedia...Google still rocks...
- jtjdt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If you search for "South Africa Time" Google will give you the current time in South Africa.
- 3monkeys, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Perhaps of more interest to readers the recent TByte storage system is:
google: " 1 terabyte in megabyte"
1 terabyte = 1 048 576 megabyte - Lynx1234567890, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Microsoft uses any profitable idea to make money weather they come up with the idea or not.
For example:
• MS-DOS beat CP/M-80, DR-DOS
• Windows beat Mac OS, GEM, OS/2, Desqview, etc.
• Word beat WordPerfect, Wordstar, Wordpro
• Excel beat 123, Quattro
• Access beat dBase, Paradox, Approach
• Outlook beat Eudora, ACT
• PowerPoint beat Harvard Graphics
• Encarta beat Compton's
• Exchange beat Notes
• FrontPage beat Composer
• Visual Basic beat Power Basic, Turbo Basic
• Visual C beat Borland C, Lightspeed C, etc.
• MS-Publisher beat Ventura
• Internet Explorer beat Netscape, Opera, Mozilla
• Visio has no real competition
• Win-CE beat Palm
• WMP beat RealPlayer
Who cares who did it first. What matters is who made it more popular and made more money. Money is the key. - pacdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Also, you can use 46645 (G-O-O-G-L) if the 6-digit code doesn't work.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Microsoft did indeed do it first. Here's a press release from Feb. 2005. http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2005/feb05/02-01newenginepr.mspx
But that doesn't matter! I never said that Google copied or that Google's version sucks! I just said that MSN did it first, but more importantly MSN's does more. It solves algebraic equations for crying out loud!
I%u2019m not a Microsoft fanboy. Fanboys are pointless. Honestly, I even said that Google was a great search engine. - Xiol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4In the UK you can do the same thing but texting to 64664. (6GOOG)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Sweet and
Google beat/is beating/will continue to beat Windows Live Search - Moskie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41 (light year per fortnight) = 1 407 704.11 leagues per second
- jinushaun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is a great resource.
I've always wondered what the complete list of google keywords/features were. I only recently found out that it supported currency conversion. (A feature I've been looking for for years, but not documented so didn't knowit existed) - JJ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The conversion tools rock, I feel like such a google nub after reading this. Excellent Digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I knew about some of the tools, like the conversion, but it's nice to see a full list.
- thebrokenlight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I thought mebibyte was MiB, kibibyte KiB, etc...
- rolandog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hmm, Google and MSN search are equally smart:
http://www.google.com/search?q=the answer to life the universe and everything
http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=the answer to life the universe and everything&FORM=QBRE - mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It is legal because they say in the footnotes "1 gigabyte = 1 000 000 000 bytes"
What kills me more is the now 10 gigs you loose due to formatting. - tadeu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3And what about 10^290 light years in picometers ?? Nice answer for that =)
- fatas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2^ When I searched "Windows Vista Time" its said 4th Feb 2008 10:00AM
- Moskie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is a pretty handy list. I think I'll print this out and post it next to my desk, as a matter of fact...
- GrahamStw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or just go to http://xe.com/
- sahala, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@Jugalator
You can find out times in other time zones by entering it in as a search query. Example: "time in lebanon"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=time+in+lebanon&btnG=Search - llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Someday Linux will beat Windows and all your crapware listed that MS stole and made popular.
- skezo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google is even smarter than that list suggests.
For example, type a movie title followed by a city/zip code to get local movie times---no colons or comas needed. (e.g., nacho libre seattle) - paerez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like searching for "5 hands in feet" and "e!!" :-D
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4My favorite is "10 light years in nanometers"
- yottabite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2MS Money Weather - the next wave of the future? Maybe watch typos - that was a good one.
And actually, I for one don't think money is all that matters. I can think of countless examples of best-selling software that has horrid UI, but that has a free alternative with a good UI, or simply a cheaper product that performs better.
Basically - I disagree wholeheartedly that money is the key - I won't even touch on Linux. - massimo83, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2wow, money convertion was just what i need! thanks
- Ender0910, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There's another one I don't think is mentioned in the article...
search something with "recipe" in it.
i.e. "Recipe Pork"
It will give you some recipe searching help. - Jugalator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It can do a lot more than that though, here's a guide to some of the stuff:
http://www.googleguide.com/calculator.html
It can among other things also do currency conversions these days. Hopefully time zones in the future. :-) - m0dded, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2also, itunes is beating wmp and realplayer combined
- vampirechicken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Too bad it can calculate the ratio of donuts to dollars.
It does know about furlongs per fortnight. - sremick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You should check out the Exch plugin for Firefox then. I used it all the time:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1747/ - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a pony that can also count!
- davidfg4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://soople.com/ has all the google search tricks on it.
- nonchallant0819, on 03/27/2008, -0/+0This is a great story... found this one through http://www.google.com

gave different results. - statix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2@jehiv: its not legal. this was one of the things that annoyed me like crazy. now western digital is getting sued and they are offering free backup software to anyone that purchased thier harddrive between a certain time frame. and now i beleive they will be listing the exact details. so go with western digital.
i hope other companies catch on as well. try searching around u will find news on this - Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Awesome. Now I can find more recipes for my collection.

- gobibm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Agree, money is the key for the corporations like MS, Google etc., Otherwise they can not sell their stocks. Do we buy if they don't make money?
- LiquidLithium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Its about 1 centimeter every 10 seconds. Not horribly slow, you could notice it moving.
- leobaby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2you should take a look at this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilobyte
when windows explorer says a file is 10 kilobytes, hard drive manufacturers argue it should be read as 10 kibibytes.
MB = Megabyte, mb = mebibyte
those ***** should be strung up by their balls if you ask me.. -
